Hi everybody!

I have three BO's in my flock. I was wondering will be the first time one of them goes broody? I know they are way to young right now, though. (Only about 14 weeks.)

Thanks!

Depending upon the strain some or all may never go broody. Hatchery sourced birds are less likely to go broody than breeder sourced. Generally broody inclined birds don't become broody until perhaps a couple months into their laying cycle. Good luck if you are wanting a broody.

Mine went broody at 8 months old or so BUT we have no rooster and had just brought home baby chicks the week before. I swear the chicks triggered her :gigI do wonder if we'd had a rooster if she wouldn't have done it sooner. Her flockmates are two Barred Rock (same age) and neither of them has gone broody yet.

Thank you both!

@sourland, I am really hoping not to get any broody hens!

You never say this out loud! Just for that one of yours will go broody the second she's six months old- it's like saying bloody Mary in the mirror, I swear! :lau

:fl For a broody free summer and fall for you!(Although the noises they make and the walking around like a fluffy clucking pancake are almost worth the inconvenience of broody breaking!):gig
