When you hear the phrase “chicken salad” this IS the first thing that comes to mind, right?

Actually, it is. My dad makes a big salad with all different lettuces and herbs and seasonings every morning for my 60+ chickens.

Love it! Mine wasn’t terribly elaborate, I was prepping collards to stuff for dinner and badly mangled one so this salad is just one collard leaf torn up with the central rib peeled into gossamer thin shreds with a vegetable peeler, no dressing or other textural elements

Ooh, do your birds have a favorite salad? (As if they’re ever that discriminating... you know what I mean🤣)
Mostly the ends of the Romaine Lettuce stalk and Celery Stalk, usually some pepper pieces, the heart of the lettuce or a half of cabbage and any leftover things from our garden like squash, cucumbers, okra pieces, basil, lots of basil and whatever else.

We compost for our garden so we keep a couple of buckets in the kitchen for veggie scraps and split between the compost pile and the chickens!

Nice. I like this idea. I've made up a few bowls of exciting treats like shredded zucchini, finely minced pear, blueberries and usually their regular feed mixed in with some yogurt, unsweetened apple sauce or plain water, but I like the idea of making them snacks of vegetable trimmings like what you're doing, too.
