Okay I may be just super excited and anxious but I ordered baby chicks from a hatchery and they're due to be at the post office. They left Charleston wv at 5 am and it's a 3 hour drive to me in wheeling wv. It is now 1120! What's the latest y'all have got your call that your chicks have arrived? I mean I'm spazzing because I know my babies are prob thirsty!

Have you called the post office to ask if they have arrived? They would have details for you on if they have arrived AND when the trucks arrive/unload at the post office for the day.

I am expecting our chicks the first week of May and have already talked to our post master once and will do it again the day they ship. During our first conversation I asked what time to expect them as the trucks have a regular delievery time, she was able to tell me it would be before they opened (6am) and she would call me as soon as they arrive.
I have heard the tracking isn't always reliable.

Best of luck,
Joy

Just make sure you have everything ready, the right temperature in the brooder, some electrolytes in their water will boost their strength and chance to recover faster. If you don't have them already, you can burn some of that excitement energy on finding some! ;) If you have any more questions about the brooder box/bin feel free to ask. I feel as if I ask too many but nobody's yelled at me yet. :idunno

Absolutely....I always set the brooder up, MHP included, at least 24hours before chicks are expected. Tjis allows time to identify and correct any problems such as if the mhp were not working(I store the pad between broods so it is months between tones it's plugged in and asked to do it's job, things happen)....rather than scrambling while also dealing with a box of cold, hungry and thirsty chicks. Having it all ready allows me to only worry about taking each chick out, doing a quick once over, showing water and feed and then introducing it too the MHP.

Thanks for the tips. I've been playing around with the brooder all day even made a trip to tsc lol
