Where did they come from???

I'm waiting impatiently for my duck to hatch her egg. Should be due any day now! I have a broody hen with 2 babies and 2 broody turkeys sharing a baby lol

I only candled my ducks eggs a couple of times (yes, it killed me to refrain! Lol) so I knew they were on decent track, but I expected them to hatch last Wednesday/Thursday. The first one didn't hatch until Saturday. I think the cold weather delayed them a bit. Plus she spent an hour or so each evening off the nest, and who knows how long during the days.

Told you I would post the photos the silky are less than a year old they have a extra toe so they are entrusted to me for a life of luxury but no babies of their own I picked up 2 peeps at our local feed store 1 marans and one creme legbar pullet I am beginning to think I might have lucked out on the Marans and it is pullet

How many eggs was she on? She will stay at least a couple days, or until the last egg hatches, or until she knows it isn't going to hatch.

I sure hope today was our last cold day!!
My momma duck hatched 12 of her ducklings over the weekend, then it got COLD again. Stupid weather.

She has 6 eggs under her. Well, she started with 7....but I had that mishap with the one.

Today was actually the due date for eggies 1, 2 and 3. Number 2 was on the shell she pushed out yesterday.

I took out that eggshell...was that okay? I didn't want her eating it and taking a fancy to eating eggs.

I take out the eggshells to make room.
The egg eating isn't an issue from cleaning up broken eggs. It's usually from a protein or calcium deficiency

So....a little kink in my pre-planning in regards to feeding and watering the babies. The bf's dad dropped off what I thought were chick waterer and feeder. Turns out they were both waterers! So...I just filled the bottom portion of the one with feed until tomorrow when I can get to Ag Store.

I have the end nest box set up as a feeding station. The area partitioned off with chicken wire. Hope all goes well! Everyone slept peacefully last night in the new arrangement . We shall see if the other ladies are cool with using the unfavorable nest box though...or if I have to go on an egg hunt.

Okay, sounds good. I feed them 20% protein / 1.3% calcium crumbles with oyster shells in a separate feeder. I put probiotics, electrolytes and vitamins in their water. Plus I share my lunches with them.

I only saw the one egg shell so far...
