Where did they come from???

Tomorrow they will be a week old. I was thinking of trying this new venture this Saturday as I have the whole day to be with them.

I want some opinions on my set-up.

Should I add a chute type thing at the top of my ramp...as the ramp is narrower than the opening.

Is my run fencing any concern with the larger holes of the chain link on the inside with hardware cloth on the outside.

They all co-mingle with fence divider in the upstairs where nest boxes and roosts are...but none of the others bother with the babies. They act like they aren't even there. King, once in a while comes up and takes a look around, but then just heads back downstairs.

Here are pics to help with my concerns ...

The temp wall upstairs. Had to add cardboard to the open area above nest box because my back-riding jumper ended up exploring the other side using Momma's back as a stepping stone. :barnie

Wood in the gate gaps...hardware cloth will be returned to center part of gate.

Uggghhhh....back-jumpers = roosters???? I have 3 that sit up there!!!!:th

Its not a definite thing! :lau

If you are going to be with them Saturday, I think you (and they) will find any weaknesses in your setup. It looks great to me, but in my experience, they seem to ignore the things I expect to be problems and find ones that I never would have suspected. So I'm not much help in that area. :p

yep
Do not name those 3 until you know for sure.... unless you are going to build a bachelor pad for them

they find very inventive ways to commit suicide ... had one that tried repeatedly in the thanksgiving hatch
1st he tried to join another broody hens batch that was a month older
2nd found him limp in the run and cold, gapsted when I picked him up and stuck him in my shirt.
3rd found hanging tangled in moms breast feathers and she was frantically looking for him as he swung like a pendulum.. she could hear him but not see him.
4th found him all bloody, don't know what happened there.
5th and final he climbed up a loose roll of chicken wire and got his wings stuck, I was too late save him that time.

Oh dear Lord! I'm not sure I'm ready for all this worry!!!! I hope the back-riding trio aren't all roosters... :hit
