Which breed should I go with?

Australorps. Broody, but not the extreme, so you will still get a decent amount of eggs. Gentle and easy to handle. I can stick my hands under my Aussie broodies without fear of being pecked. And they do well in both heat and cold.

Bantam Cochins or Japanese. So friendly, sweet, easy to handle, motherly, and you can have a few extra because they are small! My Jap roosters are my absolute favorites, I spend a lot of time with them.

Hello! I have been on BYC since earlier this year, and have had chickens for about three years. I have a blended flock and I have learned that this just isnt for me. I want to get one breed of chickens to raise and keep. I know alot about every breed bit I think it is best to get advice from people who have had them.

Here are some of the things I want in a breed.

1. Friendliness. I want a docile breed I can hold and carry and transport easily.

2. Broody. This is very inportant as I want a breed that will readily brood eggs. Since an incubator is pretty high.

3. Gentle roosters. I want my roosters to not be aggresive toward me.

4. Do good confined and moderate temperatures. (Cold in the winter hot in the summer.

Thanks for any advice!

Dutch bantams would be good for your purposes, if you want to have bantams. They are known to be docile and the roosters are not agressive. From my expirience, they do well in confinement, and lay better than most bantams. I have heard that they go broody easily, and are good mothers.

Cochins or Buffs. They are both docile, though bantam Cochin make good cuddle buddies because they are smaller! Really I feel like roosters are mostly luck of the draw on temperament plus making sure they know YOU are the top rooster from day one, even if you are a sweet top rooster! Except Rhode Island Red Roosters. 90% of the time they are HORRIBLE MEAN JERKS! :rant
