White quail

Seems to be a lot of discussion over these white birds! I am going to hatch some as I sell a few of my quail. Thing is, I for certain do not want to mislead anyone about what they are that would be bad business! So I will need to figure out what I have or just advertise them as "White" quail. The person who gave them to me called them white coturnix?

Coturnix is the breed. Everything else is just a color variation.
Some have been given specialized names (a&m, meatmaker) as they gave been bred to meet a certain criteria for color, weight, etc.

But rosetta, pharoah, tuxedo, Italian, golden. Are all coturnix just different colors. So if you advertised white coturnix all would be good.

I know crossing rosetta to a&m will get you tuxedos. Best cross I had for body size and weight was meatmakers to italians.

The cross of whites to jumbos would probably yield a white base bird with brown patches and highlights.

If it's a white coturnix but not from the"Texas A&M" strain, then it's an English White, which is a color mutation of the coturnix just like the silver, Tibetan, tuxedo, etc. The Texas A&M were bred using the English White for coloring and the traditional jumbos for size, they were trying to make a larger quail with white skin to try and get a good table bird for commercial production.

Ok knowing that then breeding g these to my jumbos should result the same? That said, do I breed the hens to a jumbo roo, or the jumbo females to the white roo?

Not sure. I'm still learning about breeding them, don't know for certain what would be best. I think there's a thread about this already though, trying to get larger white birds. Maybe breed the white male to the largest jumbo females and the white females to the largest jumbo male, then pick the best from that generation to breed to each other? I think I was able to post the link below.

Ok so if I cross my Texas A&M to my Jumbo Browns am I going to get a tux? Cause that’s what I have and I would like to get some tux... searching brings up all sorts of answers LOL

But seems like it would be a yes, and also a mix of whites and browns and things lol
