Who else got chick fever this year?!!!

@Callender Girl so I am not as strong as I thought I was. I am getting 5 chicks and now more eggs to hatch since we had a surprise day of no electricity that killed off 15 eggs from my 21 which go on lockdown next week! So yeah I’m weak. Three silkie and two adorable naked neck/Bielefelder mix chicks. I go pick them up tomorrow. I am already squealing on the inside.

The Bielefelder babies are from this really sweet lady three hours away ( @BlueBaby ) and I met the chicken parents two weeks ago which are so gentle and healthy! Unlike buying from a hatchery, I can meet the parents first hahah.

It's been a non stop acquisition of chickens since last September. Next shipment is arriving about May 25th. Originally it was just 25 Ancona pullets with 5 additional Roos. Then the math kicked in and now on the same day I'll have some Red laced Cornish Roos, Some white leghorn roos, and New Hampshire roos to breed with Rhode Island White pullets arriving in July. To you think my wife will notice those additional boys? She knew about the date but never mentioned the additional boys. Then there are Welsummers coming in September and 25 more RIR pullets coming in October that I failed to mention. :)
She will never notice all them babies! I didn’t tell the people in my house about the extra chicks until the day before going and picking them up! Which we go tomorrow 😂🤣😂🤣

Sometimes, @NuggetMama, strength is overrated! Enjoy those babies!!
Hahaha it is! I am so dang excited!
Also, sorry about the loss of the eggs ☹️.
It sucked! I thought we had them in a warm enough environment but it turned out too warm in the end. Hopefully I can buy more hatching eggs and make a nice big flock that I can raise as pets and food. As much as I would rather keep them as pets, food is getting too expensive and to feed a houseful of 6-8 people depending on if someone is kicked out their family’s house for a bit… we need a way to get food without breaking the bank for it.

But the 2 mixed chicks hatched from my next-door neighbors egg's from his naked neck hens with my bielefelder rooster over them. My neighbor loves my rooster and borrows Hawkeye.

Yes! Except for my three Bielefelder eggs with will be on lockdown next week! I am hoping we get some hens from them and not all roos hahahah. Let’s see what Lady Luck decides!

The first TSC we went to had Swedish ducklings and another breed on clearance for $1 each, we would love some ducks but aren't set up for them and managed to both be responsible adults and leave without buying any, thankfully!

I have to stop myself from ducklings. They're at our family farm and home and they're so cute. We don't have a place for them on our property or I'd be in trouble. 🤣

My boyfriend asked where my seabright mixes came from. I pointed to the parents and it took him a second to realize they don't need to be under mama to hatch 🤣. He hadn't had caffeine in his defense. I'm looking into a new incubator by the fall to create my own bantam army. If anyone has any silkie breeding tips they'd be welcomed.

This is my first time with silkies, so I don't have any breeding tips, but if any of my 4 are roos they will be looking for a new coop. 😆

What if all 4 are roos 😳 Odds of 4 out of 4 are small right? I should have at least 1 or 2 pullets? And I still don't know if the 5 SLWs I bought had pullet or straight run on the tag. Chick fever blinded me 🤣🤣🤣
