and happy chickening!

Chillicothe, Ohio only had two kinds of chicks in this AM, all straight run. They had Buff Orpingtons and Cornish Rocks. They also had st run ducks, not sure what kind they were, well cute if that is a kind.

I mainly only want EEs unless I am sure of their gender. I did think about heading up to the Circleville store just a bit further than the one I did stop in at, but will wait to later in the week or next week. They will be getting new chicks in all the time now.

Giving me the fever to hatch some of my own.

If and when you check back in with them, ask where they get their chicks, especially those Araucanas. If she/they say Mt Healthy hatcheries, what they really are is Easter Eggers, not Araucanas or Ameraucanas, as that is all they really are and most people would not realize the difference. EE's will be all different colors and shapes for that matter. I got nine from Mt healthy last year. We ordered eight 4 males and 4 females. The males were all different and so were the females. We got 5 males and 4 females. Two of the females lay a blue, blue/green eggs, one of the females lays a pink egg, but hasn't laid in a while and the other lays a cream colored egg. That pretty well defines them as EEs not true Araucanas or Ameraucanas. True Araucanas lay blue eggs along with other physical requirements that identify them to a certain standard for features, colors, etc. Maybe your TSC got them from a breeder that sells only true Araucana chickens, which is possible, but if they came from Mt Healthy and they haven't changed their breeding stock, they are really just EEs. Which, is fine as far as I'm concerned, as that is what I wanted, if I was to buy that way at all,

One of the TSC's here is supposed to get their chicks in tomorrow. I'm hoping for EE pullets. I have 3 beautiful silkie roo's, but they don't have the correct combs for breeding. :-( I love my boys so I'm just gonna get them some girls instead lol They can have their own pen. I'll get colored eggs for selling, they'll get girlfriends! Its win-win, right?

If we lived closer, I'd offer to split and order of pullets with you, but min order size is 15 and I'm not sure I can handle that many new birds to my flock this year.
