Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

My Golden Comets and Leghorns are 19 weeks now. My other flock of BR, partridge BR and buff brahma are 15 weeks, but looking good! I have 3 girls that are looking promising out of the first group -- so excited! Happy waiting everyone!

My chickens are 18 weeks old and no eggs yet. Guess they will lay when they get ready! I can't wait!

I don't know about the heat - mine started laying in the middle a heat spell where temps were in the 85 to 92 range for about 5 days. But our heat spells here don't last long and I don't think we get the high heat indexes because New Mexico is very low humidity.

No! Oh, I sounded like a very bad mama hen!! No, they are on grower, I thought the layer feed had too much calcium till they started laying.

In addition to the feed, they get the "chicken snacks" that they are crazy for and all the grass they want...probably bugs, too. I have been giving them egg shells in their chicken snacks from time to time for calcium just in case.

I only have one RIR that is laying daily...and another one of my new ones lays sporadically.

I recently bought 5 new chickens on Saturday (3 barred rocks and 2 leghorns)...the lady said that they were laying and that they are around 6 months old, with one of the leghorns being 1 year old...but I have they haven't really been laying for me at all??? Even my RIR's, which I have had for about 6 weeks now (the guy didn't tell me how old they were when I got them)...only 1 of them has been laying eggs for me.

Any ideas? I feed them layer feed, with some cracked corn, some table scraps here and there, weeds when I pull them from the garden, and anything else they might pick up scratching during the day. I read elsewhere that they should still have oyster shell even though they are on layer feed...so I am going to pick up some oyster shell tomorrow and some BOSS (I just read about BOSS today and I can't wait to see how they like it!).

I am in Northeast PA...it has been humid with temps in the high 80s to low 90s.

Got 6 hens, a Brahma, Dominique, Buff Orpington, SL Wyandotte and two Sebrights. The Dominique and the Brahma are 21 weeks and still nothing........

The Sebrights are 16 weeks and the other two are only 12 weeks. Hopefully any day now for the two oldest. It has been a blast raising them all from chicks. Sadly we had three chicks grow in to roosters which we had to get rid of, but our two girls absolutely love our chickens. Every morning they wake up and run out to the coop to see if we have gotten eggs yet....

I have a talk with my Finagan daily. I got her on April 1st. April fools. She looked full grown at the time but still no eggs. I think she is an EE. For a while I thought she might be a roo, hence the name Finagan but I think she is a hen. So when is she going to lay? I feel for all of you. It's hard to wait.

My 3 are now 19 and 20 weeks old . . . still no eggs. The one that had some catch-up to do has done so, quite quickly -- literally overnight she grew comb and wattles, and the next 24 hours saw them turn red -- and now all 3 pullets seem ready.

They've all gotten a lot more restless, more vocal, and today when I went to check on them I saw that they've made themselves a shallow hole in the ground in their run under the ramp, probably a dust-bathing spot, but it looks suspiciously like a nest to me!

I was hoping for eggs during the month of July, and I suppose they could still surprise me. My birthday is at the end of August, and I would sure like to be getting eggs for a birthday present!

2 of the hens were born in the first few days of March, 1 was born a bit afterwards, at least, that's what it looks like to me.

Keep your fingers crossed! I went out to check on a big kerfuffle in the back yard, my buff orpington was singing the egg song at the top of her lungs, but the cinnamon queen was camped out in the nest box. I think the buff may even have done the egg squat, but I'm not sure. She could've just been pooping. I'm trying very hard not to go out and stare at little Frida in her nest.
