Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

16 weeks old now on mine. The Dominiques are starting to get larger combs and more red in their faces and wattles. The Red Stars are still pretty pale. No sign of anything on the WC Polish, but, really, with that wild hair do of hers, how can you tell?!? LOL No sign of sqautting yet. Heck, even the WC Polish rooster has not shown any real interest in any of the hens yet! I know, I know- they are young yet. But I. Hate. Waiting.

I am starting to think that eggs are a myth at my house. I have the 10 big chickens and out of them 5 turned into roosters (my friend was picking all the pretty ones) and one that I swear is not a rooster but still might be- tail feathers are not as long nor are the wattles or the comb but the other girls really don't have the comb or wattles- mixed thoughts on that one. Anyway which leaves the last 4. I have looked around each morning for a month thinking they have got to be close and have come out with NOTHING.

I am losing at this impossible wait game!!! As for how old they are- I got them in June and thought they were between 8-10 weeks old at the time. So they should be 21 weeks or they could be 19 weeks. Roosters have been crowing the whole month of August!

17 weeks and one day. Someone really dug around in the nest box today! I don't know who it was. I've never seen any of them enter the nest box, and usually there is barely a sign a chicken has been in there, - just a stray feather. But today, it looks like they were using earth-moving equipment! I'm hoping that's a sign that they are getting serious about this egg laying. One Welsummer is very, very red, most of the others, just a little red.

Back to waiting....

I got two tiny pullet eggs in a row, then a shell-less normal size egg. No shell at all - was even still warm when I picked it up. She's got layer feed and oyster shell. Just a glitch in the early works?

I don't post much because I really don't have anything exciting to say since my hens are only 17 weeks.

But tonight, when it was time to put them to bed, I went in to close the coop and two of them BOWED DOWN TO ME. Yes, they squatted. So from what I have read on the other posts, squatting is a sign that I may have eggs soon. I am sooooooo excited because as the rest of you know, waiting stinks!!!!!!!

The two that seem ready are my golden comets. Wooo Hoooo!!!!

Featherz, I've got one that has laid two cracked ones, plus a membrane with no shell and this morning a broken egg with a tissue thin shell on the poop board this morning. She has the same feed and oyster shell as the other. But she is also the smallest. So, I am assuming glitch and hoping that's the case!

Littletonchicks: Whoo hoo! It's getting exciting now
