Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

How old are your chickens now, chickenprincess? I'm still waiting, but mine are only 17 weeks (and 2 days).

I must admit, I get a little discouraged when I read all the posts by people whose chickens are 20 - 24 weeks and beyond, that haven't seen a single egg.

I guess I'll be waiting for a while. I'm starting to run low on regular feed. I have a bag of layer feed that I'm trying to wait on. Perhaps if I go buy a huge bag of grower feed, the eggs will start.

I have Rhode Island Reds, New Hampshire Reds, Buff Orps, 1 Blk Sex link and Barred Plymouth Rocks. My oldest are 20 wks this Friday, middles will be 17 wks, and the youngest are going on 16 wks. I think this first egg is from the Blk Sex Link that was pacing in front of the nest when I discovered the egg. She kept going back to the nest and moving the egg around the nest with her beak. One of the BO's looked like she might do something this afternoon because she was standing with her legs so far apart she was almost pidgeon toed. And she was watching me and just talking away. Not singing, just talking. I am anxious to see what's what when I open their house in the morning. I left my camera in the feed barrel so it'll be handy in the morning. I'll post a pic tomorrow when I have time to download and all that jazz.
 
One of our hens just started laying last week. I was ecstatic when I went into the coop and found a little egg. She is almost 6 months before she started laying. The other hens are 1-3 weeks younger than she is and still no eggs from them. But so far she has been quite regular giving us one egg a day for ten days now. That is the highlight of my day.
 
I'm pretty sure there is a hiddden nest somewhere. Daisy has jumped over the fence 5 times now! And once a day. (she is the one that is squatting and singing)
 
chickenprincess, I'd but a "tail" on her, to see where she's laying her stash of eggs!!

Really, don't those of you who free range your birds all day have to go looking for the eggs? Another reason I don't want to let mine out al day. The first reason being the owl, hawks and coyotes. Oh and my little terrier, who already abducted my cochin roo and licked him half to death under a cedar tree. lol
