Oh, I don't think they are being snobbish, really. They just have one hand on the wheel and one on their wallet because there is a gas station coming up.

I used to wave when I lived in WV. Grew up there and everybody waves. Here in Indy, not so much although my Mom, who is almost 80, waves at everybody. And right now they have the guys dressed as uncle sam and the statue of liberty outside every tax place on every other corner. She loves them..waves and blows kisses.

I grew up and lived in Detroit for many years ( no waving ). Several years ago we moved to a more rural area and everyone waves in our little subdivision even though I have never met most of them. At first I found it a little weird, but have really come to love it. When friends visit from back home they think it's great. Even though nobody knows them and they have out of state plates they get the wave too.

Too funny.
A very good friend of mine from NC mentioned this to me after a trip North, to my neck of the woods.

Him "No one even gives a nod up these parts"

me " I know. It's different up here. Here your lucky to get an acknowledgment when you let another driver pull out of a side street or such. But they always manage the 'bird' if you do something they didnt like"

him" Yeah. I noticed that as well."

I miss living in a small town. I miss living down South.

Up here the only drivers I usually see give a wave or nod are the motorcycle and classic muscle car drivers. Heck I dont even see the school bus drivers wave to each other now a days

we wave when we are on the back roads....

but i used to drive a bus and we wave at fellow bus drivers so I still do it to the buses sometimes...

When we moved to Fla. I was 17 yrs. old, and just a wavin' away. I still do it and I'm 36 now. People look at me weird, but I'm from Somerset, Ky. and back home you just do it. I don't even think about it, until I get a wave in return, and it's their wave that seems odd 'cause it's so rare.

I guess the wave did originate in the country, but I've brought it to the City, I'm actually gonna go to feed store right now and I'm gonna take the long way, just so I can introduce more Cityslickers to the Down-home-good-mornin' WAVE. Or maybe just the Howya'll doin' NOD.
