I just need to be patient and wait until January and order the chicks. I just didn't realize that this was going to be so difficult, and my first hatch of my own mutts went so well that I didn't think it would be this bad. LIke I said, I have my silkies, light brahmas, and Millies to concentrate on until then.

I've gotten them from CA to NC and everywhere in between. I don't think it matters where... that last leg to Anchorage is always flown.
Is there any way to specify that the package stays in a pressurized and warm cabin?
You're not the only one who had this problem. I had 3 shipments of eggs from 3 different people who PERFECTLY packaged their eggs. They were under broody hens (not all at the same time) and not one of them hatched. One box was found lying in my driveway and was beat up quite a bit even though it was marked FRAGILE. It was such a disappointment. After that I decided to buy only live chicks.
Well, thank you everyone for your thoughts and advice. I've not given up completely, not yet, as there are Blue Orpingtons to bring into this world. But I guarantee I will be most happy when I have my own eggs to hatch...
I just threw out the remainder of the second batch of shipped eggs. All dead in the shell without pipping while my own eggs are hatching right beside them. I am not optimistic about the third batch in the incubator now. I am done with shipped eggs.

This is depressing.
Can we hear from some people who have had really really GOOD luck with shipped eggs....puleeze? Otherwise, how are those of us with limited local resources going to increase the variety of our flocks?
I've had both excellent and so-so luck with shipped eggs from the exact same sellers/shippers. HenHaven sent me six Ameraucana eggs last year, from California to Georgia. Five hatched. This year, she did the same, two hatched. Last year, BamaChicken sent me six eggs from Alabama to Georgia, only 300 miles or so, four hatched. This year, she sent me 21 eggs, 8 hatched. Not sure what the problem was-bator values were good throughout.
