I actually would like to ask two ?
I have 6 hens and one Rooster, I bought them from feed store and the breed told to me was 1 Cm
3 rhode island 2 white leg horns and a sex link .
The Rir turned out to be a very nice rose combed rooster, one Rir hen and a mix that lays green eggs
she has a rose comb but does not look like a easter egger to me.
I have hatched 27 chicks from these Chickens and as far as I can tell all the chicks take after the hens.
Why do they not look like there Rooster?
My second ? is Im not 100% sure my Rooster is 100% RIR .I have a RIR that I raised from a batch I got from Cackle and the one I got from the feed store is Identical except for his Rosecomb.
I would like to be able to offer Fertile RIR eggs (I have 20 RIR hens)
Is there a easy way to tell or does it really matter that much if he is 100 pure?
He was 6 month old here. He is now close to two years.

it depends on how strong the genes are of the roosters, usually pullets look like the dad, and roosters look like the mom, however this is not always the case, it could be that his color genetics are stronger than the color genetics of the hens, thus the chicks looking like the rooster, BTW that is not rosecomb, it is peacomb, here is rosecomb https://tse3.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.6thNf3eH9PHsthsmSw732wEsDh&pid=15.1&P=0&w=232&h=175, and no he is not pure, RIR are Rosecomb and Straightcomb

Ok so I just hatched 20 chicks the hens were RIR and white Leghorns, the guy in the picture is the Rooster. I have about 8 leghorn chicks most are pure white. a few have a black spot on there back. All the spots are in the same place. also I have 4 reddish tan chicks they are a solid color, I think there RIR also there are several light brown chicks with dark stripes I also think these are RIR chicks.Who are cockerels and pullets?

Leghorns are dominant white. Crossed with almost anything they will produce white chicks, often with spots.

Your male isn't a RIR. Crossed with RIR, or any red breed will produce reddish chicks. With stripes or without.

Neither of those crosses results in sex linked offspring. You will have to wait 4-6 weeks to be sure of sex.

There's not much truth to this.
How a chick looks is determined by what genes they inherit. Plain and simple.
Sometimes they look like the rooster, sometimes they look like the hen and sometimes they look totally different then either parent.

"usually pullets look like the dad, and roosters look like the mom, however this is not always the case," In the case of sex link genes - A non barred rooster (but not dominant white) on barred hens will produce barred roosters and non barred hens, A gold or red ground color rooster on silver hens will produce silver-ish roosters and gold or red hens. Dominant white throws a monkey wrench in the works.
