Whyre kids so NERVE WRACKING!?!?!?!?!

LAst year my DS was four, he accidently killed a chicken as well. He still feels bad about it. To this day he say"i am going to be careful because i dont want to kill a chick again.

I don't call my kids bad. That is not right. I may tell them what they did was bad. But they are not. My in-laws adopted a little girl who gets herself in quite a bit of trouble at home. But all they do is scold her. They are older and do things a little different. When she is here, which is quite often, she doesn't do any of those things she does at home. But I do things different than they do and I am pretty sure that is why. Kids will often be bad to live up to the stereotype. If they are always being told they are bad, then they will be bad. Positive reinforcement is always good. If a child is considered or called bad for not listening, then we ALL must be bad. Think about it.

I never even tell my kids what they "did was bad"

I tell them what they did was "wrong"..and then explain why and how they could have done it differently.

We never use the word bad as it brings the wrong thoughts in my opinion. But...thats just us.

ETA: Please dont think I'm saying those that do tell their kids that their actions were "bad" is wrong - I'm just expressing my own opinion on the matter and what we've witnessed ourselves with kids, thanks

I for one see that you just needed to vent .. We all do from time to time.. I have an almost 4 yr old and can tell you there are many times I wanna wring his lil neck... I don't feel that you asked for advice and to those who feel it is there job too

My DD killed a chick that she didn't mean to. She was trying to take it to bed to cuddle up with it and somehow she killed it by putting it under her pillow hiding it from me. I was a little upset but knew that is what kids do and they do learn eventually that they need to be gentle with them. I had her do the chore of stripping down to her bedsheets because the chick literally crapped to death on her sheets. And that was the end of it.

She also fed the adult chickens those mini m&m's and they ate it, none were killed. I let her know not to feed candy to chickens next time. Feed them TWO pieces of bread for six chickens and three chicks running around at that time.

I know it is a stage all kids go thru it and us as parents have to breathe deep and let them know mommy and daddy still loves them even when they are "bad".

My youngest (in the picture) had a problem with being "careful" with the eggs. I knew he was only three so I didn't get mad. I explained why we don't throw eggs in the can, we placed them. Now he reminds me to be careful.

Ignorance is not knowing any better. You can't fault people for ignorance.

Stupidity is knowing better and doing it anyway. That's when you correct.

Last year my now 3 year old took a 3 day old baby khaki campbell duckling from the brooder and tried to make her "fly" while I was upstairs folding laundry.
The poor thing died of a broken neck when she apparently slammed into a wall.
You cannot be everywhere at once. It's just impossible.
I was really upset with my 2 year old then but she didn't understand and she was really upset with herself and will still cry about Gabby (the duckling) and say sorry if it's brought up.
