Wildfire evacuation

Carla, you did the best you could under the circumstances. I'm even willing to bet that there were things you didn't share with us that made a hard situation worse. I've been in situations where I knew what needed to be done but couldn't do it- money, health, whatever it was that prevented me from acting.

Since you are cleaning and scrubbing, can you maybe hang a wet sheet over openings? It could help the air inside stay a bit fresher. May only work overnight due to evaporation, but any relief is still relief. I'm also thinking your animals will do fine--they adapt so well in ways we can't imagine. Hang in there. Once you are rested and the animals doing will, then you can reassess your situation. When God closes a door, He opens another. You have so many of us keeping you in our prayers, don't despair.

The wet sheet is a great idea. My Gramma used to wave a wet dish towel through the kitchen when I set off the smoke alarm with my culinary efforts. It worked wonders to get the smoke out of the air. :barnie
I'm betting that a wet sheet would filter a lot of gunk out of the air before it gets a chance to enter your house, too.
Gee, what a visual ... wet sheets over the windows, doors, hallways, vents ... it gives a whole new meaning to the task of "changing the sheets!"

I live in northern Ohio and just heard on my news that a firefighter fighting the Carr fire stayed in someones house for a few days. The people had to evacuate but since he was fighting the fire he was staying at their house. He wrote a note to the home owners saying thanks and that he watered their garden and took care of their turkeys! Just thought that was nice of him! Go firefighters!!

There's an amazing photo circulating on FaceBook, right now, too. It's of a firefighter in full gear, reaching through smoke with a hand. It's very powerful. I'll try to find it again. If it's circulating there, i guess it's okay to share here.

FOUND IT! It's not my photo, and I wish I could give proper credit for it, but it was posted on FaceBook with no tagline.
