The turkey vultures are back just in time for the snow. I'm sure they were thrilled :lol: . These big birds took extra long to sun themselves before they left.

We see Turkey Vultures sunning and think it's to get warm but in reality i suspect they are waiting on thermals in the wind when the sun often gives them both .

Oh, interesting! I have heard that they love to use the thermal air currents to travel. I think they are probably doing both, their body temperature drops when they're sitting still all night. They've always struck me as lazy birds; they prefer to eat what others caught, they try to use the warm air currents so they don't have to use much effort in flight, and they sit around on their perches long after most of the other birds around.
