I have two female muscovy ducks that I raise in my backyard.
From my lurking on this website I learned that muscovys are good hatchers/mothers.
If I get a few hatching eggs from online and give them to my muscovys, will they hatch them, or would I need an incubator? If they see a random egg, would their mothering hormones take over and sit on them, or do they need to be in broody mode/season to do that?
Also, if I am aiming for 1~2 hatchlings, how many hatching eggs should I order?

They need to go broody first. You can make them a nest with fake eggs and see if they'll bite. I would order a dozen if you're having them shipped.
A dozen eggs?? In theory that means I could end up with 10 unwanted ducklings...in your experience, if you order a dozen, how many tend to hatch, realistically?

If they're being shipped, especially from a private entity, you might only end up with 2 out of a dozen. Or none.

Not to sound harsh, but if you can't deal with a few extras, you probably shouldn't hatch. Would be better off buying ducklings that are what you want.
