Windham Maine TSC Farm Days- NEXT DATE: JULY 28TH!

Missed the last meet, was hoping to get to this one coming up, but I forgot we're busy that morning! Poo! Taking our oldest (almost 6yo) on a surprise barn tour where he'll be starting riding lessons soon! :D:D Tour is at 10:30, so not sure if we'll have time to get to Windham before it's over.

Anyone local know or have reviews on Boulder Ridge Icelandics in Limington? That's where we're planning on taking him for lessons.

Widget, if any of those splash Orps turn out to be pullets, I'm still looking! I just can't remember when you said they'd be old enough to sex and big enough to hold their own against the other gals.

Boulder Ridge is great. They helped me when I brought my two Icelandincs over from Iceland. I boarded the horses there for a month until I had my fence done. But beware once you meet an Icey there is no other breed you will ever want to ride again.

As for the Orps. Well me being a bit on the stupid side realized that they aren't Orps but Splash Cochins.

But they are still great chickens.

Well I only have three right at the moment. LF. They were an addition to my replacement order from Cackle this year to make the minimum requirement for shipping. All I really wanted was some Salmon Faverolle pullets. The first order I lost five out of the six. The second order they weren't available for shipment. Grrrr. But I do really like Cochins. Never met one I didn't like. Next year I plan on getting more since they are one of the breeds I want to focus on. For pets not for show. And I will again try the SF. I am bound and determined to have some here.

Oh shoot! Ah well, I can keep looking! LOL Cochins are tempting, but I'm getting a bunch of birds from a friend of a friend up north soon, so I better wait on any extras!:rolleyes: Plan was only to get some Americaunas (I can never spell that right!), but I'm sure that won't be all I come home with. lol

ETA: I AM still looking to add 1-2 splash, blue or lavender orp pullets to the flock if anyone knows where I might find some! They don't need to be show quality or anything, just pets. Coop ready is a must though, I'm done dealing with the mess of a brooder for the year!

I'll be the one with the big white fluffy dog and a few ducks for sale. The ducks are for sale not the dog. But I will rent her for a stroll around the parking lot.

However I don't show my chickens or ducks so I won't be of much help with any questions on that front.

hopefully you can make time to go to the farmington basket show aug 5th in farmington at the fairgrounds. that is where you can meet and get lots of your showing questions answered and see a real show in a much relax atmosphere. it's even free to get in. in order to show at the fairs, your birds will need to be tested and a tester will be on site or you can make an appointment for him to test your birds later. the first test, he needs to test all of your birds that are adults or a percentage of your flock, if you have different breeds, it will need to be at least one of each breed.

WOW! I can't wait to go. I am a newbie with lots of questions especially about cochins and showing at the fairs. See you all there.

In order to show birds they need to be NPIP (National Poultry Improvement Plan) tested. That is to ensure (hopefully) that the birds you enter in a show are healthy and aren't carrying any infectious diseases that could spread to other birds. I'm sure someone with more knowledge as to what is tested for and how to get it done will post with more information. Hope this helps.
