River gave him a blank stare. "I was coming to see if Night was already on his shift. I see he is not here." She cocked her head at him. "Who was that rooster?"
"Nobody," Blue snapped, "And that's not your business, anyway."
(Vaast)
Riverfire fluffed his hackles and made his way over alongside River. "What's this I hear about some rooster?" His eyes flicked between the two of them in a mild suspicion. "Or maybe my hearing's just going bad."
Blue dipped his head to the older rooster, though it seemed strained. "Just another ground-guard I was talking to. He... mentioned an unused fox den at the edge of our territory." Blue's lie was said so casually it was hard to think he'd made it up. These chickens need to stop poking into my business. What'd I ever do to them?

Riverfire tossed his comb to the left to stare at Blue with stern intensity for a moment longer. "Very well," he grumbled at last, not sure if he was entirely satisfied by Blue's simple explanation. "Carry on."

River gave him a ruthlessly cold glare. "Now that wasn`t so hard to say, was it?" He`s lying, and one day, I`ll expose him. She thought.

Blue nodded to Riverfire, then turned his head to look at River. Once he thought the rooster was out of earshot, he replied his sister, "What do you mean? River, why are you acting so suspicious of me? I've done nothing wrong." His cool voice didn't betray anything, except for slight frustration.

Riverfire stalked off at a decent jog, though he couldn't help turning back every few paces to cock his neck back in the two siblings' direction. Ah, let them be. It's probably some relational mess or something these young birds are always getting into. Nothing for me to worry about. With a determined full-body shake, he continued forward to camp.

Steel sat in the shade beside Amber, watching the goings-on and preening his feathers occasionally. He watched the mild verbal smack-down between Blue and Riverfire carefully, though both of them didn't seem to get too ruffled about whatever had happened.

Amber lightly pecked his wattle. "Who you watching?" She asked.
"Blue and Riverfire... They seemed to chaff there for a minute."
"Ah," Amber sighed. "Shall we go round up a couple Fledges to take foraging?" She suggested, eager to move on from the minor scuffle.
Steel shook his hackles feathers. "Why not?" he said. He stood up and stretched his left hind leg, then straightened up and flapped his wings mightily, ending with a loud crow.
Amber watched him admiringly. "Fancy," she clucked playfully, before facing where most of the flock who was still in camp were gathered. "Any Fledges who aren't busy, come with me and Steel," she called across the flock.
