Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I have to laugh at you guys....that fjord ad--"will make a great broodmare!" But she has never been bred...how in the world does the guy know she will be a great brood mare then? What a dope. I looked at some stuff on CL too...waste of an hour for sure! I did see some white calls so I gave Jerry the head's up on that. He will call them.

Has anyone heard fro Carol? I am trying to get in touch with her still! It was heavenly to have some bread with bruschetta for lunch today...I think I am going to bake something else from that book...but I really need to clean my kitchen first! I am exhausted from doing NOTHING today...maybe I need some alcohol?

Amish case up-date;

Thanks for the offers to call the Sheriff's Dept. I did call (since I witnessed the event) and spoke to the Dispatcher. She checked and an Officer did go out and talked to the "boys". They told him that the horse was rearing and kicking with his front feet, that is why he was hobbled. First of all, Horses don't kick with their front feet they "strike" and they failed to mention that they were beating the horse with two whips. A "Humane Officer" is going to call me back.

Now now TO, don't you know that "will make a great brood mare" is all based on pedigree?

I mean if the mare is well bred, how could she not be a great brood mare! Right?! LOL!!! Some times I truely wonder what people are thinking.
I had a Running QH mare that had some of the bluest blood on both her dams and sires side that I have ever seen. She had a huge long story involving almost dying more then once, permanent face paralysis and partial blindness in one eye. She missed her Index by 1 100th of a second-after she had her accident. But as great as her blood lines were and how"great" a mom she might have been, I never bred her. I never wanted a foal and I felt and still do! that we are wat to over populated in horses and to many horses that need homes. Plus I never ever sold her knowing that all she would be was bred. I felt she had way to many limitations to have foals and that was not fair to her. Plus "she" told me she was a liberated American Girl and did not want to be tied down by illegitimate foals!! I never even had her Caslicks removed. Sadly at the age of 9 she colicked beyond help and I had to euthanize her. Surgery was not an option due to finances, but the vets did not think they would be able to save her even if I could have paid for the surgery. It was a bad bad bad colic. One of the worst I've seen. I got to be with her when they put her down and say good bye. Best QH mare ever! She was an inch shy of 17 hands and a copper-y, fire-y red chestnut, just like her grandsire, with 3 white socks and a wide blaze-loads of chrome! Legs a mile long and a neck like a giraffe and a decent brain in her head! I remember the night she was born I fell head over heals IN LOVE with her. All the Barn Buddies were there for her birth and my friend Sue dubbed her Georgie because she looked like a tom girl. We used to sing Georgie Girl to her.
I got her from her owner/friend of mine whe she was 4, he needed to down size his brood mares and wanted her to go to someone who "knew" her story. I found out she needed a home and that was it. No hesitation, no regrets. Man, I miss that mare!*sobs*

Good job nonsuch!! I hope you can keep at it!

That is good news that they actually went out there. So glad you followed up on that. Will be interesting to hear what the humane officer has to say.
I just hope these kids learn a lesson here and don't just continue their behavior behind closed doors so to speak.

Yep, I spent tons of time on CL today too !! In between going to get chicken food and giving Buttons (butt dog for short) her hair cut. She goes in for her teeth cleaning, extractions and to get that bubble sweat gland taken off of her head. Plus a few more tiny ones on her body. They said they are very common in Bichons. Never did find a gate for my roundpen !!

She'll get a good bath tonight to scour her clean. Of course she decided to roll in the mudd today for some reason !!!

We got home from work and DH heard an abusive Roo hurting one of our hens. She has two bloody spots on the back of her head. We put antibiotic and a large band-aide on her and he is kicked out for the night and maybe camp for him this weekend if he lasts that long

going out now to close everyone up

later!

That reminds me, we have 2 Partridge Bantam Cochin boys to rehome, 1 is a rooster hatched spring of 2010 and 1 is a cockeral hatced spring 2011-$5 each as they are DS(9)'s extras.

Also, never heard back on the peachick add so guessing they are gone- who was looking for what again?

Well DD and DS(9) will be back from 4-H camp tomorrow afternoon, sure is different not having them here and DS(6) misses them very much-has noone to fight with over DS games etc.

starting another group of Blue Marans eggs in the incubator-trying to test hatch again using the Blue Cuckoo Cockeral over the hens. The 4 babies from the 1st hatch are growing well, they are outside in our big garage and are wilder than the other groups of chicks we raised in the house. DH says it's because DD isn't in the brooder all the time like she was when they were inside the house

Enjoy the nice night-finally shut the A/C off and opened the windows and doors. Not looking forward to the bill but a couple of us need to be kept cooler

Yes I am alive, I called TO so all is good there. LOL
I had to get up WAAAYYY too early to go finish cleaning the farrier stall, my barn owner had a severely injured horse in there for 3 or 4 weeks till we were sure a major artery that may have been severed next to her hoof was closed up enough. She had a pressure bandage on as it was soo close to the hoof it couldn't be stitched.
She is fine, out in the pasture and running around being a horse.

I have weird chickens...especially broody ones...
OK, it started with the buff lace polish bantam... she got kicked out of the nest by another hen, who then got kicked out of the nest by a bantam cochin....
SOOO now.. I have a bantam cochin on about 15 or so eggs, and my gold lace frizzle polish bantam is sitting IN the nest box with her.. and the other hen decided
to sit on a few eggs in another section of the row of nest boxes... I only have 3 so 2 are filled with broodies... I brought in one from the young chicken/bantam area and guess
who is in checking that one out... the OTHER bantam cochin who already has 3 chicks... really!!... grrr jiminy...

SO MLH.. i have a boring chestnut gelding you can come love on.. he is short, cute, and can fit in the back of your car!!
LOL
