Non Stop pouring rain all day Packer win sunday Y'all.....

Just stoppin in to say hi.... weather like every where it seems was crappy. I read wayyyyy to many post for Brent.... and me. Friday to Sunday .... again why are on the puter???
lau.gif

Anyway..yesterday I made 6 loaves of zuchinni bread, a pumpkin pie (squash) , apple pudding cake, and today I made a loaf of beer bread. DD27 came and had 2 fish sandwiches last night from the friday night fish fry and took home one loaf of zuchinni bread and 2 rows of apple pudding cake. Then DD34 came today and took 2 loaves of zuke bread, pie, apple pudding cake and beer bread, plus 2 jars of grape jelly, and salsa and eggs. She called me today and the salsa is gone and so is half of the beer bread. Which was still warm when she got back.

Jim... we have 3 freezers...FULL...

Amy...Prayers sent...

TO...You have an amish store near you? They usually sell that. As far as your liver toungue and heart cook that up for your birds for the winter they will go crazy for it!!!

Jodi...at 4 weeks the temp is around 85 -80.

Not sure who mentioned the apples for pies? Don't freeze apple slices for pies. It doesn't work...I know I've been freezing pies for 38 years. Freeze the pies they turn out sooo much better. Same with zuchinni, freeze bread like i've done ...i've tried the shredded and had to throw it out.

Well my eyes are tired from reading and posting.

Have a good nite all

Brent and Suzie

Well Suzie you wouldn't have to post so much if you would quit making our mouths water with those wonderful things you are baking all the time !!! I think next years bash should be a fish fry along with the venison sausage !!! And take out a couple loaves of zuke bread and few apple pies while your at it ~!!! YUM YUM YUM !!
Wish I lived closer. Sounds like your house is like my mothers was. A revolving door where the kids just come in an well, take what they want !!!! Smart kids you got there. Do your daughters know how to bake ??? lol
I don't think I could freeze any zuke bread. It would get eaten on it's way down to the freezer !!!
Sh!t now I want zuke bread !!!

You're right ! With this crappy weather all I did was sit on the computer today !!!

Not much to report since didn't do anything worth mentioning !!

Time to hit the fridge again, even though I know there isn't much in there !!! lol

What temperature did you start your chicks out at? Every week as TO said, you lower the temp. by 5 degrees. Watch their behavior, that'll be the best indication if they're comfortable or not. You can't get the bulb any further from them? If they look too hot, then crack a window or get some ventilation/airflow to bring the temp down a little, but be careful it doesn't get drafty, especially at night.
TO, how many jars do you need? It's Cind coming for jars, not Carol, but I can bring some to the bash for you. And yikes, you be careful out there! That has got to be the worst. You spend big bucks on something and wind up with a lemon. Aggravating. I'd send them an e-mail saying how disappointed you are with their product. What's the worst that could happen? If they gave a rat's rump about their customers, maybe they'll respond.

If it was pouring, why were you watering, TO?

Deb, instead of digging the sod out in spring, you can lay down some old plastic/vinyl tablecloths or shower curtains & weight them down with rocks, bricks or whatever, then let it sit all winter. The grass should be killed off by spring if you do it early enough in the fall. Good job on the quitting smoking. You can do it!

Sorry to hear about your cochins, BBP. I hope you can get some partridge banties.
hugs.gif

With the way your kids clean you out, Bigz & Suzie, I'm suprised your freezers are full.
lau.gif
But I can see why you cook so much. My brother used to do that to my mom, but she was always cooking too, and always sending him home with plenty. Betcha he's regretting moving up nort.

Well, soggy day down here too. As I said earlier, I made it out to the coop between downpours to give the girls some treats & just made it back to the house when it started up again. It rained & thundered on & off most of the afternoon, and the sky got that really funky color during the game, like something really insideous could happen at any time. Creepy. At least the bad weather allowed me to get caught up on the laundry , so that was a plus.

As for the bash, what would everyone think of Oct. 15th at Korth Park in Lake Mills? It is pretty close to I-94, and has a newer shelter that has a kitchen area. If you go to Google maps, just type in Korth Park, Lake Mills & you can see it.

Here is a writeup of it from the Jefferson Co. website, and the link is below. They have some pics of the shelter. It is the second set of pics, & they should be labeled "Korth Lane Shelter".

Korth Park: 89 Acres
Located in Lake Mills on Rock Lake, Korth Lane E of County Highway S. Korth Park was purchased in 2000 to protect the water quality and fish habitat of Rock Lake. A packed limestone bicycle trail along the shore of Rock Lake connects Cedar Lane to Elm Point Road. A connecting trail to the Glacial Drumlin Trail, just to the south, was completed in 2003 on land purchased by the WIDNR. This trail connection creates a loop path around Rock Lake.
Existing Facilities - 28x40 wooden shelter on Elm Point Road, 3,500 square foot, three-season shelter with kitchen facilities on Korth Lane, packed gravel trail along Rock Lake, restrooms, grills, connecting trail to Glacial Drumlin Trail, shoreline restoration, prairie restoration and tree planting

I do not know if we could just show up and use the shelter, however. They do have rental fees listed on another page, which says "This shelter also features a kitchen that is available for rent". So I'm not sure if the rental fee is for the kitchen, or for the shelter but the kitchen rental would be extra? If so, they don't say how much extra.
Any thoughts/ideas/opinions?

Hi piples!

CC...I think Thur. will work. I believe I have your #, if not I'll PM you before then. I'll need directions anyway. I will take as many as you want to give up! Seems I'm always short. (ok, I'm short short too lol
cool.png
) If you want to split them between me and TO that's fine.

tiki....Hope the chicks are doing better.... poor little things.
love.gif
Handsome little roo!

Well, guess I'll go and move some birds before it gets light out. Moving them at night seems to help give them the idea as to where to go to roost. Lacey is acting like she wants to take the kids for a walk so I better give her a safe place to do it! So, the small coop it is.
DS#2 & 3 came and helped move furniture so we can get DS #1 moved in. Sure hope the gale he's living with doesn't put up too much of a fit.
hmm.png
(Long story there) DS #2 also put up a motion light by the back of the coop where I can't see from the house. Hope it works.

Night All.... have a good day!

Ok, I'm still up !!! Now I did it. I am sitting in the living room by my crank out window. Started to get warm so I decided to open the window a bit. Then go chilled so I reached behind me to close it. Well I cranked i the wrong way and it went to far. Now the latch won't catch and the window is wide open. I'm sitting her in my jammys so I ain't going out there to push the window closed !!!
th.gif
Just don't want my parrots to get a big chll. I'll have to leave Chuck a message to go out in the morning when he gets up !!! That ought to make his morning !!!
gig.gif

Well, I didn't make the cabbage today. Turns out we didn't have enough cabbage. YES we HAD a beautiful garden. THE DEER LOVED IT
lau.gif

While Chuck is sitting out in his deer stand they are out eating his garden !!!

Anyway here is the recipe for DANISH CABBAGE HEAD aka YELLOW STUFF & WHITE STUFF !! Don't have exact measurements but it really doesn't matter.

So you get the biggest cabbage you can find that will fit in your pot. Cut the top off of the cabbage like you are going to carve it like a pumpkin. Save the top. Then scrape out the inside of the cabbage.
Then take 1-2 lbs of ground beef (or as much as you think will fit in your hollowed out cabbage.)
Mix the ground beef with eggs, flour and a bit of milk, salt and pepper to taste. Now stuff the cabbage with the ground beef mixture.
Put the top back on the cabbage. Either push tooth picks into the cabbage to hold the top on or what my Mom would do is wrap the cabbage up with sewing thread to keep the top on. You can also use white string.
Now you put the whole cabbage in your pot and add water to cover the cabbage head. Enough to keep it submerged. Then you cook it on the stove until the cabbage is nice and tender and the beef is done. That would depend on how big your cabbage is etc. Start it out boiling them lower to a simmer.

Ok now, peel and cut quarter as many white potatoes as you think you will need for the size of cabbage and beef you are making. Put them in their own pot and well you know how to boil potatoes right !! LOL

Now the best part that makes the meal and the YELLOW STUFF and WHITE STUFF !!!

When the cabbage is done DO NOT drain the water. You are going to now make a white sauce out of the cabbage water, lots of butter and milk and flour. Now I'm no expert on white sauce so You might just have to help me out here. I guess you make a rue with the butter & flour right ?? Then add some of the cabbage water and milk. The reason I can't tell you how much of each is because I make tons of white sauce. Trust me you want to make tons of it. If you have a tasty cabbage the cabbage water really adds to the flavor of the sauce. So now that that is as clear as mud !!!
lau.gif
you need to make the YELLOW STUFF. This part is easy. Grab at least 1 stick of butter !! Either melt it on the stove (in a pan LOL) or in the microwave but be careful in the micro cause you don't want to overcook or it wil overflow and run all over your micro tray.

OK, so now you have your cabbage head that is done. Take it out and let it drain a bit. You have your drained potatoes. Your White sauce and your melted butter.

Grab a big spoon and dig into the cabbage head so you get a big hunk of meat and cabbage. Put that on your plate and kind of smash it down and cut it up a bit. Then flatten some of the potatoes on your plate.
Ok if you are like me you have your whole plate full by now. Make sure you have a nice big plate and it's best to have a nice rim around the edges !!! Cause now here is the best part, don't skimp here !!!
Take your WHITE STUFF and pour it all over your cabbage, meat and potatoes ( Gosh I'm getting hungry for this right now !!! ) Remember DON"T SKIMP. Then take your YELLOW stuff, the melted butter and pour or should I say generously dribble this over the top of the WHITE STUFF !!! . To enhance the flavor add salt & pepper on top of that and you have yourself DANISH CABBAGE HEAD aka YELLOW STUFF & WHITE STUFF !!!
It will melt in your mouth !!! If you do it right you will see why you need to have a nice lip on your plate cause that yellow stuff and white stuff has a tendency run all over !! If it doesn't you need to add more !!!
It is not a diet dish so pour the stuff on and enjoy !!!
My mom would have to make two cabbage head because my Dad & I loved it so much !!
love.gif
love.gif

The last time I made it I thought I would try something different and it was alot less work. I just cut up the cabbage into quarters and put that in the pot. Then I made the beef mixture and formed that into about 4 good size meat balls, the flour & eggs keeps them from breaking up. I think I even boiled the potatoes in the same pot. Came out tasting the same but the original recipe was stuffed cabbage like MOM used to make.

I have even made a cream of cabbage soup with all of the above ingredients just drain out some of the water and cut the potatoes into smaller pieces and the beef and cabbage would be in smaller sizes too. Lots of butter and then milk and flour to thicken the soup.

My Aunt puts carrots in her Cabbage head when she boils the cabbage but My Mom never did so I don't.

Hope it makes sense to you all. It sure is good. Maybe I love it so much cause I'm half Danish ????? You know we like our Butter !!! And sweets
hide.gif

Ok, I started this before 5 Am and am finishing this after 5 Am guess I beat Cind for the night and Jim for the Morning !!! Well, better get to bed, it's getting cold here by the window !!!
