I called her today and she was going to find out when she went back to work at 3pm. She drives school bus. Then I went down there about 5:30pm and no one was home. Just called now and no answer. She knows I'm coming down to Racine this weekend so hopefully I"ll here by tomorrow. I'll try calling or going down there again tomorrow.

Her husband works out of town so she isn't home alot, think she goes to her parents and sisters alot these days.

So do you guys think if I put them in big vari kennels and face them forward up tight against the front of the truck they will be ok for a 250 mile trip? I could put a tarp over the top of it to, to break the wind.
How many Ameraucanas do you want from Jim?
I'm hopefully coming down Thursday sometime but have no idea when I will get out of here. Could be late afternoon before I leave. I work very slow and I may have to wait until DH gets home from work on at around 4pm to help me load up.
Would one of you guys be able to meet up with me on the interstate Thursday night or do you wanna meet me Friday morning at the UW HOSP parking lot ?? LOL
I have a tendency to not be a morning person that you know all to well .
hide.gif
I have to be at the Hospital by 10:30AM I think for a mamo then doc appointment at 12:20PM.

I'd hate to have to unload the chickens on Thursday night in Racine (middle of the city) or have them crow and have some BB come and take them or ??? Don't ask me what BB means, it got me in trouble once before !!!

Anyone going to the Beaver Dam show on Saturday and the swap in Beaver Dam on Sunday ? I talked to the guy I got my peacocks and hen from tonight and he doesn't have anymore but he is going to look for me at the swap on Sunday.
He has pairs of Seramas for $25.

I'd call the neighbor tonight but I think they go to bed real early cause he gets up to leave for work real early. Never mind, I just called and left them another message !! I figure if I'm up then they should be too !!
Ok that is all for now.

FT- I think that putting cardboard up and around the kennels would work better. A tarp would blow too much, you could try a blanket.. OR to tarp each one separately.

I am getting 3 ameracauna's from Jim, all pullets, and a bantam cochin roo from you.
Any top hatters (if you get them in time), and perhaps a feather leg hen.

I have a service call in Janesville to do at 5pm on Thursday, but could meet you at a gas station just off of Hwy 94 at Cty Rd N which is the Cottage Grove exit.
I believe its Exit 244 on Hwy 94.
Let me know.

I found this and thought of TO

I don't think you are the only one confused about what FT will all be bringing down with her. I'm thinking she might just bring her horse trailer filled to the brim with all those roos of hers.
lau.gif

Ok Guys,

Here is the scoop.

I'm going meet DH tomorrow in Antigo at his work to go get hay, then we'll drive down to Jims to get the hens. Hopefully there will be enough for all of us !!!! So we will bascially be cousins !!!!! Or at least inlaws !!!
lau.gif

So, my plans on when I'm coming down are still in the air. I did't get that topper. It was a darker gray then the bottom of our truck and well, I just don't want to spend $350 right now that I don't really have. SOOOO I talked to DH and we think we might just put our topper on and really clamp it down good, try to patch up the broken side window and bungee the back window closed. We were worried that with the open side window that the hatch would fly open since the latch doesn't hold. Hate the Lakeland Toppers btw. I am going to stop at Lakeland in Milw when I am down there to see how much they will charge to fix the window. Of course we have the window that is like rimless glasses, no rubber it, looks nice but probably why it is so expensive to fix and was an expensive topper to begin with. The guy today woud give me a $50 trade in for it
lau.gif
Then when he gets in an old topper that is no good he will sell the windows for $100 each !!! So if he put in a old window on my $50 topper he would be selling it for $500 or more !!! I'm no fool !!!!

So, just a wasted day today but well not really cause I just happened to be in the area where the woman had the two free goats and some free chickens.
I kept trying to call her on my way to and from Eagle River and on my way home she finally called back. Told me someone from Rhinelander is taking the goats and chickens. I was disappointed about the chickens. Then she said she can call her then call me back. Found out that the woman hadn't picked them up yet or even seen the goats and chickens. I said well I'm right in the area right now. She asked where I was and I told her. She said you are 1 mile away. So I turned around to just go look. I know she liked me by the way we talked. She was worried about the polish rooster because he was so gentle and the other woman had 8 roosters and she was going to put him in with all of them right away.
Anyway to make a long story a tiny bit shorter. I am getting the two goats !!!! And some chickens. The brown, white and black goat is a fainter whether and his name is Hank, and the Black boy with a white star is a pygmy and his name is Earl !!!
The chickens are a black polish rooster with some nice green sheen and some brown feathers, not sure what color you would call him and a black and gold lace polish hen. Then there is another polish hen which is a bit smaller, basically all black. The rooster is the nicest of the polish.
Then there is a buff Orphington hen and a partridge bantam cochin. At least that is what it looks like to me. Not very good feathering on the legs at all but I guess she lays nice eggs for her size.

Then there are some 2 month old babys. She isn't quite sure who the mothers are but the polish rooster is for sure the father of them all. They are all black for the most part. Some seem to have a single comb and might be from the orpington or the cochin. A few had one or two feathers on the legs which to me would indicate that they might be from the cochin. She lost an Orpington and two polish hens to her sons dog that also could be some of the mothers.

So, I am going to keep the adult polish, buff and cochin cause they are the Roos girls, He is attached to them. He is the nicest Polish rooster I have ever seen. Not like my wild guys. Looks like there are few of the babies that might be roos so if anyone wants them let me know and I will bring them down.
As far as the bunnies and the polish and feather legs go that my neighbor told me about, well the guy that had them found homes for all the chickens and bunnies !!! Sorry !

I found an ad on CL for some silkies in West Bend. A couple of black hens that I really need for my breeding pens.

WCC what are your hours on Friday? TO gets home after 1:30pm what about you. Cind I know when you are home or should I say when you are up !!!

Ok, taking it one day at a time
lau.gif
I'll update after I get the birds from Jim !!! Sure wish DH wasn't working this week, this is making my life tough !!!!
th.gif
I physically can't get that topper on myself amoungst other things to get things done. Oh well, I'm going to take a pill and get to bed by midnight tonight instead of staying up all night or I'll never make it to the doctor on time.
There is chance I will be cancelling my appointment for Friday in Madison and go in December but I will still be bringing the chickens down, that's more important !!! LOL
Ok, good night for now unless I think of anything else !!! Gotta start winding down !!! LOL

SH!T don't feel bad being confused !!!! You should feel how I feel ???? LOL I don't know which end is up !!!
lau.gif
Then I'll have to pick out a roo for TO and WCC. I don't get rid of to many birds this is gonna be tough !!! But I know they are going to family so .......... it makes it a tiny bit easier to say goodbye. Although I know they won't be eaten right !!!!! So they are actually saving their lives !!!
So CC what do you want me to bring down for you ?????
idunno.gif

Oh plus I'm going to have to bring down my showgirl with the wry neck that is in with a silkie that is keeping it company. It is doing good with it's double doses of Vit E and prednisone everyday and I don't dare ask DH to do it. He wouldn't know how anyway. So they will be coming on my road trip. I call her Tweedy but am thinking of calling her Tumbler !!! LOL Poor girl. I love her, although she smells when I kiss her. I had better remember to take her out of my bra before I got into the hospital right ? Can you see it now, a showgirl sticking her head out of my shirt !!!!

Oh and have to get out my sewing machine, now swallow everybody so you don't spit your coffee on the screen, I noticed I had a seamed ripped in the crotch of my jeans today. Don't want to be collecting feathers with those on !!!! I can only imagine what would go through peoples minds. Especially people that don't have chickens on there minds !!!
gig.gif

So what am I coming home with ????? LOL Could probaby fit a mini pony in the back of the truck !!!! Could use some more female Runner ducks !!! Anyone ????? Those suckers have quit laying too !!! Slackers !!
Ok, going to retire into the bedroom and try to knit a dish cloth with the mesh type fabric. Bougt some at a flea market and they work good for washing eggs, very gently however. They don't hold bacteria etc.

Doggone it. I hit submit instead of preview. Must be getting tired. Can't imagine why: I've only read 5 pages so far & still have 3 more to catch up on.

Wonderful pics, everyone! Robin, I see why that pic is your fav. Your DD & her dog are just precious.
FT, are those the 2 goats where the black one likes to tip the other one over? Sounds like my kind of goat!

Guess he has a sense of humor.
No rain here today, yet. Mostly sun in the AM but the clouds rolled in later. We're supposed to get some rain tonight.
Didn't get a whole lot accomplished today. Mom came over this AM & we were going to go shopping, but when I came in from doing chicken chores, she was crashed out in the recliner. Kinda had me worried, but she woke up a few times & said she just got so dragged out tired. She felt like she had a fever, so I made her stay to sleep some more. DH was feeling sick too yesterday. Must be something going around. I sure hope I don't get it. I wanted to can pears & peppers tomorrow. We shall see how that goes.
roll.png

Still have to feed the kitties, make DHs lunch & get to bed. Hopefully I won't be rudely awoken at 2am with the sinus pain again. And not be able to fall back to sleep.
somad.gif

Oh, well. Sweet dreams, all!

Just make sure when you wear those jeans that you don't have your chicken in your bra.
No chickens for me this time, thank you, FT! But I still want some of your future orps.
big_smile.png
Just try & shake that habit of hatching all roos, will ya, pretty please?

Ok, I still haven't gone to bed but I have to comment on the roo thingy !!
I talked to the guy that I bought my peacocks from yesterday and we got on that topic of hatching our roos. Anyway he said if you hatch out alot of hens keep the rooster that fathered them !!! Guess it is in his Jeans !!!
gig.gif

So one good thing when I hatch out some of those orps I'll know who the father is.
I know who all of my silkies fathers are for the most part as well. I still have to pair them all up and switch partners now with them. Gotta get a TV set down there to keep me down there. With the new fall season I have to be p here by 7pm to watch all the shows !!!

Ok good night !!!

came home from town aboout an hour ago.. I didn't drive, Agnes did.. let me tell you, it is FOGGY .. even right in town..

I got an email from a Thai breeder.. He saw my ad on c/list. he just wanted to tell me that I had Thai chickens.. I am glad he wrote.. I finally figured out that they were not Ukokkei.. Brent told me that a while ago.. but you know me, I have to research and find out for myself.. I have them listed as jungle fowl on c/list.. I suppose I should go in and change that to Thai game birds..

better get to bed.. goodnight..

Jim..... Storky is that "odd" chick I got from you and it kinda' grew on me. Think it might be jungle fowl/ Delaware cross? What ever, he/she thinks it's a guinea! Runs with them all the time!
73670_img_0524.jpg

I'll take whatever you decide to send, hens, pullets, mystery chicks, hopefully fairly good layers of any type. No need for roosters! This place is starting to sound like FT's Of the 4 Ameraucanas I got from you, 2 were roos, Out of the 6 Jasmine hatched, 4 are roos, looking at the 5 Lacey hatched, I think I got 4 roos! Plus the ones that fathered her clutch!
barnie.gif
Let me know what you want for them and I can send the money to you unless your coming to the So. Bash!

Raiq...
Can you imagine a 110lb girl, trying to wrestle a stiff deer, in bright pink scrubs into the trunk of a toyota carolla?!?! epduc

Yep I can! Back in '85 or so I hit a 4 pointer! Snapped the neck clean, and dented the car but me and the car were OK (other than the dent) And yes, it was a '79 Toyota Corolla! I had a tow rope in the trunk so I cinched it around the deer, opened both back doors and pulled it through onto the back seat! It JUST fit!
lau.gif
Tasty little bugger!

Robin... Cute pic of your daughter and her friend! BTW... were did you say you live? I have kin all along Hwy 63 from Hayward to Ashland! Oh... and tell your DH no need to show off the bait!
lau.gif

TO... hope your critters got through the rain OK! How's your toe? So... where are the books going?

BBP... Try as we might, we can't save them all.

Hope you keep that bugger away from your girls! And the kids! Yes, a trap sounds good!

FT.... I'll PM my phone number so we can make arrangements for bird transfer! If you need help or something I can be in Racine in 30 min. or so depending on where in Racine. If you want to stop over to or from, that works too.

Well, I got all of the green tomatoes picked and sorted. The "good" ones I'll try to ripen, the rest I'll make something out of. I made the mistake of letting the chickens into the garden a little too soon! I forgot to get one of the watermelons
hmm.png
by the time I remembered it they had a big hole in it! Little sh!ts! Today is clean out the frige. day
sickbyc.gif
and see what I can do with those green tomatoes. Got to put a cat door in DS's room too. Doesn't sound like much, but for me it will be a full day!

Night all!
