Remember last week I mentioned we were having issues with the toilets... well, it got worse! 2nd son came over tonight to work on it. One of the main pips to the septic split! Probably the original pipe to the older part of the house. It was iron. About a 3' split up to 1/2 wide! Had to have gave way recently because it was OK when they inspected the house when we bought it a year ago.

Anyway son couldn't finish it tonight so we have NO DRAINS or TOILETS until tomorrow night! EWWWWW

Beak count tonight came up 1 short... can't find the black cochin roo!

The guineas put up a bug fuss just before dark .... hummm owl?

I'm sick, tired, frustrated and sad.... not a good day. And the house STINKS! I feel like

Greetings from Superior.

We are having a great time up here raising chicks in the city. Got 5 hens that have laid in the coop right now, we are hoping for some consistency out of them. 3 of them are getting ready to lay. We have 5 Serama house chickens that we hope to breed come spring and self the eggs/peeps.

Just got 5 eggs under our broody bantam cochin that we don't believe has even laid an egg yet. Hopefully she will be a good momma.

Is there anything else you all share?

tiki244: Shes fine-was reaching down for her radio or something. She had to have gunned it pretty hard for it to take the front bumper off and crack of pieces of both side panels. (Saturn) Thanks for asking. We will see how she survives her dads reaction tomorrow night LOL

Hi all! Great visit with Deb today in Janesville...her Dh wanted to keep my dog Elliott...she is beat tonight from all the attention! Went to F&F to get my gift card and spent it plus $10 on new waterers and feeders for the coops and a new hose turn off valve. Bought the industrial one...twind the price--I hope it lasts twice as long now...then I was almost home ans saw that a house went up for sale near me. I know the guy that lived there (now deceased) but his wife Kathy is still there so I stopped in to talk with her. Got a tour of the house...I SO WANT TO BUY IT!!!!! it is on 20 acres. The house has 6 bedrooms--3200 sq/ft. A barn ans a shop and another outbuilding. Origional woodwork, picket doors, 2 fireplaces, stained glass and a turret room! I am in love with the place. Dh says, "I would NEVER buy that place the location is horrible!" YEah it's on a state hwy but I think is back sufficiently (not like our place!) He says the land is crappy...I say it's level. I could go on and on. It makes me depressed that he wont even go and take a look...I know why too, he doesnt want to fix this place up so we could sell it!

AngieB--I dont think I would want to be in your daughters' shoes tomorrow! Hopefully you had insurance on her car and that it will pay to fix the damage...that is NOT cheap!!!

Carol--when I found my phone I felt sure that you might have a message on it to come and help you! Good idea to bring horses to call them in! That is what I was going to suggest. Did you get the brakes fixed on your truck so you could haul them yourself? Your story got me paranoid cause my electric fence is malfunctioning again! Man I hate that thing lately...and they know just when to test it too! Darn animals!
THe neighboe in the back plowed up his bean fields today so I can move my fence and let the goats out to trip trees.. They do such a good job of trimming.
Oh Geez...someone just drove by and laid on the horn!! Yup 2 of my dogs were out and most likely on the road...they are fine. I dont think it was the BC--probably the old rat terrier...he is really senile lately--think he wont be going out alone anymore!
OK-well now that my heart is not pounding out of my chest I think I will go to bed...I sure hope it is a good day outside tomorrow--today was weird to be sure--I need to hang plastic, move birds and build the insides of the new coop so the Bucks and Blues can live there and have additional light AND start to lay eggs and earn their keep!

I have seramas, they are great little chickens, I may have a class A (the smallest size they can be) rooster from a group I bought a little while ago.
Bantam cochins are great broodies, and will set on eggs even after laying age!! And they are great moms!

I spent 11 dollars on my 5 seramas so I am not too sure of what I will end up with. They are 8 weeks old now and are almost feathered out. One may be a silkie... the others are still small, the oldest is two weeks older, but we are trying to figure out what to do with them through the winter. I am thinking about building a small wooden coop in the back yard for them with a lamp/heater, but I don't know. They are living in a 3x2 wire coop right now in my living room.

We will see how they end up in another 4 months. This is a grand adventure.

Might want to just pay for damages yourself. Save the insurance (and increased rates) for the big stuff. That's why my bumper never got fixed.

Jim's probably playing with his new trailer and doctoring it up before the snow flies up here. A neigbor up on HWY 8 saw tiny snow flakes today !!!
