Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Wet Afternoon All... yep we have the guns dried off and called it quits for today. Been a lot of nature enjoyment and not much dragging and working. OK too once in awhile to have appreciation for everything around you for hours at a time. I'll give it another chance in the morning and then call it a gun season.

We caught the 3 javas that had aprons on at roost time last night and took them off to fully featherd backs since they are done molting. Nice to see them without them. They really never minded them it seemed. Clipped the beak on one hen that needs the attention. I think they are all pretty happy and healthy.

Glad to see some of you lost from the thread. We miss you guys too. I love it when someone repeats something I've said.....kinda makes me think someone actually read my post without skipping over that guy, eh!

I think you'll need to make a travel plan for Custom Coops Will Travel Jim. I'm on the way somewhere and need a coop for the boys and another grow out coop for the newbies. After those are full of birds, I'll let you know what's next on the list. I need shelves in the pole barn to get the crap off the floor and have room for stuff sitting outside.

Venzun meatloaf topped with tomatoes and jack cheese with mashed tatoes and cajun veggy. It's carrots, green beans and onions with a cheese sauce dressing with cajun spices topped off with croutons and baked.

Time for a tall cold one... later bigz

Good wet and disgusting afternoon everyone! When will it SNOW!!!!! I mean geez 30 more days till Christmas and no White [stuff]?!?!?! What is up with that? IF I wanted a Somewhat Green Christmas I'd visit the Fam in Cali again!!

So, I'm thinking to add a few more hens to the coop in the Spring. I've decided that I want some more egg and chicken color variations. I've decided I want to get another Americana/Araucana, some form of a white egg layer, and I am thinking of a Dorking from the tinted egg family. I think maybe some Buff Orps and an Australorp. Or maybe a Speckled Sussex.
I'm also going to try incubating some Icelandic Chickens again. I tried right before I left for Cali but I had no luck on the hatch. DH brought home so eggs as a "surprise"! The chicks developed way to fast in the hatch process. I figured that was Fates way of telling me to wait until spring.....

TO-Nice table spread! That was one nice looking bird! My dogs are fed at 4. They got used to the time change way to fast. At 3:45 they start getting all tail waggily and playfull. If I don't go rushing into the kitchen to start moving food bowls around and opening the appropriate dog food cupboards and containers, then they progressively get more and more pest-y until in complete desperation and starvation they are forced to "send in" Grace. She uses her barking capabilities to bark at me in a very demanding and Princess like manner. If that fails, they go to sleep. Odd I know but they carry on for about 15 minutes until they got to sleep. That might the their fat little bods shutting down from lack of food, but I usually comply with the Doggie Demands. It's just easier to cave then not have to get "yelled" at.

Kristi-sorry to hear about the dd'd broken arm! I hope she heals real quick!

BigZ-that rooster in the video sounds like a hen cackling to lay her egg! I think I pass.....With my luck, my Girls would think he was trying to empathize with them and kick his tail feathered rump out of the coop.

Kristi PLS give your DD a big hug from me.. so sorry that happened.. So what is the story behind it?

My friend Joan put up 4 pieces of plexi glass on the outside of the barn, and we were able to remove the plywood we normally put in the windows.. so now there is a LOT of light!!
I think either the welsumer OR one of my english marans are laying now... I hope so... useless birds!

I' sure it is a different guy.. this guy works near wausau and will be stopping here after work.. but, both of us selling RP's on the same day makes sense to me.. parallel universe ..

I hit the #4 quota for eggs already today.. 2 Sebs & 2 toulouse..
there is a Seb on the nest right now,,I will wait until tonight to set these eggs in case there might be one more..

Have Coops Will Travel.. I like that.. I could build the wall sections here and haul them to the site on my big trailer.. set them up in an hour, finish the roof and be gone..

I once designed and built an ice shack that we hauled on my jeep roof racks.. We could take it down or put it up in about ten to 15 minutes.. 2 floor sections, 8 wall sections, w/door and 3 sides had patio door glass. and a 2 section roof..

It was 8 ft x 8 ft..

WOW That's impressive !!! Jim you have more experience with more stuff !!! And at such a young age too !!!!!

Well, our Thanksgiving Dinner didn't happen until last night. Thursday I spent all day cooking the pumpkins and all that good stuff that we decided to cook yesterday instead. Then yesterday DH was scrapping the pasture all day and of course got dirt in the carb on the tractor so had to get that up and running again. So supper was postponed again. We ate around 10:45ish last night !!! Actually that is only a few hours later then we normally eat supper since his work hours are so weird !!

And believe it or not I made EVERYTHING myself !!! FIRST time in my life that I ever made Thanksgiving dinner !!!! I even made ho made gravy !!! I'm so proud. It was worth the wait !!!

DH went to get hay today and on his way home stopped at Fleet Farm, do you think he remembered the dog food ???? NO So I am headed back to get the dog food and some Bird seed/scratch that is on sale, hopefully they will still have some. He brought me some M&M's so I'm eating those now !!!

for a pick me up. Will eat leftover turkey later tonight !!!

Made some slop for all of the feathered friends yesterday. Cooked several batches of Rice, added the cooked pumpkin skins and the pumpkin guts. Added some garlic and other veggie scraps. They loved it. Happy Thanksgiving for all of them a day late too !!! Horses, goats and pony all got carrots, tons of them. Did I ever tell you that they are all spoiled.

Well, I ordered a pair of boots for DH for Christmas from Tractor Supply. So since I was in a generous mood I bought myself a Christmas present too !!! So Monday I am being shipped a Paint Silkie Rooster from Iowa !!
ya.gif

His price was right at $40 plus shipping. I have two beautiful black girls that I got in West Bend on my road trip that have been laying an egg each everyday.
They ought to make some nice babies. Keeping my fingers crossed that I will get some paints out of it. For those of you that don't know the Paint color in silkies is the newest Color. Not recognized color yet but will be one day !! Right now it is the HOT Color. Did any of you see the Lavender Sillke Pullet on the Auction. Last I checked it was going for about $230 and the auction had a bit to go yet !!!

Ok, almost done with my M&M's. Then off to the store !!!

Glad to see everyone back. Sorry to hear of the little ones broken arm !!! Hope she isn't in to much pain.

So......FT, When the Paint Silkies get recognized, how will that work? Paints will be Silkies and Pinto's are the Frizzles or Show Girls? Will there be Overo's, Tobiano's, and Tovero's? And will the solid Silkie paints be called Cropout's or Breeding Stock? And will they still be registerable as a Paint even though they are solids since they still have the Paint Gene?

Mawhahahahahahaaha!!!!!!

ETA: I'm taking my CC permit class on Dec 4 in Milton. It will cost me $60 for a 5 hour class. I asked at Gander Mtn and in my area they are charging $100 for the class. There is also a local gun store in Janesville that has been holding classes since the law was in written in and they have been charging I think $75 or $100 maybe.
My dh is going with me to "support" me even though he as a military DD214 letter. If I have it correct, if you or your dh has a DD214 then you don't need to take the class just fill out the application for the CC permit and send in a copy of the DD214.

Hello again. Glad to see everyone had a good Turkey Day. Mine was nice and filling. We traveled this year to my mom's and DH's mom's house. Busy, but the company was nice. Met my mom later that night at Wally world and waited in line with her until 12. I had to work on Friday, but she kept going onto other stores. Called me when i was driving into work and told me she just got home! She is crazy! I did my shopping today. We also go our christmas tree today too. I love this time of year. Well Im off to do chores. Have a great night everyone!

Just a quick check-in. Had a very filling and full Thanksgiving - 3 days of DH's extended family and big meals. Lots of visiting with people we rarely see, a good time but ready for some 'alone' time now.

One of my Jaerhon hens was dead in the coop tonight when we got home. She might have run into the wall and broke her neck, I'm not sure but really sad to find her. Now I'm down to 2 adults and 4 pullet chicks, plus many roos (of course.) Drat drat drat!

Glad to read of good meals and successful hunts, sorry about mishaps, and not at all surprised to see Jim's bators up and running again, lol. And oh so happy with the Packers! G'night all!
