,,,,, sounds like everyone had a nice thanksgiving. That's good.

After dinner I dug some post holes for a screened in area so the chickens could go outside in the winter a bit. I bought some more straw the other day and need to patch a few holes in coop and will be ready for winter,,,,when it gets here. I also am wondering when the snow will come.

My one rooster that had a sour crop (sic) wasnt doing any better so I culled him and did an autopsy. He had a mass in his intestine and the tissue was dead around the mass. Basically his intestines were shot. The mass looked "meaty" so could have been worms from when I wormed him. I would have to get a lab to analyze it to be sure. Well anywho from now on I will be having a strict worming schedule and worm any chikcens I get from other sources.

Later I saw one of my roosters pick up a piece of fiberglass insulation and gobble it down before I could get to him.

CRipES!!!

DS30 taking care of chickens is hilarious(sp?). He is so worried about them,,,," do they have enough food?, space?, water?. " haha kinda cute. I am leaving La Crosse today later so wont be back on BYC till December.

My Granddaughters (three of them)went deer hunting this year with their dad. One of them watched some deer but said they were too pretty to shoot. hmm. My DD32 and SIL did get at least 2 deer packaged for their use this year. Their side of the family had five deer they were cleaning thanksgiving day, so I think I heard them right when they said SIL had 2 of them. For a family of seven they really can go through a lot of food.

kristip sorry to hear about your daughter with the broken arm. And Amy sorry to hear about your hen.

Hope everyone has a good week next week till I CUagain.

Good Windy Morning All! kris the only thing good about the DD breaking her arm is that she's young and will heal fast. Poor kid! Amy sorry to hear about your hen!

MLH that's interesting about the DD214. How much does the permit cost and how long is it good for? I might look into that, don't really need it but might be handy to have. Just wonder how intrusive Big Brother will be. Jim I too built a folding shack. It fit in the back of my hatchback Chevy Nova. 4x8 but had to use a tarp for the roof, ran out of stackin space. Threw on a set of snow tires and could go anywhere I wanted with all the weight in the back.

Pretty quiet day planned today think making a bunch of breakfast burrito's will be the highlight.

Tiki, I've had chickens die from eating fiberglass insulation. Keep an eye on that rooster. Here's the latest picture of the silkie mix I got from you. His little hen buddy sure is friendly and makes the weirdest sounds. I will definitely be keeping the both of them. They cannot be separated.

I think I finally found someone to take one of these cochin roosters. They are horrible little things. My hens don't even want to come out of the coop. They chase and chase and don't give up. Also, one of my Iowa Blue x Dorking roosters has turned out to be quite stunning. I refuse to butcher him. If anyone is interested PM me. Keep in mind, he's only a few months old. He has some filling out to do yet. He'll just keep getting prettier.

good morning, windy, cold damp, eels llike snow.. had a few snow "pellets" on the cover of the feed can..

according to a conversation I heard yesterday, you do not have to takea course of any kind for C&C...Initially yes, but they cancelled it.. The conversation in a nut shell: you have to take a safety course to carry a gun into a woods where there is nobody for a mile, but you can carry a gun into any crowded store without any training at all.. I don't know what the rules are.. I don't plan on C&C.. there are going to be some nasty "accidents" in the near future.. then the gun control people will get their laws passed with ease.. IMHO

Yes, I am concerned somewhat about cross breed eggs from the geese, only for the first few eggs.. Now all the geese have paired off and staying more or less away from each other..

I have 5 eggs to set; brings the total to 24.. the quail in one pen are laying too.. I am not doing anything with their eggs..

Tiki, the snow will come way too early and stay way too long..

I pulled up 11 brussel sprout plants and tossed them into the back of the Blazer.. man o man, do they give off a pungent odor in that confined space.. we will be processing them today.. should get a couple of pint bags from each plant, maybe more.. these are the best we have ever grown.. I got all my plants from an Amish greenhouse near Athens this year.. Going there again next spring..

cuppa is cold,, going to warm it up.. c u later.....

Oooh oooh, I know the answer to that one. You still have to have training, but they nixed the '4-hr' stipulation. So basically left it wide open and confused a bunch of people in the process.

Morning all!!
Well, we got a few moments of snow type stuff-Yeah! and then back to rain-Bummer....

Jim-from what I understand, people who want a C&C still have to take a safety course but the DOJ (?) has eliminated some portions of the training requirements for the permit.

DrH-The DD214 or the DD256 are all you need to apply for a C&C and it's good for 5 years from the date if issue. If you have taken a hunter education program in WI or a fire arm safety or training class from another state and have your certificate from that class, or if you have an unrevoked C&C from another state, then you don't have to take the safety class here.
The Permits are $50. Here is the link to the info if your wanting more info:

Amy-sorry to heard about the Jaerhon hen. Poor dear!

BBC-can't wait to see a pic of the rooster. He sounds quite lovely.

Well, the Girls are in fine form this morning, although rather complain-y. No eggs yet, but they had a late night with their little "sun" lamps on. DH had some chest pains and he mentioned it to me. So I drove him to the ER since his Dad died at 52 from a heart attack. Luckily, DH checked out just fine and they gave him some IV pain killers. That helped and the Doc thought that he might have strained a muscle. Dh have to check in with his regular doc and get a stress test done, but all in all his EKG and blood work was good. Better safe then sorry!
Anyway, the Girls had fun doing chicken like stuff way past their normal bed time and I interupted (sp) many a dust bath when I went to turn off the "sun"! Being the good Mom that I was, I placed each Girl on her perch before I left the Coop.

Not much planned here today. I have some chores to do but mostly I don't have any grand plans! Have a terrific day everyone!

So if they get to be close to purebred silkies with the paint coloring will they be called Silk-aints!! ( a play on words for Pintabian)

Oh Amy.. I am so sorry to hear that, I have my 5 hens, and the two young ones you sent.. Want me to get you some chicks OR eggs this next year? Let me know

Good morning! I slept (stayed in bed) until 10:00 today...just have no energy...this time of year drains me I guess! DD's are back from Florida with DH's Christmas present (50" plasma tv from my brother in FL) very anticlimactic. I guess I expected more...maybe at least a hug?

Sorry to hear of broken bones and birdie deaths...how did she break her arm anyhow? Dont think I read it...so nice to hear news from all the folks we have been missing lately! Jim--I agree with you about the C&C stuff. I for one will be keeping to myself...dont want to go anywhere with DH driving---he might pi$$ somebody off and end up getting us shot at!
I am expecting another Hmong man and his family at noon. They want 10 ducks. My new system is working great. Now they all go into a big pen to eat and I can get the ones I want into a smaller pen and then catch them up easily (read: without getting too muddy) It took less than a half hour to get the last 10 caught and bagged! Now that is worth it...this is the original guy that came years ago. I am glad he has told his family!
Well I suppose I better go out and start moving them around...I like to be ready cause this is one guy that is never late!
Terri O--hoping for a sunnier day (and mood) for tomorrow! Have a fantastic day!

Packerless Sunday All.... Prolly gonna throw in the hunting towel for today. Awful windy for sure.

The $50 for the permit is good for 3 years.

The cheapest training you can get is the hunters safety course. That will run you $10. The delay for a class would be the problem with that. You would need to take the online course, print all the quizes and then attend a class for the balance of the training. Just the on-line part prolly takes 10 hrs. I have the link if anyone wants it.

NRA Certifed classes are given at the Shawano Gun Club for $65. That class runs about 3 hours and the way to go in my area. One morning...done deal....send the printed form off the DOJ site with $50 and you are good to go!

Nice pics BBP, thanks for sharing.

Did you mention how the arm got broken Kris? Did it make a cracking sound or poke through the skin?

We need a new TV bad. When we do finally get a new one we are gonna blast the old one with our pistols til it's really really dead! It's gonna go to the recycle center in pieces....

Later ... bigz

Hey Bigz if you care to send me that site I'd appreciate it !! Do they offer the hunter safety classes on a regular basis or just before hunting season?

Ya, it will be a bit scary not knowing who is carrying. And you wouldn't want to be in the line of fire at your local wally world !!!
At least it will be legal to carry, the criminals are already carrying I would guess ??

Now that I don't have PMS attacks I think I'll be ok !!!
lau.gif
I went to see an Oprah show in IL years ago and the show was about Road Rage, guy shot and killed a guy who walked up to his car. All started because the guy in the front was stopped to long at a stop light or something like that !!! They guy who shot the other guy to death said he had the gun inbetween the car seats because he had dropped his girlfriend off at the airport in not the best part of town.

I'd be a bit more concerned in the bigger cities, especially Milw, Racine, etc with the C&C. There are alot of idiots out there, now they will be armed idiots !! Scary part is people don't always make good judgement calls. Another thing I"d be worried about is being jumped for my gun (which I don't have yet) DH said I should get a revolver. I have one of my Dads but it is only a 22. Remember years ago going with him to the sand pits up north and shooting !!! He was a good shot. Iwasn't to bad but didn't shoot very often. Shoot, now this makes me want to go shooting !!! I miss Skeet Shooting. I have a beautiful gun too !!! Kinda stopped going after I got the horses !!! Only so much Money !!!!
th.gif

Everytime I go get chicken food I go past a gravel pit where I see they shoot. I've meant to bring them a stack of targets to shoot at. Don't ask !!

Anyway, DH isn't feeling well today, maybe my home cooked turkey ??? I feel fine though. Think he just maybe ate to much of it. I see he finished off all the stuffing this morning !!!

Gloomy rainy day. So much for outside fun !!!
