be very careful on the timing of treats for your wild rooster.. If you try to calm him down by giving him treats, he might associate his bad behavior with the treats and act up every time he wants treats..

I can't tell you anything about how to tame a mean rooster.. I never had such a problem.. once in awhile I had geese that would make gestures.. I just grabbed them by the neck, just behind the head.. then I would lead them around the yard for a few minutes.. one treatment was usually enough..

AAAARRRRRRHHHHHGGGGGG!!!!!!!

I just accidentally killed one of my Ameracauna hens! I feel so bad!

I set up a breeding area in the "feed room" this afternoon. I put 3 hens in there and just went to catch George off the roost and put him in.... I found the hen caught in the slats between the room and the coop ... dead! D@MN! D@MN! D@MN! Had one caught there before (she didn't die) and didn't fix it!

Anyway...

Guineas....I got 5 keets from Jim at the last bash (June) and 5 chicks. I raised them together and had them all in a covered run until (I think) late Aug. Then transferred the whole group to the big coop. They stuck with the chicks they grew up with and always returned to the coop with the chickens after free ranging. But They are not very bright... they will fly over a fence and not figure out how to get back, if they loose track or their friends they may call out... but if no one comes for them they could be "stuck" in a few foot square area. I have a rut where there is a fenced in corner of our yard where they keep getting "stuck".

However, I can always tell ( the summer) when one of the cats leavs the yard.... it's the only time any of the animals gets ticks. Some days guineas can drive you nuts... others, they are a really cool bird to have! I haven't lost any of the 5 yet, but lost chickens to a hawk and an owl. But then, I may have "weird ones" too. ... They have been laying all winter

All, in all I would listen to Jim... he's had the most and the longest.

Apyl... Hope you don't loose anymore chicks! Wow that's too many to loose.

WCc... cool eggs! I hope to hatch a green egg layer this year.

Wow! Been crochetting and sewing and now its 4 am. Wow kinda late! tehe cindlady sorry about your hen, poor thing. I hate that when that happens. Guineas lost in a dirch, thats a new one. LOL

Nice eggs WCC. I see you have some torpedo eggs. One of my ameraucanas lays torpedo eggs, goofy girl. I love the welsumner eggs.

Do you think the barbed rocks are prickly? They do seem a bit expensive. Maybe the

ruster is a champ.

Hope things go better for people that were having a bad day yesterday. H&R I hope your mom is doing better. And FT I hope your AE is getting better. And everybody elses family members too. I am getting old and cant remember everything.

Ang just pretend your real brave and ignore Wally for a couple a days (but keep one eye on him at all times) LOL Maybe he will be so confused he wont know what to do. LOL Maybe he has cabin fever. When my silkies get aggressive it is like a warm fluffy basketball bouncing on my leg and feels kinda nice and snuggly. I didnt even realise they were doing anything till someone told me "Dont let them do that" Hu Things will be better soon. Hope things are going better with your daughter too. Night all.

yea tiki... happens to me all the time! Get going on something and loose track of time,,, especially when it's late!.... So, what ya makin'?
The worse part is the ditch is a rut of their own making! They get "trapped" in that area so often they wore it down! As many times as I showed them how to get out... they still get stuck!


I have 11 roosters.... 3 of them started to get aggressive.... I did kinda' a combination of things... mostly, when they challenged, or pecked on me... I turned on them... not hit or kicked, but got real "big and loud" on them and even crowed and/or chased them. Other times I pick them up/ grab them and pet and talk to them. Actually, since I intend to butcher most of them... they are a little too friendly!

Grrr.... almost 5!.... must sleep!

Good Morning Everyone! Hey you can't fix em all Angie. But the only one I couldn't fix was Buster the SLW roo. He was just plain mad dog mean. Think gentics play a roll sometimes. The good thing about him was that he was heavy enough to hear him comin from behind. Thump Thump Thump. He was a back biter and he was delishious! Cind I can just see you running around the yard crowing and flapping your arms

The new paint is in a plastic can. WCc cool lookin eggs! So many of the chicks are cool lookin that it's going to be hard to get rid of some of the roo's. Have a couple of New Hamps in there, have some mutts in there too but some have muffs and some have crests.

L made huge batches of salsa and spagetti sauce yesterday so will can those up today. Guess tomorrow will be a good day to get back on the ladder. Must be about 2" of new snow out there this morning. Looked at the long range everything it's gonna melt by the end of next week. So much good advise from good people! All I can do is pass on what my experiences have been and my advise isn't always correct. You just have to do what you think is best. So much more but as usual it's gone.

I do not care what the weather looks like outside; Spring has sprung! The birds are singing like crazy out there!

No eggs yet from the Calls though.

So adding two more male Budgies to my Aviary has caused the girls to become a bit hormonal! We have had WWF fights with the girls! The other night two of them were rolling around the bottom of the Aviary attacking each other; it was so bad they were making each other bloody (of course it does not help that they are sisters too)! It was bad enough that I had to get out my styptic pencil to stop the bleeding (one had a mild chest wound) With those birds being so small, just a drop of blood is a lot for them to lose.

Today I am going to spend a day with my girls in Oshkosh. The Oshkosh Museum is having the last day of their Bling exhibit (fashion), and across the street the Paine is having their annual Flower show. I figure after all of that we can hit the outlet mall.

• I have a feeling that there may not be a good answer to this question. I mentioned earlier that of my three hens two have been picked over pretty good by the third. They look horrible. I tried blukote and saddles, but she just picks elsewhere. They are all still laying, but is the eventual outcome that the two will die. If i get a couple new chickens, will the third (stella) just start picking on them two. Is the best answer to just get rid of stella?
  
  I would like to add two new pullets. I need quiet birds. Does anyone have orpingtons or austrlops or any other pretty birds that are good layers that hey are willing to part with. I live in the Holy Hill area.
