Was he really picking his head up the first day?! Strong boy! You have darling kids. I loveloveloved my homebirth with our 2nd. Of course it hurts, but when you're prepared mentally, that makes a huge positive impact. I so wish we had done the same with our oldest.

Thanks

Yep, he really did pick up his head right away! He still is such a strong boy. Skinny little thing, but he sure is strong and a hard worker!

I loved our homebirths and can't even imagine trying to do that in a hospital! My more recent two were waterbirths as well and so peaceful and almost serene. I'm in the process of becoming a natural childbirth educator as well as a La Leche League Leader. Both of which I should complete requirements for this summer. I want to support and encourage others as much as possible!

Hey folks,

Rough week at work, got accused of stealing the chicks we hatched, so I made a quick call and got them back to the school. Apparently though I made all the arrangements for the hatch and was asked to find homes for the peeps, I was a lying thief. When I had found homes and placed the peeps the teacher disagreed and claimed they were school property. I got called into the principal's office and was then accused of stealing, lying and benefiting from a school project.

By this morning I had the peeps back in the classroom and now have to try and fix my reputation in the school because of this teacher. Really angry and frustrated that I helped so much.

On the good side of things, I am the proud owner of 3 blue maran peeps! I picked them up on Tuesday and they are awesome!!! I am so excited!!! I was also able to sell all 3 of my Seramas at a profit of 1000%!!! They ate 8 gals of feed during their time here, I made money on the sale even after expenses and will not have house chickens any more!!!

I am getting some younger mixed pullets ready for sale and a couple older hens will go to the swap next weekend. Hopefully I will be able to have 12 hens in the coop laying by the time winter rolls around.

Thanks for letting me rant...

The main reason I got on here was not to rant, but to ask if anyone had an older Peahen that needed a retirement home? I am willing to pick it up. The Academy, not the school, is looking for one.

Thanks,
KEN

Malinois are the smartest dogs I have ever seen... she is my search and rescue dog, and nationally certified in 3 disciplines... cadaver, air scent (live human find).
BUT... I will tell you right now, they have tons of energy, and unless you can work them daily to burn that off, they will turn that energy into doing something (which could end up being destructive) Also very high prey drive, she does NOT go out without me around the birds, or she will kill everyone of them... She does get along with my 3 small dogs famously, and is very patient and careful with them... she is 9 years old, now and finally starting to settle down a bit! This is at a cadaver certification for LETS, which is Law Enforcement Training Specialist certification at Camp Atterbury army base in Indiana.

amberflea I see you have a malinois! I love those dogs. Wanted to get one but haven't yet. How are they for training?

CC,
I just emailed him, he responded to me, I put in an order for a dozen or so eggs for hatching. I will tell him to that he should expect one from you too! If I or TO can get them, do you want to meet? Let me know, he only has about "3-6 hens"... so is it 3 or 6 ... LOL I kinda wonder.

Thanks Carol! Yes, we could meet somewhere. I only need 6 (or 7) eggs to fill my bator, then I was going to give the other 6 to Bf4. That's weird, 3 to 6 hens? How do you not know how many hens you have when you have so few? Or maybe I don't want to know? Hmmm......... Good luck at the consignment sale. I hope you get that coop!

I was thinking the same thing as Jim: if you bury that tank, FT, how are you going to clean it? Wouldn't you just be better off with a kiddie pool?
hu.gif
Use the tank for a brooder? For some lavs maybe????

and to the Cheesehead thread, Sam!

DrH, got your PM. Thanks. DH wants to know what kind of mower you looking for? Got one all picked out already? Funny story about Bob. Had to forward it on to DH. We know all too well about the ways of kitties.

BL4, you were the one who made those boozed cherries, right? Did you just fill the jars with cherries & pour straight booze over them? Or? IF we don't get a freeze, I think I'm going to have a bumper crop of plums and possibly cherries too, so I'm trying to make a list of all the things I am going to attempt to do with them. Notice I said attempt.

Well, sounds like the washer is done. Back to more exciting laundry. Bbl!

Sorry to hear this Ken! Usually once the chicks hatch the teachers are glad to have them leave to good homes- at least that is what I am use to hearing. Hopefully the teacher will cool down and thing will be okay again

they are his favorite! We have 2 trees planted and hopefully they will both make it this year- we ended up replacing the one last year again.... so that means longer till we get fruit. Had a client who offered us her cherry tree from the backyard- the thing was full sized and she didn't understand that we couldn't move it, she didn't use the cherries but told us to come and pick them- we did! She sold the house the next year so no more cherries

Good afternoon--lunch went over well. Only complaint was that the pork chops were too big! (oh and one guy said that he would have to come back and chew it tomorrow...yeah, bring a blender buddy!) Sorry

Ken that really bites! You did the work and got the eggs right? Then you SHOULD get the chicks...it was the learning experience that the teachers were after right? Sorry you are having trouble.

Really beautiful coops! That gave me a good idea (I think) when I put the window in the side of my machine shed (it is way too dark in there) I am going to put a flower box under it like yours...way too high up for the chickens to eat the flowers! Be nice to dress up that side of the shed!

Well, just came om here to find a recipe...LOL--had to check in with my peeps first! Later--Terri O
