I've been busy getting ready for my road trip down to Milwaukee tomorrow for a doctor appointment for myself then going to my nephew's 18Th birthday party on Saturday in Union Grove. He's going to school in Oshkosh in the fall. That'll give me an excuse to a road trip so I can drop in and see him.
Well, better get to bed, have to be in Milwaukee at 3:15pm, Sounds like I'll leave here around 10am.

So if you don't hear from me it's not because I given up on you all !!!! It means I'm without Internet connection and am going through withdrawals !!!! lol

Good Morning Everybody! Dan I hate haggling! When I buy or sell something I want or give the honest price. CC Have been noticing for a couple of weeks that the kids have been going to bed early. Maybe they know something we don't. Jim are you going to put the new shaft in and keep the old one for a spare? FT hope you have a safe trip! Agree with the nice rain yesterday, inch and 3/10ths here. Found out yesterday after organizing the freezers that we have enough carrots in there for 2 years. No wonder scubbing them was getting to me. Put up a bag of beans and 2 bags of broc. Too bad we had enough to eat for supper the smell of the broc was driving me nuts! er. Making a quadruple batch of egg noodles for the fam reunion on Sun. And making 4 pies tomorrow. And now for the whacko news. I guess Weds. 2 sheriffs deputies went back over there and he came to the door with a rifle again. At 2 AM on Thurs. the Wood Co. swat team removed him from the premises. Should be able to find out today what the charges are. The paper said that on Tues. they responded to a report of a man acting erratically and greating people at his door with a gun.

Oodles of noodles comin up!

Good morning folks! The flies in this house are driving me MAD! I have to buy more fly tape today. I wonder if it is because of the weather that my fly predators arent working so hot this year? We dont really have many outside but sheesh...I hate a fly in the house--especially when it wont leave me alone! Of course it doesnt help that the place around the air conditioner is wide open! I finally put some styro that I cut to size in the opening. DH was supposed to make somehting for it a month ago...the cats were starting to get out every night so I figured I should cobble something for the opening...of course there is a gorgeous NOrthern breeze today and I can only feel it coming through the bottom where there is still a gap. Hate to say it but it smells like FALL!

I LOVE fall...but then we all know what follows!

Cooking today at The Pines. I swear the woman that is the head cook (and submits my menues) knows NOTHING at all about cooking! I wrote down chicken DIVAN and she submitted chicken DINNER! NOw the old people will be all confused again. Last week it was CHicken Almond Din and she wrote dinner again! I think I am going to go with my original plan and submit them myself!Let me tell you I am this [] close to quitting. Her snotty notes wreck my Friday each week!

I hope the owls dont get your guinea BigFam! Unfortunately once they find out that they can stay out in the trees they all start to do it. That is how I went from 13 to 6 over the winter and spring! Any wouldnt you know that all the guinea nests did not hatch this year! I managed ONE in the incubator in the foolish hatch and three nests were duds. Two with guineas on and one under a chicken. I just found one the other day and two days later she gave up and I didnt realize it until 2 days later...I havent gotten under there to get the eggs out yet. I am wondering if the boys just arent doing their job?
In other incubator news I think I cooked my quail eggs...that dam^ thing shot up to 103.2 after three days of staying just perfect at 99.7! I turned it just a hair and it dropped to 94.5 so I guess they are done for...I might float them and see if I have any movement...I am thinking they are done and I need to start over. GOod thing I thought about this happening and didnt butcher all the adults yet! MLH--the Bobs still arent laying...I am considering letting some of the out to free-range. One or two have gotten out and they hang around pretty good untill I can g=catch them and put them back in. I have to make one of those one way doors for them I guess. THe roos are starting to crow...what an odd sound for sure! SO loud for such a little bird.

Guess I'd better stop rambling and get out to feed before heading into town. I am thinnking I should have dressed in long pants this morning!
Have a fantastic day! Terri O--who cant wait to get to work so she can get a bad attitude!

Well the guinea is fine. But it was so stupid last night and trying to get in the run.. Through the fence. She was calling to the to other 3 guineas, but couldn't figure out how to go through THE DOOR! So apparently she flew up on the roof somewhere the kids told me. But this morning the dumb A was in the run. But then she's trying to get away from me through the fence again  stupid stupid stupid. I hope they actually do eat bugs and ticks. Because UGLY and stupid is not my idea of a great combination.

I now have moved all large fowl chickens into the big coop. The Icelandics were finally moved in. But the silkies are still in the basement. They have to get out into the mini coop in the backyard. I have to clean it out first.

I have moved the ducks pools and crate out of the backyard. I plan on moving it a bit closer and closer to the coop until I can get them in there too. That's the plan... But well see how it works.

I've been lurking for the past week or so, because I'm on vacation! Well, kind of. I'm down on a horse/texas longhorn farm in indiana. Headed home tonight. Have my lovely sister chickensitting. Everything up there is going good, from what I heard in least. The kittens are opening their eyes now, our SLW roos are starting to fight. Trying to find a home for them at the moment. Don't even have the slightest idea how to butcher myself. Heard some of you guys got some rain up there! How are the bean crops looking? I think it's probably too late for the corn.

bf4me- I'm glad Stupid is alive! (I think?)

CC-I'm hoping she is a late bloomer cause she is a sweetie. Now if it were Stella I wouldn't have to think twice about the soup pot.

Had to work in the coop this morning, the girls were in need of fresh water and food. It is getting really dusty inside the run. Do you guys suggest watering it down? I am using the deep litter method, so there is a dirt floor. Otherwise, I could just add grass or pine shavings, etc.

Off to work

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!
Have a wonderful crisp morning up here. Sooooo refreshing! Just hope it doesn't get too crisp tonight. Unfortunately, altho it doesn't look it, if you look on a topographical map you can tell we are located at the bottom of an old river valley that once upon an ice age was a lake bed (thus all the sandy soil and our "back 40" barely above water) which puts us in a cold pocket within a cold zone which, again unfortunately, means we often get frost when nobody else up here does, including those much further north, sigh. All that said, if the dewpoint gets anywhere near the high 30's tonight with the clear skies, we could at least get tipped. I have dealt with this so many years, you would be surprised what I have been able to get crops thru. Learned a lot of practical tips that I have been able to share with other master gardeners that never appeared in our textbooks. My broody momma is all snug in her little box/cage in a very well insulated coop so I say to Mother Nature, "are you ready to rumble?"

DR. HAHA~I totally agree with you. I hate haggling. If I feel someone is asking a fair price, I'm good. If not, I walk away. I sell the same way.

FT~have a safe trip!

Now, my cup is empty so it's outside to pick toms, check on the girls and help hubby re-fill our water tank and haul it back over to the neighbors. Their pump went out on Tuesday and he works in Oshkosh all week stranding his wife with a bunch of animals and no water. He couldn't get off to come home so we're taking care of things until he comes home tonight. Mentioned before my hubby is an experienced well driller and his son (and most of that side of the family) is still in the biz so we got it covered. Neighbor is picking up the new pump (and tank because the one now in there probably had the old famhouse built around it it's so old!) and bringing it home with him. Looks like the "boys" will get to play @ guy stuff all day tomorrow. SHOPPING!

Mooooorning ALLLL!!!
Whoooo Yhooooo!!!! Love this cooler weather!!!!!

Although I heard on the radio next Wed was supposed to be 86*. Yuck...But then it goes back down to more livable weather. MY MIL yesterday said it was hot in Cali. I was not sympathetic in the least.....

Ben is gone. Gave him his meal worm treat and DH took him in his carrier to go to his new home. I'm gonna miss him. He is an excellent roo. But it's better for him and less of a worry for us.

Got some more blueberries at the market so I'm going to make some more jam. I wanted to make some more peach jam but the peaches are expensive and not very good.

The chickerdoodles are good and the rabbits are happy. The rabbits sure like the basement. Soon they will be going back outside for the winter. I need to start planning how I'm going to divide up space in the barn/coop/garage.

Dan-sorry your deal fell through. Good for you for sticking to your guns though. I have haggling too. I cave way to easily.

Kristi-When I was growing up, I had a Christmas themed b-day party. Sucked but there you have it! Anyway, for years, up until my 16th birthday, my mom baked sugar cookies and all the kids got to decorate their own cookies and take some home. Boy and girls alike. My Dad would steal all the Red Hots so Mom bought extra! Needless to say, I had a popular party! Dad was in charge of the games. We had the egg and spoon game, and also the roll a frozen potato with your nose race. I hated that one. We did pin the tail on the donkey (boring by today's standard!) and that is all I can remember. Well, we also decorated the Christmas tree but you won't be doing that! LOL!! I like the cup cake idea you are doing. Are the boys going to do that one too? I know they make sports and boy theme sprinkles...

Well, I have to go check the laundry. Had a dog hork up on my new comforter..ugh..now I have to wash all the bedding...Ugh!! Oh well, good day for it! Nice and coooool.....

Morning All!
I am cleaning chicken stalls today, and getting feed from F&F. Apparently prices are skyrocketing for poultry feed. I stopped at our local farmers co-op to get some mash, it was 14 dollars, its usually about 3 bucks less....
The Nutrena/Purina feeds ( I know but I am lumping the "big" brands into one category) were 16 or more, organic is 22-24 bucks a 50lb bag

So now I am gonna try to stock up MORE!
Gotta find a neat b-day present for DH, his big day is on sunday, we are riding tomorrow afternnoon when I get off work.
Well off to clean things, buy things.. and just things...
LOL
