BabyLady: I guess the thing it comes down to with my DD13 is-at what age does it become her responsibility and not the schools? On one hand I have Dr/family saying she has to learn to be more responsible about this, on the other hand have a diff Dr and other family stating that shes not an adult and medical issues are an adults responsibility. So hoping to research what childrens hospital and jdrf have listed out for responsibilities for what ages with the whole diabetes management so I have some facts to bring to the table whenever this "plan" is written up with the school.

I am back,, not going to let you people get 6 pages ahead of me again..

thanks for the pics of the truck.. Now I know what to watch out for when I am on the highway..

13 yrs old ? old enough to at least remind adults to do what they are supposed to do.. It has nothing to do with legal age.. It is her health and she is old enough to take on some responsibility.

13 year olds are babysitting,.. that is some sort of responsible job..

DrH, the cable is only about 30 inches long.. slight curve to the carb.. I am now wondering if it isn't the carb itself freezing up.. have to check that aspect out.. I WD'd it before I slipped the tubing over it.. It is not beneath my dignity to buy a new cable and start all over..

I feel sorry for the people working at the schools. There a so many kids with food allergies, diabetes, autism, adhd, etc. And they have to be on top of who gets what medications, who gets special times to do certain things, who can't go near certain foods. It would be too much of a responsibility for me for sure. Especially with elementary kids.

I got my patronage check from the co-op today. Apparently, I spent over $4,000 on feeding and caring for my pets, wild birds and deer this year. That's scary. In addition to that I spent an $700 on organic scratch for my chickens and $1300 on hay. It really puts things in perspective. Maybe I need to cut down on the amount of critters I feed. $6,000 could take me on a pretty good vacation every year.

Just watched the President crying while talking with the nation about the horrible events in CT. My heart is aching for those children and teachers and their families. Be sure to hug and kiss your babies tonight.

Just makes me sick. Home schooling looks better all the time. What kind of evil monster takes out kindergarteners. If you're going to self destruct, how about starting with yourself. Kissing my babies and thinking of those poor families who kissed their child off to school this morning, to end in tragedy.

Jim,

Yeah, thanks for the info. Impossible to find on google...favorite...incubator? You get everything under the sun. Really was more interested in picking through the auction. Mom used to take me to estate sales as a kid, thought about taking one of the boys, but a bad weekend for it. If there happened to have been chicken stuff at the sale, alls the better. Love to poke around.

On a different note, looking at this cute little coop for a breeding pen for this spring.

this is a real nice looking set-up.. One flaw I see is the clean out floor tray.. for me it would not work because I would have so much bedding in there, that the drawer could not pull out..

It would be OK for warm weather use, but in winter, you need to put bedding on the floor to keep the cold wind from blowing up into the house..

you dould still use it like that in the winter, but you would have to shovel the bedding out through the open door..

how much $$$are they asking for it ?

at first glance, that "key" sticking out the front looked like what we (us really old people) used to use to open coffee cans.. but I assume it is the handle to open the pop door inside the run.

Hurley...I saw that coop an thought it was super cute....actually posted it on Facebook since I know two friends and a mother in law who are thinking of adding backyard chickens. Would love it for my new speckled Sussex, trio or the silkies....but no go with the hubby for right now. We just added the shed on.
Everyone hug those kids a little extra tonight.

They're asking $150 for it, which I think is reasonable if I don't have to build it, just assemble it. Yes, Jim, you and I had the same first thought. In the winter I'll just cover the floor and fill it with shavings. In the summer I'll probably leave the wire bottom in for ventilation. I just think it has character and will be perfect for separating out a breeding group.

Have been googling Muscovy pics and info and I think I'm in love. Definitely am going to need some of those beauties. Didn't realize they were mosquito hunters, now they really have my heart. ;)

Now, where did TO disappear to? Think I NEED some eggs. LOL

I have that exact coop. It is VERY flimsy. Very shoddy workmanship. If you want to move it around to get fresh grass underneath, it's pretty heavy, and splinters easily.
