Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning all! Very wet (and muddy) here..."starting to look a lot like spring time..." Sing it now! We found a few dandelions the other day while out and about! Shoulda picked them for the torts!
Got the meatie pen cleaned out and revamped yesterday. Peg brought over an old chicken feeder that she found on her farm. It took a little bit for them to figure out how to eat out of it but once they figured it out it was fine. My gutter person is looking to see if he has some short sections around. Then I will put ends on them and legs and a piece of bent cattle panel. It will be sturdier than this one I have and also have bigger openings for their heads. I would hate to have one get stuck in there! I liked the plastic ones too but I would have had to order several!

I agree with you about FB BL4! That is all anyone is talking about. I dont usually say too much there but it is fun to see what others are doing (sometimes!) Others, just WAAAY too much information! I hope your bathroom turns out just like you want it! I need to replace the caulk around my kitchen sink. It doesnt last so long when you are constantly wiping and scrubbing around there!

Carol you can be the chicken retirement home...that is kind of like it is here too though. They just keep living until they die. I dont often sell a non layer. Although I did one year and it was really nice not to have to feed all the freeloaders all winter. I think most of mine do lay...some not so well though!

Speaking of Cuckoo Marans...IF you have a roo ODrH I would be Oh so happy to trade duck eggs for Him! One of the boys I got from you is still with me...but he doesnt seem to be able to walk very well. He eats and drinks but his legs are giving out. He is such a pretty bird...On the duck egg front...I picked up 5 yesterday from 4 nests. Then a darn Rooster in the barn spilled the bucket when he crashed into it...broke all the eggs in the bucket except for 2 duck and 3 chicken! Man

was I mad! If I could have caught him he woulda been dinner! So I am saving eggs for you if you would like them ODrH.

Good luck to L in her surgery...Maybe I should say good luck to the surgeon? What did you mean that her "gust are floating around" inside? They forgot to attach them? Maybe they can do that while inside? ANyway...speedy recovery for her!

I know I had something else to say....CRS bif time I guess...oh well I think I have babbled enough anyhow! So you people have a fantastic time wasting 3 hours of your lives this afternoon OK? I think I am going to put a railing on my porch steps!

Hi All.

Re: My DD13 and diabetes-Is she old enough to be ABLE to manager her diabetes? Absolutely. When I trust my daughters care into a school system do I expect that they will attempt to provide her with the medical care she needs? Absolutely. The problem comes from a scatter brained 13 yr old (she gets it naturally from me) who already has so many extra responsibilities with managing her diabetes, eating GF, along with normal school/home responsibilities-that I expect the school to A) let me know if shes not testing as she should B) remind her to test as needed. When I lived in the cities, they had a plan in place, paired diabetic students up with someone, allowed to leave 5 mins early for lunch and were required to check into the nurses office to test and record BGs each day. If they didnt, they contacted teacher/student. The school nurses sole responsibility is to concentrate on students with medical special needs, food allergies, medications, and ill children.

y DD13 had her final booster basketball tounament yesterday and they played for championship!! Came in 2nd-it was pretty exciting!

My DD13 and I want to make gluten free cut out xmas cookies and each year we try a different recipes-still havent found out that cuts out easily, tastes good and isnt tough-Anyone have any recipes to share?

Still sickened by the school shooting-heart and prayers go out to the parents. And reminds me how every moment with my kids is one to savor! (Mel/Babylady -I held it together with all the reports, news stories, etc until I read your FB comment about your time with your kids and fell apart. Went and gave my daughter a few extra hugs and kisses)

Weird game..glad it is over..I was getting emotionally involved and wanted to slap a few.

My ducks are not laying and i am delighted.

I have the chickens locked up till I get my eggs. Two of the pullets are laying in the garage and I do not want to spend the winter egg hunting.

I candled my eggs last night and found a cracked one stuck to the turner. It leaked all over and it was interesting to clean it all out. I have to many that look unfertile from my shipment. I hope it is just because it is to early to tell. The ones I set are all fertile and growing and so is the blue egg.
The English Orps are growing and growing. Two of them have passed the rest of my chickens in size and I am hoping for quite a bit more.

floating organs? I sure hope they get it all figured out and she is right as rain in no time.

My memory stinks, I was going to say something to someone and forgot.

I am making xmass cookies this week. Anyone want to co bake here and do a cookie exchange?

Terri-
The lady who lives around the corner from me , I gave her chicks earlier this year. She has the rescued paint gelding at her house, he belongs to her SIL and niece... I was there a few weeks ago, and she may either have a purebred blue cuckoo marans roo that was hatched by KristiP OR a splash cuckoo marans roo. I have talked to her about taking one back, so if you are interested all I would have to do is be there after dark OR with a net... or both.
Let me know.
Carol

TO: I don't have any more Marans, the roosters were too aggressive towards my boys so they got rehomed. My marans gals perished in the great heat die-off this summer, unfortunately. I've got 2 blue cuckoo Marans x Ameraucana hens that lay me nice Olive eggs, but that's the last of my Marans line. I've got an extra Iowa Blue rooster, but that's it unless you want a splash cuckoo Silkie rooster.

I'm up to getting 3-4 IB eggs / day from my 4 hens and 2 Olive eggs and 2 bantam Blue eggs daily now, good to have the hens back producing and they're looking good, being spoiled rotten on veggies from the juicer, BOSS, etc. to go with their feed ration.

Look forward to some eggs, happy to pay or trade for them. Maybe pick up this weekend?

Thank you all so very much for your heartfelt condolences. We really appreciate the support. You are all the best!

Casie, what kind of orp eggs did you set?

Judge, were you asking about the pics I posted? They are gold laced orpingtons. Black stars should be all or mostly black, I would think.

Cind, so sorry to hear about your hen, and congrats on finding the last kitten a home. She sure was a lil cutie!

DrH, best of luck to L on a successful, problem-free surgery & a super fast recovery.

Stay healthy, Carol!

Terri, that roo that doesn't walk so well, take a close look at his feet & legs. If his scales aren't completely flat & smooth, he probably has scaly leg mites. When you go lock up at night, smear some vaseline on his feet & legs as often as you can. If he'll let you, try using an old toothbrush to gently work it in a little. As they get used to it, they will start to enjoy the "massage".

If you don't treat them, they could lose their feet.

Mazo, I am going to resist the urge to comment on that one!

All afternoon I worked, sat down to read FIVE posts???

C'mon folks, you have to do better! The people are chomping at the bit for dinner. Lamb roast with roasted vegetables. I put in Daikon radish, sweet potatoes, reg. potatoes, Carrots and then green pepper, onions, garlic and celery. Just had DS23 take it's temp. He says 150! I go and it's really just 105....yeah we have a few minutes yet! I think he's pretty hungry....I think I'll start the broccoli!

So I took a bunch of pics of interesting birds today. I made a video of the calls "swimming" just for BL4 so she could calm her missing ducks feeling. (Geez, I dont know how else to say that!) I am going to upload them now so you can check them out if you want.

Gotta check the lamb! TerriOhungrytoo

CC - so sorry about losing Ramses. The orp eggs are part English BBS from slackwater here on BYC. Her parent stock is from Garry Farm, Bethel Farm and the Loft at Holly Lane.
