Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Happy Birthday Terri!! Hope you had a wonderful day

Well-since I am such an impulsive person, and I just make do with what I have on hand sometimes I have 7 eggs in the incubator even though I probably should have waited and followed some of your advice. If it doesn't work out, well I guess I'm not out anything. i didn't get a turner, but if I find it way too annoying, I will get one before I start with the "real" eggs. If they do hatch out, I am really curious to see what the heck they'll look like. I cracked open 6 eggs from yesterday and 5 of them were fertile, so hopefully these will be too. If anything I think my little terror, and I say that with love, DS3 will be a big cause.
Got the heated waterers hooked up today, so hopefully they work out, and no one gets electrocuted

Cleaning the house up this weekend so contractor number 1 can come Monday and give me an estimate on our new kitchen.
Hope you all have a good weekend!

Hi all--quick note and then we are getting to sleep. I had a fantastic day--thanks for all the b-day wishes!
BBP--that looks just like ,y daughter's gecko. Is yours tame? Hers is so wild that she cant handle it at all...more like she is afraid that is it going to get away I guess! He is very fast. I got him when he was just hatched cause there was a guy there that had one that was totally tame. I hope she can get him tame.
My Bff is playing solitaire next to me...yup, we are a couple of wild and crazies here for sure.
Now we are going to talk....nighties! TerriOgoingtohaveanotherglassofwine

Hi All!

DrH...If you were only short a couple of eggs you should do what my daughter says when she'd coming for eggs... "Time to go squeeze the chickens!"

GR... Hope you got your horse pen taken care of. Scary watching horses on ice. Nice birdie pics!

TO...Happy (late) Birthday! The best way for your Daughter to tame the gecko is to handle it very often... like every day.

Delish.... That is a beautiful hen! If anyone is getting some and plan on going to the bash... I would really like to buy 2 from you! Wow, I would not think that mix of hen would go broody.

Vickie.... I agree with CC, If you can hold off 'till the bash, lots of us will have chicks to bring! We usually talk about what we're bringing before hand so you could get an idea of what we have. I planED on breeding layers this year... a note on that later.

Bbp!... What a cute little gecko!

Judge.... Sounds like Colt is doing his job! LOL If you have brown egg layers, some of his kids could give you green/olive eggs

Well, as I mentioned a few days ago I had to put "Ozzy" in solitaire because he was beating up the Dominque roo. Well, I went to check on the birds before I went to town and he was dead! I think he may have tried to get up to the rafters but he was a big roo and not much space up there. He may have missed and broke his neck. He was on the ground with his wings patchily spread and a floppy neck.

Not my favorite roo but he was going to be my layer breeder. Now I don't have a roo with good layer genes.

I learned a lesson today. I've done real well hulling wood in with the dolly. I lay it down and load it up pretty good and make sure the load won't shift. I throw a bungee cord over it and off I go! Well, I found out a smaller load makes the cord looser and the load can shift. Load shifts too far back and it unhooks the back of the cord which flies up and can hit you in the head! And, if one turns your head to see what the noise was, you get whacked in the eye brow! Actually, another 1/2" it would have hit my temple. That may have been real bad! So, I have a nice bump!

Good Windy Morning! Happy late B'day TO! Sounds like your having a good time! ND neat dogs you have! delisha nic broody pic surprised about the cornish in her and being broody. Dan sounds like your breeding program is coming together. Vic had to laugh about coming to your senses. Your the only one that believes that. There is no such thing as FINALLY deciding.

kristip a balance ya right! Good luck! ODrH congrats on your NPIP status! Jim hope you can find a roo. Glad you like the sound of the Ollie. Bf4me 21 days and you'll know.

Sorry couldn't help it. Cindy those bungee hooks hurt! Every time it happens I think I really shouldn't do that. Sorry to hear about Ozzy! Told them that I squeezed a hard as I could to fill the carton but no luck. Going to build a carpet covered scratching post today. Toby uses the pad but Kissy likes the couch.

I have had a few cross cornish go broody. Not many. She is breed to leg horn too..I was not expecting it at all. Good egg layer. Oh well she is sticking like glue. She is on her second week, the eggs are on the third day, so we will see if she is going to be a broody or just a lil **it. I had to take her off the old nest yeasterday and put her back on the new one. Them broodys see eggs and get all glassy eyed. They don't care who's eggs, where they are, as long as they have eggs.

I have some pretty good dual purpose birds if anyone is looking. I also have 2 pols. They are cornish/RIW and SPBR. White birds with some yellow on them. They have pinched tails so they will be good layer for two years and need to be stew chickens after.

Large bird! Probably a good 7 lbs.

TO, yes he's real tame. He's still a baby, so not sure if its actually a "he". I hand feed him every night and we usually let him hang out in the huge hibiscus we have in the woodstove room every night. He really seems to enjoy that. Last night he didn't want to get out of that bush and really did not want to go back in his cage. I think I'll get him a screen enclose for summer and let him be outside in that during the day.

Good morning folks, and a Happy late BD TO!!
bare ground in the north, "tough sleddin" for all the bubble heads. Hard on the economy but nice in many ways.
Temp dropping like a rock it was 42º at 5:30,,,,now 31º with big winds

Finally bought a couple of the "easy clean" waterers from Premier last week, thanks for the tip bigz and whomever else made the recommendation. Cheap, fast service (overnight Speedy), and working great.

Anyone ever use toe punch on chicks when breeding? I plan to, might need some advise. Got some of the girls legbanded, need to finish that soon, also have the setup ready to do some trap nesting. Trying to go at this the right way, hopefully keeping up with the bookkeeping required,,,,

big day for football, hope things work for the Pack

good AM, I made a batch of Bailey's last night.. the yield was about 5 cups .. I figure it cost $10.8o to make..

I put a little in my coffee this morning,, Now I don't care if it gets cold, I can still drink it.. So, there ya go.. it saves me money from the coffee that I used to dump out..

Dan, ya want do-nuts ? just announce that you are on a diet.. then they just seem to show up magically..

My choke cable is still freezing up,, I was going to take the carb off today and work on it, but now IDK.. I wanted it to get colder, but now it might be too cold out there.. I really like summer..

I dumped the 5 gal pail of drain oil I took out of the transmission.. about 4 gallons of it was one big ice chunk.. No wonder Ollie didn't want to shift..

I had a nice offer for some BR eggs or chicks from a nice lady.. but what I really want is a rooster.. then I can make all the chicks I can handle.. I put a WANTED ad on Craig's list.. there were lots of other breeds of roosters listed,, I checked only Craig's Wausau area..

OK, that's about it,,my mind is drawing blanks.. maybe Bailey's in the morning is NOT such a good idea..,,,,,,,,,,,,yes it is.....

TerriO, have another glass of wine.. you made only a FEW typo's..

Happy Belated B-Day TO!! You didn't say nothin on Tues....
lol.png

I was so tired Tues night and Weds I fell asleep before being able to post.
Pretty much ditto for Thurs and last night, I haven't felt like going online. The truck I am using is sitting just off the road in a corn field, I slid through a stop sign in the fog and now
have to go get it out. The sheriff said to wait till today for the fog to lift.
Waiting for DH to eat his brekkies so I can have him steer the little truck while I pull it out with the big truck...
Starting to get more eggs. I am going to have to cull very soon, too many free loaders!! LOL

Weds I was on my way to go get DH from work and I noticed my landlords cows crowding towards one corner of their pasture, turns out the plow had shoved snow on top
of their fencing so one was out and more were gathering courage to do so...
So fencing, herding cows and cold weather.. makes for an exciting hour!

On GL wyandotts KristiP noticed how much smaller they are to SLW, is it due to their specific breeding?? And how did they get recognized as a wyandott with the parentage they have, is it similar
at all to the SLW???
Just wondering.

ok, during my absence I must have missed the ho-made Bailey's recipe can someone point me to that post?

Mentioned it to my DD Leslie and she NEEDS it !!!!

in 2010 we shipped a 1088# pumpkin to Ireland, she got a free week long trip to accompany it, the town that held the festival was also the home of the Bailey's dairy,,,,long story short she and her traveling companion developed a fondness for "Irish Cream"

and Carol, the SLW was used in creating the GLW so I'm thinking very similar,,,size of birds varies esp if they come from a hatchery..

tks
