Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

another weather report ` a -14o w/o the windchill earlier. Now it's a balmy -9o.

Terri~so sorry to hear about your chookies. I just can't believe a Border Collie! Guess it's true what the "Dog Whisperer" said about there being a fine line between the herding instinct and the prey drive. Just never heard of a BC crossing over to the dark side before, wow.

Happy Birthday Carol!!!!

2 of my girls have stopped laying again. thinking I may have upped the protein a little too much. Backing off to see if that solves the problem. (research told me that can be a cause). Otherwise mine are all snug as little bugs in their cozy coop with their oil heater and sun shining into their big window.

Picked up some millet sprays from Foster and Smith saturday to give them something to keep them busy during "lock down" this week. Not a bad deal. A large bag was only $3.88. Let my girls go play in the greenhouse for an hour yesterday even tho the wind was raw because with the sun shining it was still nice and toasty in there. Might let them go play in there for an hour or two later today if we keep our sunshine just to get them a bit of fresh air. It's funny to watch them "high steppin'" it in a little chookie line as soon as I pop the door streight for the greenhouse!

Ok, my coffee's cold so it's time to get another cuppa, curl up in my recliner and find something on the telly that ISN"T the innauguration.

a little prayer everyone (and their critters) stays warm and nobody loses power tonight

Morning everyone!!!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay warm!

Spent the afternoon up in Wausau yesterday, hanging out with my horse friends. I have not seen both of them in a while, so it was good to get together. We did some shopping, went out and visited the one friend's horse, and just had a good time yakking the day away. We discussed the MHF, and unfortunately I cannot go

my co-worker is attending a "location' wedding that weekend in Cali.

Jim, I can see some merit to having a firearms training class in schools. They already teach about firearm safety when you take Hunter's Safety so young kids are already getting the low down on guns at that point. You could replace football with marksmanship.

Of course, there is no WAY this would pass since the schools would have a tough time affording the equipment and then the insurance.

Making a baby shower cake today for a co-worker. The crib bedding she has chosen has a very cute scene on the blanket with a giraffe, hedgehog, and owl, and I am going to try and duplicate the picture on the blanket for the top of the cake.

Time for the second cup'o'joe.

TTFN!

I just double checked,, it is still cold out.. I had to use the heat gun on the faucet,, It was not completely frozen, but I wanted it thawed a little more than just barely..

I brought the waterer inside to fill it.. it was frozen a bit too hard so I couldn't open it..

I also replaced the heater in the guinea coop..

TerriO, I am the same way as you.. getting out there is the hardest part.. once I am out there, I putz around a bit.. (not so much today, though)..

here is a gross picture for you.. the snot hanging off the tip of my nose froze into a 2 inch long icicle.. and don't try to tell me that none of you have never had this happen..

the dog squatted to pee and I had to kick him loose..

I am not a computer whiz,, so here is my question.. does cold weather slow down a computer ? mine is refusing to connect to the web, and if/when it does, it takes a loooong time .. then for awhile everything happens is super slow motion..

I had a border collie that killed a couple of ducks.. he was only playing with them, but they just couldn't take the roughness.. I slapped him with one of them a few times and he never bothered any kind of my birds after that.. Of course, he also refused to help me herd them either..

been awhile, miss u all. not much going on here. cold weather always makes me want to sell all my outside critters. I HATE winter!! I put some of the critter responsibilties on DH and now he's ready to sell them all too. COME ON SPRING!
I think I told you i have a "job" now. not like being a mom to 5 isn't enough. I got hired as seasonal but asked if I wanted to stay. Heck ya! it's the only vacation I get! lmbo Big whoppin 4-10 hours per week lol but atleast I keep my discount. lol
I still haven't dragged my butt outside yet, I'm cold now and I'm in the house lol
Dh got into a car accident the other day (no one hurt) right before the insurance agent was going to call us cause we are/were eligable for a discount because of no accidents and because we've been with them so long. lol
now we get to wait for the police report to tell us WHO had the green light... DH says HIS light was green and the other driver says HER light was green lol SOOOOOO what happens if BOTH lights were green? lol inquiring minds want to know? could that even happen? lol
work late tonight ewwww early morning tomorrow double ewwww all for 4 hours of school (for the kids) why even bother just let me sleep in lol
anywho, nice "talking" with u all. stay warm

Raimwhowouldrathercrawlbackinbedtillspring! lol that was fun, very hard not to hit the space bar though lol
later all

BRRR is right and so are you Jim...it's still cold out there! I was putzing around muself when I went out. If my face hadnt frozen under my mask so bad I would have stayed out longer...my body was nice and toasty and I put foot warmers in my boots too! I had to come back in and get the meds so I remembered those footie things from Peggy---NICE!

So the lavender guinea was dead in the coop with its head under its wing. It was weird last night too so I just put it in the nest box. The hen turkey(with the beard) is still alive and was on the roost. I sprayed her wounds down with the miracle herb spray. This will be a good test for it. The Tom turkey was missing many feathers too but didnt appear to be wounded. The royal palm tom is fine...I think he was in the tree already.
The house is starting to smell really good from the chicken soup.

I have a question--how long should I let the other two "rest" under refrigeration before I package them for the freezer?

There was something else I wanted to say but I just finished with a long phone call....
There was one cool think out there today; I have a pinhole in my hose and the water kind of mists out of it. Today it is so cold that the mist was turning to snow as it was coming out! It looked pretty neat. My coveralls were shiny with ice all around the bottoms of the legs. Such fun in the cold!

So cold! I laughed out loud at Jim discussing puppy getting stuck during potty time! I then had to tell my eleven yr old what I was laughing at. Of course he thought it was funny. He was actually taking Shadow out to pee right then. By the glint in my son's eye I could see he wanted to try out Jim's idea. NO you may not let the dog freeze to the ground son...

Made hot oatmeal for the birds... hit water in the waterers too.

I got a call that the place I interviewed with wanted to do a background check. Apparently the email went in my junk folder 3 DAYS ago!!! Well took care of it, and now I'm back to waiting...

Glad you're on to the next step for the job BF4!

Pony should be fine.  As long as he has a good winter coat (which most pony's get) and can get out of the wind and stay dry, he'll be okay.  Just make sure he has enough to eat.  That keeps them warm, also.
\

An make that hay........... grain and corn do not do as good a job in the gut as plain old hay..some people think grains will do the trick, but it doesn't work that way roughage is best......... and our pony has been outside to about 50 below, and I never seen her shiver, but she has plenty of body fat as well she is our resident chunka............ 950lb Welsh draft cross, 12.2, far from a Minnie, but a pony just the same gets enough hair in the winter to cover 3 horses, and they have the run of the barn 12x16 stall, an a 12x12 run in shed both openings facing south, they prefer to be outside anyway, just inside the west wind break behind the water trough, ......... here she is.

Well good friggen freezing afternoon everyone, its 23 below here just now I think with that wind this am it was closer to -40 its been blowing like a tornado out here since Sat. night......... wondering if I'll have any shingles left on my house by Tuesday afternoon?
So it was a nice weekend Adam was home since Thursday night while they fixed his truck, and pulled out last night at 9;30 pm to Neenah, then Il. now he is on his way back to drop a load of paper at Wis, tissue. then who knows where. He is a bit crabby about these late pickups the last 2 weeks, then drive all night to get the load delivered.......... he is like man Do they think I never need to sleep? hehe but he is managing, not as bad as 1 of his 15 hour loads last week they wanted delivered in 11, had to run a split log and drive 4 hours then sleep 2 to get it there on time he was exhausted Thursday when he got home......
Not much new here, had a pretty decent check, but it didn't go far, because we were behind, and had to get the LP tank filled, so had to give them half of it...... to fill us up, I hate it my credit is shot from the last year and a half of no job and no money..........totally sucks........ can't wait to get everything caught up, just wish it didn't take so dam long, I need 1 big check like really big 2000, then I will be happy, and so will the creditors/ bill collectors, but not happening, since Taxes will be crap because our Tax lady screwed up so uncle sam will take his 1200 out of it, leaving us little if any.......... grumble grumble...... sick of the blood sucking government grabbing every penny they can......... I don't understand people, they holler there heads off about the blood sucking lawyers when they have to have one, but its ok for our blood sucking government to rape us every week for 30% of what we all kill ourselves for.........I'd be caught up already if I didn't have to pay uncle Sam for wasting money and lining his own pockets....... Wonder why we ever left England, doesn't anyone ever wonder these things, and everyone just does what their told like good little sheep.......... pretty sick of it myself.
Ok end of my Biothing......
Anyway TerriO sorry about your bird loss, I would do more than take a paper to that puppy, I would beat the snot outa him with the chicken or duck or ti=turkey whatever it might kill, I don't know for sure that tactic works, but Hollis my old friend, gone now, swore by it and his Black lab hunted ducks like crazy but never touched any of his flock and she was loose with them all the time day and night.......... so something must have changed her mind about killing his birds.
Hope the Job is a go BigFam........... sounds promising.......
Jim...hehehe still giggling about the froze down puppy, these boys don't even seem to know its colder than hellfroze over out there........ they are running around playing, gidget is hiding in her house from the wind, but she is old 14, and has arthuritis in her back legs, so she has a hard time in the cold these last couple years. my Chickens seem not to mind either several girls went out and are in the bedded pens soaking up the sun ouita the wind. I found where my eggs gave went the last few days, was only getting 20 eggs, found a dozen frozen eggs in the one A frame pen this am, little farts so I blocked it up, its hard to get into with just enough room for me to crawl in there, the door is frozen shut thanks to the rain and cold......so easier to board it up than crawl in there everyday. All the eggs were from my young pullets, mostly EE's..... silly things. so anyway Stay warm everyone gonna go catchup on all my threads.............BBL.........Kim
