LOL--as soon as you have a dog that does it, it kinda makes you crazy and you just HAVE to beat the dog with the dead bird! Let me tell ya, that dog is lucky I didnt catch her at it...she is extremely remorseful today. Probably because I havent petted her of talked to her all day except for "go lie down." She watched chores from a chain (when she usually goes along) and when she slipped her collar she was promptly returned to the chain. She is lying down next to my chair now and keeps looking up at me like, "am I forgiven yet?" I am thinking a few more days on the chain....
The chicken soup sure smells good though!

It was so weird going out to do chores...did anyone elase have very quiet birds today? I am not sure if it is because of the cold or it they are just shell-shocked from the attack. At any rate I didnt get to pick up too many eggs today! Most of the ones I did get were already frozen! GGRRR.

Glad to hear that you had a bit of time with your DH Kim! You will catch up...it will just take a bit. Looks like you are wide open there by that pic of your pony! It is not below zero here YET. They are saying tonight it will be though.

BigFam, MXM and I are having lunch on Thursday in Madison. We are thinking Qdoba. I have to check their GF status. THen I will have a bator...now if the birds just start laying again I will be set. II am pretty glad that I had my purebred hens penned up or who knows what I would hatch this year?

Gotta get those chickens deboned...get the veggies in the soup...so chores...feed dogs...man I sure wasted this day away! Better luck tomorrow I guess! Wood heat makes me sleepy....

My MIL would beat a dog with the bird they killed. It seemed to do the trick every time. Made the dogs afraid of the chickens.

Chicken on the menu here as well. I have 2 roasting away in the oven, and I have potatoes ready to be mashed. I was thinking I would whip up a cherry cobbler or something since it is so freaking cold out..... a little something extra to warm up the insides.

Washing to dog beds right now...... for city dogs they sure do make their beds stink!

Man I hear ya on stinky dog beds! I have one BC that I could wash her bed every other day and it would still smell! Ick--she is just a stinky dong...then there is the beagle! They just seem to have a smell..I have also noticed smells on Labs and Boxers...maybe it is just me? I know my Amazon parrot has a smell...some dont like it but I always have.

The broth is clarified, the bones roasting, and the veggies cooking in the broth. I can never understand making soup in an hour...never worked for me anyhow.
Dh has been home and now went to work out at the activity center...told him he could bring wood inside and then replenish the pile for his workout...I guess "real work" doesnt count....

My woodstove is cookin' and it feels delightful! Maybe I will put the rest of the chestnuts on top for dessert tonight--at least I will have desert. I need to pick the spinach out of the lettuce mix yet to add to the soup. I LOVE spinach in chicken soup...

I am giving the meaties dry food tonight. There is too much frozen mash in there right now. I have to put the feeder under the heatlamp tomorrow to thaw it out. Guss I better get out there and close up...we have dropped to minus 1 now. I dont think it got higher than 9 today...then started dropping right away. Two more days?

LOL stinky dogs whats that hehehe, my outside dogs are smellier than any I have ever had inside why is that? one would think just the opposite would be true.
Anyway Yah TerriO we are out in the open more than I would like, we sit on a corner acre lot, with a 40 acre feild right behind us, on the other side there is another 40 or so acre field on the east, and North The worst part is the wind, always from the west Northwest, whips so hard across that field when there's loose snow it blows right over our house and leaves a 5 foot drift or more right over my steps on the south side of the house... Hate it I planted a bunch of tree's when I moved here, but should have added more pines as a wind break long ago.....after my 16 YO son mowed the ones I had started down I never bought more..... there is some but not many........... anyone have a tree mover? I have 2 huge pines in the front I want moved to the back next to the others. they are about 12 years old....LOL will probably cost me more to move em than to buy 2 ten foot trees.......
they are about 18 20 feet high and maybe 7 feet around.......except for the 1 Adam clipped a few branches off getting in here the first time with that ole monster truck of his........
BTW they didn't fix the heater.!!!!!!!! argggrrrrrrrrr he had only gotten a couple hours sleep when I called him to get up at 5pm, because the cold had him awake, they have a no idle policy at HOW but his truck is running at idle because otherwise he would freeze to death.......then I would a rich widow, a very unhappy widow, but very rich because I would sue there arsses off, that truck has been in the shop 2 times now with it not being fixed !!!!!! I'm a bit miffed Adam is livid and mad as a hatter..........because he's stuck with it all week, and this nasty cold is just par for the course, well maybe they will get moving when they have to keep filling his truck because its running constantly........... at over 400 bucks a fill maybe they will actually fix it next time he is home.
BL4 it will also warm up the kitchen just having that over cranked up, I'm thinking about baking something.. just to take the chill out.... my patio door leaks like a siv, when the wind is whipping makes it quite chilly in my dining rm and kitchen...... don't help the kitchen window also leaks air like mad. Wish we could afford new window, these are all older than me......... original windows in the house that was built in 1964...........well better go make supper Jaret will hollering he's starving to deth pretty soon if I don't, anyway just did evening chores its awful out there even the dogs bucket had ice in it....... they seem to be fine, hunrier than USUAL THO... must be like the horses burn it all up staying warm.............. later all Kim

Hi ALl, I closed up the birds at 3 PM.. More for my sake than theirs.. It was already getting colder.. there were only 3 chickens out,,and 4 of the geese, so it went very fast..

Dora was taught to go outside when I wanted her to , by me wielding a broom.. Never had to hit her with it,, just sort of push it in her face and sweep her from behind.. the irritation is what does it.. now all I have to say is "Dora, do I have to get the broom" and she is heading for the door,,, any door....

when I let the puppy in from outside, I make him sit before I open the door.. that seems to settle him down and he doesn't go slam banging into the house..

there seems to be a chill in the house tonight.. Not cold,, but like a cold monster surrounding the house and trying to get in..

I should have cleaned out the pellet stove ,, but I am not going to mess with it , now..

The Blazer's battery was dead today.. I think it is a loose cable,, but I will just not go anywhere until the weather warms up ..
