Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I'm dreading going out to the coop.

This has also stalled my plans of moving my basement birds to the shed. All the birds have access to the shed and could expose these birds. So the stinky duckies are stuck in the basement longer. And George the goose and my 2 buff orp pullets and buff ROO and mystery chick. Jim any idea what mystery chick might be?

Gotta get the boy food, therapy at 9. Then coop check

mystery chick ? Oh,, that one with George.. It is prolly a Delaware .. at least part Del.. either hen or roo decent .. or both.. or (Del roo and barrock hen).. the latter ( ) is my first guess..

I sold all of my black hens this morning,, 12 of them and 2 dozen eggs.. all headed for the stew pot soon..

I kept 2 black hen clucks for Jordan to hatch some goose eggs.. also donated by me..

I am re-designing my roof for the GH.. I am going to try to make it roundish,, sort of.. If I do it with wood, it will be lots of sawing.. If I can find long metal or pvc pipe, that might be the way to go.. I will take pictures ,, either way.. stand by........

JIM - going for a sort of "barn" roof? Cool idea!!
Bigfam - so sorry. Hope things get under control really fast.
Glad to hear about all the babies doing better and sorry for the lost one's. Never thought before about how much carnage there can be in the spring.

Dodged a bullet with the frost, only slight tipping. Now if the late frost will just hang back...........

TO- hope you feel better real soon :hugs

Should be outside right now weeding the garlic while I can still find it but not one of my better days so I need to wait for the drugs to kick in. Better living thru modern chemistry!!!

TO: I also missed the comment about your ducklings :-( I am so sorry!!!

BBP: THanks for the info I will give her a call, also I have vetrimycin for the goose if you want to use it? :-(

BigFam: Crossing my fingers for you-let us know how things are!

Update: Baby wild bird: doing great and full of sass this morning..not sure how much food I am geting into her..she reminds me of trying to feed a baby vegetables LOL the lil grumpy face/wide mouth

Hen hapfully eating in the sun. Yesterday evening. I hope she is ok when I get home tonight. She was still about the same this morning. Im worried that the improvement is minor. I worry that she will make her roo (blackis) sick. I had a hard time making the choice to keep the two of them together. I think they do better if they have a buddy. I planned to treat him either way. He is strong and angry he is locked up. He will be fine. Hoping she shows more improvement over the weekend.

I will bleach that section of the lawn. They seemed so depressed to be kept in their quarantine in the barn. I decided the grass was not that important in that small pen. It will grow back next year. How is the other cocci birds? Angiebuns, I hope latte shows more improvement soon. It is a hard time...

Lisa, is your hen still back to normal?

Hope everybody is having a good weekend!

To, I hope you feel better soon, and sorry about your baby duckies :'(

Poor ducklings :( so sad to see those little cuties not make it!

Rough start to the Plague Coop. (and no feeling guilty Vicki, if I followed protocol I would have had 4 birds to treat instead of 30 something!) there have been 3 more dead today. But with the amount of bloody stool I saw fresh after I let them out, the droopy wings and eyelids, that number will go up. The worst was one had a bloody bm and lost its intestines in front of me. THAT was rough. :(:( I guess whatever survives should be the strongest. Whatever survives was meant to survive. If I lose entire breeds, then I guess I'm just done with that type.

I have forbidden the children from helping with chores, or going by the chickens at all until this is over. It is really hard to see so many sick. i cant imagine the kids seeing what I saw this morning. i have been picking up the sickest weakest ones and dipping their beaks in water, beyond that, there's nothing i can do. i do feel like a chicken killer and pretty darn sh!tty about the babies suffering right now.

And yes, I lost a chocolate orp pullet. A blue laced red wyandotte isn't looking so good either. There are a few breeds I had my heart set on having. I hope the rest of the chocolates pull through. I hope the BLRW bounces back. Please chicken lucky leprechaun !!!

And PLEASE DEAR LORD ABOVE...MAKE THESE CHILDREN STOP FIGHTING!

BigFam - So terrible! Are some of them improving at least? EDIT: We were posting at the same time...just went back and read your last post. Don't know what to say besides I'm praying for your chickens.

TO- Oh No! The ducklings

So sad...they were absolutely precious. I sure hope you feel better.

Angiebubs - I know nothing about raising wild birds, but more power to you. I used to have a lady that lived by me that I took them too when I found them. She had quite an operation and excelled at saving birds. She had the coolest crow that she saved as a chick. The ones I find are usually covered in lice. Did you see any lice/mites? If I pick one up 9 times out of 10 they are walking all over my hands. Creeps me out. These days I usually leave them where I find them in case mom comes back. I sure hope your chick uses it's legs soon.

Jim- Glad you got the hens sold. Man you have a lot of energy. Always working on stuff.

Cuties - My hen is still good. Still in a cat carrier and she wants out. She was all lovey-dovey when she was sick, now not so much. I didn't realize you had sick chickens too...

Pictures are not working for me still on Internet Explorer, so I downloaded google chrome and it works with that browser.

Here is the chicken tractor my husband built. Ran out of stain before we got the bottom plywood and the handle painted, so we still have to paint that and put a door on the coop portion. My chick are enjoying themselves with this. It is 6X16'

Langshan chicks

One of my girls, Bright Eyes Express, Quarter Horse. I have 4 horses, but I won't bore you all with a million pictures...unless of course someone asks, lol.

Hope everyone has a great day and sick chickens get better!

good early aft, No Vicki, a barn roof was considered,, but finances and justifieable costs deemed that I come up with an inexpensive framework for the roof.. which I think I did..

I have plenty of short 2 by lumber around here.. it is the long pieces I don't have a lot of..

after talking with UndaDan this morning, I put my brain to work.. getting my brain to work is easier than getting my body going.. what I need is a crew to do all the stuff I dream up..

pretty horse, Lisa.. I broke one that color for a farmer I worked for when I was in high school.. It was a mean SOB ,, liked to kick at me when I put the saddle on.. One day he kicked at me just as I tightened the cinch,, put his hind foot right into the stirrup.. I said, good, now you can just stand there like that for awhile.. after about an hour he let me take his foot out, and he never tried that stunt again..

I had some wild rides on that one, for sure.. he turned out just awesome in the end.. would skid to a stop at a dead gallop.. the old farmer never rode that horse, but he got a kick out of watching that horse skid..

I have to get things set up for production of 7 trusses for the GH.. going to build a jig on the big trailer for assembling the trusses...
