Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I'm pretty pumped up for the game. I even took off work tonight(3rd shift) to watch it and enjoy a few barley waters. Still on the look for some chocolate brown egg layers.

Quote: guess what,, the incentive program worked..
Annie found an egg under the roost today,,
It is a full sized egg, so that makes me think there is a hidden nest somewhere..

Neighbor stopped by and gave us a rooster.. now I forget what he called it.. very pretty red and black.. not real big .. I have it in a brooder pen right now,, will take pictures when I turn him loose..I really don't need a rooster, but Brian had one too many ..(roosters; that is)..

I will be going after a pickup load of straw this week,, Probly on Tue or Wed ..

I am under the self imposed belief that kraut should be rinsed well before serving..
I think it would taste more like cabbage, then,,
with the meds I am taking, I am not allowed to eat cabbage .. However, I do sneak in a helping of cole slaw once in awhile..
I can tolerate about a tablespoon of kraut,, it is too salty for my taste.

The recipe I use is the one from Farm Journal's Freezing and Canning Cookbook. For every 5 lbs of shredded cabbage you add 3 T canning salt. For 50 lbs it is around 1 1/2 c salt.

Jim, it sounds like you are on the same restrictions as my FIL: reduce your Vit K intake.

No complaints here on the saltiness of the kraut. I have gotten complaints over the store bought stuff though!

Trying to figure out names for these kittens. The tortie is a bit on the shy side, the tuxedo one more adventurous.

Headed to Chicago in a week for training. A nice change of pace!

Hi All!

We got a bunch of apples that were going so I started a batch of vinegar. Never tried making my own before.

Nothing else new.

Night All.

I finally have my toilet installed, just need water hooked up to be complete. I can still use now if I need to though, filling some jugs so in case I can't hold it on a cold night. I came up with a really cool idea(well I think so) yesterday morning. I went and loaded the old outhouse from the farm on the trailer, brought home and dismantled it. Was in really good condition so I'm going to make the bathroom look like the toilet area is a real outhouse. The seat and all was in super condition. I'm also building a platform for the clawfoot tub I just picked up a few days ago for an awesome price($40 in excellent condition). Still trying to find a washpan or old galvanized tub to turn into the sink but do have a few modern sinks if I can't find one. Also got most of the dining room walls and floor done yesterday. So many plans to get things done but company just would not keep showing up and detering me from my work.
I did give away over a dozen hens/pullets yesterday to a friend. Just different breeds I did not intend on keeping for breeding. Can't even see a dent in the birds. I think I'm a bit overrun with Skovies and geese though, they are eating my run down to dirt and it's large enough it should be able to feed easily. 7 geese and 13 ducks I think is a bit too much but Tyler does not want me to sell any of the ducks.
My plan today is to hopefully get the bathroom finished but I'm sure something will pop up to sway those plans.

I quite watching early in the 4th quarter..

up at 7,, or is it 8 ?? about the time I get used to the time change we will switch again,,

my new rooster is a good crow-er. having 6 pretty girls prancing about just outside his cage probably has something to do with it, ??
