Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I lost my post on here again....this site is to be desired....anyway...the books are 1/3 more salt than necessary....that's a lot of extra salt...sure you can use it for cooking...but for fresh kraut on brats or eating out of the jar...it's way to salty....go with 2 Tablespoons per 5 lbs and love your kraut (no rinsing, ever)...In My Opinion.

If you are going to freeze it, do you have to salt it ??
I thought salting it was just to preserve it..

same with making sausage,, if you are going to freeze it, can't you skip the salt ??

inquiring minds want to know..

there is a football game going on right now.. but I am so soured from that Packer fiasco that I don't feel much like watching any games just yet ..

I turned the new rooster loose this morning,, He didn't run away.. dang !!

I dug a huge hole with Ollie this afternoon and buried the deer remains. I hope I got it deep enough so the dogs don't dig it up..

Hi All!

Stacy... sounds like the Bath room is going to be real cute! How in He!! are you moving that tub?

bl4.... great score on the cabbage!

Jim... you need the salt to break down the cabbage and get it to ferment proper.

Night All!

I didn't get as much done as I hoped for but I do like it so far. Cindy the tub is only a 4 1/2ft one so smaller than most but Tyler will be helping me bring it in when the time comes, hoping for today to be that time!

Another gorgeous leaf raking day....the more dry days in a row really help with having dry leaves to fill the coops with...I don't use wet ones, they go in the gardens for mulch and improving the heavy soil here.

Yep, the kraut can't be made with out the salt...it would just be shredded cabbage and would end up soggy and soft if froze without the salt and time to cure first before freezing. I love my kraut!

The Asian beetles are still nasty here yet. By the end of the week, they will be gone till Spring. They love the nice gentle weather this time of year.

Great job Stacy...I could use a good carpenter around here...plenty of projects just waiting for attention.

Yep, I really enjoyed the World Series...I didn't bother flipping back much.....What front Line?

Wild Turkey sandwich for supper...dang that meat is delicious....

good afternoon,

I fired up Ollie and Annie and I did a real good job of moving stuff around, I hauled both turkey porches out next to the road,, I will put a for sale sign one them and see what happens,, anyhow, they are out of the yard and don't look so out of place where they are,,

tomorrow the final touches in front of the garage will be cleaned up..
a push lawn mower,, works, but never used.. anybody want it ? free ..

a half dozen extra tires for the Blazer . I will toss them into the back of the Blazer for the winter..

My visit to the VA clinic went well today,, Blood pressure is low enough, and I lost 5 pounds..
lettuce salad for breakfast must be working,,
I made some ho-made french dressing.. It is really good, but next time I am going to cut the sugar from a half cup down to a quarter cup... really easy to make.. I am thinking a little red pepper would give it a nice snap ..

.my stomach is still on daylight saving time,, I am hungry ..

the new Old English rooster is in seventh heaven .. he has a lot to crow about, being the only rooster..

I wish I could convince this town to stop allowing burning leaves....... Some afternoons it looks like a fog bank has rolled in...... Wreaks havoc with the asthma too.

Boo, everyone... Hope everyone has had enough of Halloween, time to think about the Packer Bear game on Thanksgiving Eve... do not want to think about Sunday's game makes me a tad ill.

Glad every one is enjoying kraut... never made it but it sounds easy enough. Jim I always rinse mine too, but I just do not like the tangy taste... even pickles are a bit much for me... that part of my German heritage is lacking... And grapefruit OMG never.... ewww yuck
We saw the movie The Martian loved it, makes a person really think about things... he grew potatoes on Mars... Enjoy the cheap Saturday morning matinees
Like the Stihl trimmer "z" looks like a present for the hubby, our old Remington pole saw seems to be missing a bracket and they are no longer doing business.
Looks like the weather will be turning tomorrow, sure has been a wonderful week. The yard has 5 different types of trees and they fall at different rates. First are the Honey Locust., then aweek later the Purple Mountain Ash and they are two steps leaves and a 3-5 days later stems...next week is the Silver Maple and then finally the last tree a Norway Maple.... but we mulch and then bag and dump them on the garden and flower beds.
CYA soon!
