Glad to see most of you managed to come out of the storms pretty good. A little clean up isn't so bad..... having a tree in your house, or your house blowing away.... not so good. I guess a few miles from us got it worse than we did. About 1/3 of Burlington was without power for several hours. Someone had a tree in their BR and a deck got smashed. Lots of trees down. I haven't been to town yet, but I have to go today (Tue.) so I'll drive around a bit and see how bad it was.

Got some patching cement to patch the cracks where the babies are going so I better get that done before I go to town. Wed. I rebuild the small coop. Hope I can get them in by Thur. or Fri. They are getting restless and really need more room! Not to mention how stinky they are!

LOL A friend from my DH's church want's to come by this week too so I can teach her about chickens, gardening, asparagus and what ever country life can offer.

Thanks Dear. I really didn't have a thing to do this week!

Fixing and rebuilding a coop, fencing, planting, court Thur., new (used) stove Thur.( A GAS STOVE! FINALLY!) Not to mention all the house chores I've let go trying to work outside while the weather held up.

The dryer is broke and there hasn't been enough dry weather to hang out clothes so the laundry is way behind! And DH said it's been so long since I made bread he really would like some this week!

It may not sound like much to some of you, but with my health issues I can only do a little at a time. Although I will say, I LOVE THIS HOUSE and I have been able to push myself a bit more than I could before! It was worth the 3 years it took to find it!

Oh, the chickens got a new treat..... watermelon reins! They didn't quite know what to do with them at first. but once they caught on that that pink stuff was tasty..... The madness ensued!

And, my 2nd son said he started working on the camper wheel (it was froze up), so maybe we can have a camper to use for the bash!

BTW... our (very) old blind dog will probably be with us. Can't leave him for too long. We can get someone to take care of the other critters, but not him.

Oh.... If anyone has 3-4 Ameraucana pullets and/or 1 or 2 good broody type hens/ pullets at Bash time.... I would be interested! (Think chicken math)

I sure hope the "chicken bill" passes.... everyone should be able to have at least 2 chickens!

TO. Know what you mean about farm sitters. I can only leave here if one of my older kids comes home, which isn't often. It's all day trips for this bird. Still trying to work out the bash.

Good Morning All! Surprised that I don't hurt too bad this morning. Think if I start out with the limb saw I should loosen up pretty quick. Cind sounds as if you've got a ton of things to do. Oh yes melon rinds are near the top of the list of favorite treats. Nothing but skin left.

TO congrats on the third egg! Think as long as your hen will hatch em out for you I'd let her then take em away. Hope your week goes fast! Jim you are a hatching fool! Emphasis on the hatching!

I'm convinced that there were 2 tornados went through their properties, there's 2 distinct paths through their woods. Think I'll take the camera today. They had more traffic on their road in an hour than they get all week. A lot of looky Lou's. Some would stop and take pics they offered them a new pair of gloves but no takers. kee hope it passes!

One of the sons was asking me about chickens and making a tractor. He lives in town in St. Point and has a huge yard. Loves real eggs. Says he wants 4 hens, I laughed and told him about chicken math. Don't know how long I'll help out today guess I'll just see how it goes. Really need to go get some feed, just about gone. Have a good one!

Chicken math =?

I am guessing that one is never enough and that turns into two andn then three and then ducks and then turkeys.....right?

YEP.. chicken/duck/turkey math is when you only want a few, and then.. well there was one free from a neighbor.. Oh.. and raising meaties is only a temp thing since you
are gonna eat them... Oh and now that new hen you got was with a rooster and has now gone broodie.. and suddenly 21 days later you have 4-6 peepers.
CHicken Math!!!

good morning, I did not make any coffee.. I am going to town as soon as my daughter gets here to do a shift w/grandma..

there are 5 more chicks in the hatcher,, they are starting out slowly.. I hope we get a good hatch for her.. I don't know what they have for breeding stock, but these are some interesting marked chicks..

TO, don't blame the hen for losing a guinea keet.. they are all but impossible to hold on to.. they only bird I ever had that could keep them together was an old turkey hen.. she hatched out 4 of them and kept them all in a bunch.. something a guinea hen cannot/will not do..

I have to let the birds loose and check on the poults and the cry baby..

I let the big duckling and gosling stay with the big geese last night.. actually, the duckling has adopted the UkoKei rooster as his foster parent.. the rooster doesn't seem to mind..

since I moved the pen where the Uko's were laying their eggs, I was wondering where they would go .. answer: in my Blazer.. It was parked near where the coop had been.. I had the tailgate open and they found their way in.. LOL
