Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Delisha - can you post a pic of the cherry eggers and do you have a pic of an egg? I'd be interested in getting 2-3 of them. How much are you asking?

BabyLady - thanks for the tip on the ducks, I appreciate you looking out for me. I will look into it for sure! We are also talking about putting a top over our runs/pens so we don't have to worry about that as well as worry less about predators getting in.

Kristip - suck pretty chickies!!

TO - I've been working on laundry yesterday & today, too. Ick!

I'm having a memorial day party again this year, (Sunday) and boy have I got a lot of work to do! The girls & I have been working on cleaning out the old rabbit cages and dumping the stuff in the garden to get tilled. When we got rid of some of our rabbits we got lazy about cleaning out the 'empty' cages and it's starting to get old and I don't want any problems. So I told them it's getting done and we got about 1/2 the garage done yesterday. I have just a small project for them to work on today after school, plus a small project taht I'll be working on sometime this week as time allows, and hopefully the rest of the garage will get done on Wednesday. The other 1/2 really doesn't have a lot to do b/c that's already been worked on prior. I told them I wanted to start on the other 1/2 and get the worst overwith. It really didn't even take all that long, as it's not like everything's been sitting all winter or anything. We were workin out there for only maybe 2+ hrs. Even got the floor swept up and used the scraper in the areas it was needed. Didn't take much to do it at all. But I told them I want the whole thing done by Wed. b/c we have to work on things inside the house the last 1/2 of the week b/c ppl aren't going in our garage this wknd, but they ARE going in our house. (but I still don't want the garage getting too stinky or anything!)

We got a few loose ends picked up to get started on making somethign for the chickens, but most of the places were closed on Sunday and w/Sat being so busy w/the swap & coming home to unpack and get the chickens all set up and such and getting our daughter off to prom, there just wasn't much time for chicken shopping. I was only planning on bringing home baby chicks anyways, not the adults, so now I've gotta get this taken care of this week, too.

Here's what I picked up:
Bantam Cochins; 2 black splash, 1 blue splash (2f, 1m)

4 Marans; 2 black copper, 1 blue copper, 1 splash. Straight run.

3 white Show Girls, straight run. He said they're white, but why does the left one look buff?
These will be bred together and with my 6 yr old's silkies.
She has 1 black (sex unknown) and 1 splash pullet. I'll post those next.

Here are her silkies we had from before. The splash is about 1 1/2 wks old and the black is 4-5 wks.

Here are current pics of some of our other chicks. These are the Amerecaunas (mix?).
they're about 5 wks old, any idea on boys or girls? Someone said in another group that
they all look like girls.

Here are my only other 2 bantam cochins. 1 white, 1 black frizzle. They're roughly the
same age. They may be a few days off or born on the same day, but there's a HUGE size
difference! Someone said tht the frizzles grow a lot slower. And would you say the blk is a
girl & the white a boy? I mean, hens have a bit of a comb & wattle too, don't they?

My gold laced banty cochins. What do you think? L=cockeral R=pullet?

My purdy naked neck! (partridge, std sz)

And my std GL Cochin photo bombing the blue Cochin!

Here's a better pic:

And last - BUT NOT LEAST - a pic of our very first eggs!!!

Good morning!
Kids and the DH had me up early this morning so I managed to get a 3 mile walk in; good thing to, it is nasty sticky outside!

The oldest DD's BF is out in CO visiting his uncle and doing some 'shed' hunting, they are looking for Elk sheds. He sends my Dh pics (since the DD had her phone taken away for poor school performance), they found a intact skull yesterday. I'll have to get some pic up here. When he comes back next week I will have to check with him on his setting goose; the knobhead was trying to hatch out 25 eggs! If anyone would want some mutt geese, well, we will see how many will hatch first I guess..... but I think they should be hatched out by the Bash.

Psyco, if you do get some calls..... PLEASE do some research on them first. They DO and WILL fly away, and they have a very difficult time hatching......

Met up with Amyable yesterday at that little Fiber event just outside of New Holstein. Beautiful farm, adorable animals, just a lovely day overall! Judge, if I knew exactly where you lived I would have driven by and beeped!

Anyone in my neck of the woods up for a road trip tomorrow (Amy, Julie)? The Raw Milk advocates are showing their support the trial of Vernon Hershberger. Need information?

http://farmfoodfreedom.org/event/vernon-hershberger-trial

I suppose I should get going, I do have other things to do today...... enjoy!
wish I could go on the road trip! I soooooo miss being able to get raw milk....we can buy tobbacco products but don't have the choice to purchase raw milk. stupid.. absolutely stupid. Thank you government big buck groups...
I really can get on a soap box on this matter.. it makes me soooo angry!

Does anyone have any special advice as to specific breed characteristics as far as what sex chicks might be?

I have Light Sussex
Black Copper Marans
Olive Eggers
Ameracauna

I can tell a couple of the Marans for sure. Or Olive eggers that look like Marans... are roos.
Some have pea combs? Do they all get wattles? 1 or 2?

Every day I go out and stare at them and everyday I come up with something different..lol
