Good news Angiebubs & LMiller!
Not good news BF4M! I'm soooo sorry you have to deal with such a nasty thing!!! Hope you get it sorted out quickly!!
Today was a very long day. I started on the garden early (finally!) and after 10 I was back and forth between the garden and the store and the escape artist chickens. I repaired the fence around the back yard and blockaded the opening to the parking lot with some old lattice fencing. I moved the chicken tractor into the enclosure and took off one of the side walls so they could get in and out of the loft (with fresh hay in the nest box) easily. They got bored with the back yard and half of them hadn't laid any eggs before I moved them so they were anxious to get outta Dodge. The first to escape were those who hadn't laid yet. They were determined to get to the favorite nesting place I guess. Couldn't see where they might have been able to squeeze through the fence so they must have flown. Then the roo got out and he was fighting mad. I caught him and clipped his wings - that buggar is STRONG! At one time or another most all of them flew the coop. There's a low spot where the lattice fence is so I'm going to string some chicken wire across the top tomorrow and see if it helps.
In spite of the jail breaks, no veggies were harmed during the operation. I was able to get two long rows of tomatoes (3 varieties), 2 rows of squash (4 varieties), a bit of celery, marigolds and cilantro. Also seeded some lavender - and keeping my fingers crossed that it takes hold - I tried starting them twice earlier this spring and not even one seedling sprouted. Tomorrow the millet, pumpkins, carrots and corn go in - hopefully lots more! Pray for a warm fall!!
