Evening Again...Doc you are the best. Glad we are friends...I wouldn't trade you ever as a friend. I'd have your back like no other one could..... It's all about here and now, eh!
Bigz I know you know how much that just meant to me. You only have one life make it count! I'm always, always here for you too Bro! Thanks! It helps me to sleep knowing that there are still good people in this world! Everyone on here has touched a very special place in my heart and I want to once again to thank you all for being who you are! Man you guys suck!
Wow everyone is busy it sounds like!
Sarah we will be hitting your home. I think we are skipping the Marshall one and the 2 on the far east, but my mother in law and I are hitting the rest. Making a morning of it. I will be the one with a notebook and a list of questions/comparisons of what works for each coop. We are hoping to find someone to make us a coop so I want to know the things you love and hate or wish you had with your coop. Anyone can offer an answer for that one.
Anyone have ideas of what to do with a few million cherry tomatoes. I found one receipe for marinating them and then dehydrating them. Might try that... otherwise not sure but we had a huge crop.
Oh boy...you guys are getting pretty sappy on here!
We love you too! I sure wish we didnt all live so far away from each other...we'd be visiting all the time and never get a thing done! Speaking of visiting; I went to another BYCer's house near Wales. Picked up 2 nice roos and she gave me a buff Orp hen that was broody. She wants to get out of the golden color and go with more production birds...has a nice little egg business going on! And honey! She gave me a bear of honey...I brought her eggs, DOH! Wish I would have brought some of that pear/lime jam...oh well, hopefully I will get together with her again. Her 3 year old wanted to come home with me! I invited her to join us here...perhaps she will! More good people!
Well I believe that we are giving up on our little dog that went missing. I cant hope that she survived for 3 days out there without food. She is so skinny with no reserves. If she did pass away, I hope it was quick.
I took a pic of my harvest today--minus the pears. Here it is:
The potatoes came to about 3 pounds from one of those recycling bins. (the little green ones) I am anxious to dump the big barrels and see how many grew in there! The best part was that it took me about 5 minutes to harvest. Dump them out and swish through the dirt. The potatoes werent even muddy! I will definitely be doing this method again next year!
One more thing I wanted to ask you guys...do you have any idea what this plant is? It started growing in my lettuce garden all in a row so I am thinking it is something I planted last year that never came up? I tasted it and it is kind of like Spinach. The leaves are pretty fleshy. It is running all over the garden now ans growing more roots where the stem touches the ground. I hope someone knows what it is (and if I can eat it!)
Thanks for the help! (and now I am going to bed!) Sleep tight! Terri O
Kristi--when I had the problem I put them in bags and just froze them whole with skin and all. Then I used them in chili and soup etc. Worked pretty good. Just had a thought...they would also make excellent "ice cubes" for a Bloody Mary! Terri O
Good Morning Everyone! TO that was the exact word I was thinking of before I sent both those posts. But guess what. I don't care! It's good to let it out once in a while. Sorry to hear about Mayo I too hope things went quickly! Nice harvest!!!! Beautiful maters! Agree with the cherry maters going in the freezer. Always come in handy if you need a little more mater in your in your supper. Kristip just clean them and bag them air tight then to use them run them under water to remove the skins when their frozen. Sending the cuc's I picked yesterday with L to work, hope someone will use them. It's just killing me to look at them their just right for making pickles. Stop it! Just stop it! Thinking of things I may or may not do today. So much to choose from!
I told you guys, you talk A LOT! 5-6 pages since I've been gone. I was only gone 3 days.
TO, We have about 15 campgrounds within 20 miles or so of us. So I guess we are kinda lucky. Not all I would stay at.
BL4 told you that the storm missed us but she forgot to tell you who our camping neighbor was. Remember a while back when she was talking about the man who worked with her that got cancer and had been off for a while and then that company fired him over the phone....it was him and his wife and another couple and their grandson. Small world for sure. The guy is from Poy Sippi near Fremont. Really nice people.
Beckyschicks, sorry I don't need a spider catcher any more. I was killing about 30 ( NO exaggeration there) wolf spiders A DAY!!!! Granted, they are not poisonous, but they pack one heck of a punch, hence their name. And I didn't want my kids to get bit. You know you have a problem when you check the ceilings and corners EVERY night because you don't want them crawling in the the crib with the baby.
I called an exterminator to see how much it would cost for him to come and take care of the problem. (I know that it's chemicals but they are reletively harmless to children and pets....after drying) He told me $250.00 up front for the first time (It goes by square footage of your house) and $40.00 every month April through October for up keep. And I know the guy! I asked what the difference was between the stuff he uses and the stuff you get at Fleet Farm. He said absolutely NOTHING! Just that HE does it for you.
Well guess what. I buy Home Defence from Fleet Farm for less than $12.00 and it lasts 2 years. This year I only had to spray once. They recommend you spray once a month.
Well-I don't have the spider problem and like I said this spring and summer up to about 3 weeks ago, I had 3 skeeters a night....that's it! Now I have about 10. Must need to sprat again.
But I'd still help with your rat problem if you where closer. Just think of them as a squirrel without the fuzzy tail. That's all they really are.
Quote:
Oh FM you are SOOO funny! I love the squirrel/rat comment! :la So do you know for a fact that those fuzzy wolf spiders bite? I love to watch them hunt flies in my bathroom. They are so fast! I thought they called them that because they were fuzzy and hunted...guess I will have to do some research. We dont ever have too many of them--I think they live in the closet in there. We do have tose ones that go on the ceiling that have the super long legs. We call them Ghost spiders--I think that is hwere the cob webs come from..then there are the "mushroom butt" spiders on the porch. They are pretty cool looking too. I guess I kinda like spiders!
Our youngest cat caught a little mouse in the house yesterday...this is the second one in a few weeks. They must be coming in for the SSHHHHH (winter) She had a ball with it and then it was gone...not sure where.
The new boys and girl are doing OK this morning...man nothing like a new girl around to mess up dynamics though! I am keeping her penned for her own safety! Nice breeze coming in the window...must be a canning day!
Oh and DrH--any time you want to bring down some cukes I am there for ya! LOL! Checked my plants yesterday and there are some minuscule cukes...on the vine--about 4! Guess I get to wait a while yet!
More pear jam ready to go so I better get on it! Have a great day all! Terri O
