Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good evening all, I was gone all day.. most of all day..

I found out that the 9.00 series engine will work on the tiller.. A call to Troy Bilt was all that took.. apparently you divide foot pounds by 175 to get HP.. or something like that..

then I went looking for a metric bolt.. I thought I found 2 of them at Menard's but when I tried them in the motor at Fleet, they did not work either..

so far I have tried 8mm-1.00 and 8mm-1.25 apparently there is another 8mm-something out there.. tomorrow I have three more places to try for the correct bolt..

The appt. was with the small engine guy.. I decided against fixing the wrecked engine for now..

I am bringing two electric griddles to make pancakes on.. they work real well for bacon, sausage, steak, eggs. etc.. prolly hamburgers, too .

I could bring some americauas, How many should I bring? I think I have about 30 of them.. I also have about 40 guinea keets.

I thought I was finished hatching.. then this morning Marlene called me and said she was cutting some long grass and found a nest.. about 18 eggs.. doesn't know how old they are.. so we will just put a (?) on them and stick them into the bator..

gotta go chase the guineas in for the night..

Anyone going to the bash that is going to be heading through the Milwaukee area or going from a little North of there? Jim--did that Muscovy turn out to be a gal? If so...if anyone is going from around here...mind hauling a Muscovy back from the bash for me? Pretty please??

I'm jealous of you all who are going, but I'm also really looking forward to my daughter's Girl Scout camping here, so....it's a toss up.

My boyfriend is feeling MUCH better, thanks all for your concern. It's all muscle soreness left over from being sick. He overdid himself a bit painting the picnic table this afternoon, but he's definitely on the mend!

Evening everyone!!

Been a while since I posted. Been real busy. Talk about car/truck problems. Our trucks antilock breaks were going bad and it is at the neighbors tonight getting fixed. He owns the Car Quest in town and when my husband pulled up and he heard it he knew what the problem was right away-at least I hope he knows. It was getting real bad. When we brake it would kick in the antilock brakes and made a bunch of noise and at times hesitated to even stop. Made you scared as hellO !!!! Will cost about $500 so wouldn't it be nice if that wasn't the problem and it cost half that ?????

Then to top it off my car brakes started scraping when I stop and turn to the left??????? So when he is done with that I'll have to bring the car over !!!!! Then to top all of that off, we have to borrow a trailer and haul our tractor to Antigo to get rebuilt !!!!! Needs clutch, brakes and an overhaul !!!!!

So I should just roll all of these into the lake !!!!!!!

Farrier came last thursday, that was fun doing 6 horses and 3 donkeys !!!! Plus set us back a nice hunk of change when you add it all up !!!

I also had a few loses this week. First my best lavender silkie with nice vaulted skull got smothered by the others or ??????
Then DH (Chuck) found my favorite rooster dead in the nest box where he roosted !!! Colonel was his name. He was one of the first chicks I hatched last year. He was an EEr. Then I lost a new hen I aquired a few weeks ago. Don't really know why, she did have some diahrea on her butt but other then that ?????? Poor Colonel was the low man on the totem pole then when I brought the new hens home he took two of them under his wing, then he dies and now one of the hens....... At least he died happy. It was so cute. He lived in a coop with his brother (main roo) and his 5 sisters. When DH would open up the coop Colonel would run out and beat DH to the coop with the new hens that were housed with a Blue Ameruacana roo (another low man roo). And when he opened the hens coop Colonel would greet his own hens and hang with them all day. So I know how you all feel about loosing your chicks, hens, roos, etc...... It sure is sad

Jim, sorry to hear you lost high 5 but in the end it is best which I'm sure you already know. He sure was a fighter hey? My guineas aren't hatching as well as I would like either. Some make it to lock down and then don't hatch. Several others are clear. ??????? I told the neighbors I would hatch them some more but things aren't going as well as I had hoped and I don't want to give up the ones I bought from Jim cause I want to add them to my breeding flock for next year to add new blood. Plus I'm already attached to them.

The neighbor I gave some of my guinea chicks to had one that developed wry neck or some call it seahorse neck. So I have it home here in an aquarium to see if it improves. Sometimes it holds his head at an angle and other times it is just about doing summer saults ???? Anyone know how to treat this? I know in silkies they think it is head trauma that causes it. Not sure if the same thing happens in other chicks. ???? So needless to say it will stay here even if it improves !!!!

Anyway, went to the farmers market in Rhinelander on Saturday and got a good deal on strawberry plants. There were 4-5 plants in a pot and I got 10 pots for $15.00. Also got 2 small echinacia plants for $1.50 each and 2 small ruhbarb plants.

Oh and a woman was selling white spruce and balsam seedlings 6 in a pack for $1.00. Got 6 packs for $5.00. Didn't really want the balsam's but they were bunched in with the white spruce.

Now don't know where I"m goint to put them but ????

Still planning on making it to the bash unless of course the truck and car have more serious issues then expected. DH unemployment ran out two weeks ago so we are starting to really feel that !!!!

Especially when I go to the feed store which I have to go to tomorrow....... AGAIN !!!!

I can't wait to meet all of you !!! Sorry some of you aren't going to be able to make it !!

Wondering if a big slow cooker of baked beans will be enough ????? We will just be coming up for Saturday. Have way to many animals to find a responsible sitter for !!!! Plus we don't have a camper....... The only campers we have are being used for chicken coops........Seriously !!!
lau.gif
We overflowed the nice chicken coop that DH built for our first laying hens, or should I say his laying hens. Then one thing led to another and now they are mostly mine !!!!

Sounds like the Tshirts are going to be awesome. At least I won't have to worry about what to wear !!! At least once I get there on Saturday!!

I was going to take a bunch of pictures and have them printed but I can't find my camera !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I saw it someplace but who knows where ...............

We still have to go and get hay for the horses but with the rain and the truck problem ................ Need I say more..... if it ain't one thing it's a couple dozen of another !!!

Well, gotta go help hubby put bricks under the new brooder he built for me, smack in the middle of the living room !!!!! Glad it was his idea and not mine !!!

We are treating one of our blue copper Marans chick who has wry neck- we are giving her Poly-Vol-Sol vitamins without iron(found in the infant isle at like Wal-Mart). I was told it is a vitamin deficancy(sp), ours has shown a little improvement so we are still waiting. Maybe MLH would have a better idea on this.

Well got the grand tour -part deux at TO's.. I brought her 9 chickens, 2 ducks, a hamster for the day care for one of her DD's, mini snake for HER(TO), and the rabbit for her or DD to foster.
I told her she was not obligated to keep them, .

I am putting this out there for the WANT list.

If some one has a bantam cochin rooster, pls bring him to the Bash, I have already told TO that she needs to bring one down... Any color PLS!!
Thanks
Carol

Any Cheeseheads in Northern WI want some purebred araucanas?

I may soon have too many purebred araucanas than I have room for! I just hatched fourteen, seven of which were tufted, which made me go
ep.gif

But I kinda thought I would have a bad hatch since I had to discard quite a few eggs during incubation, so I bought more hatching eggs that would arrive so they'd be set right after this hatch! So now I have 24 more purebred araucana eggs in the incubator due to hatch

on July 9th!
