Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well I turned on the t.v. cuz the rain started to come in, in dribs and drabs, but its dark and windy...tornado warning in the Palmyra and Eagle area, so close to where
Hurley lives.. I texted her!!

I was talking to TO about Honey Mead.. so if anyone knows where to get some, perhaps they can bring some for her.
Its also called Honey Wine.. but doesn't taste like wine at all.
Here is a link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mead
And NO wheat or oats are involved so she can imbibe as well!!!

SO he will be hanging with two bantam cochin hens...

I can't wait to get some. I bet Frizzler wants some too. Her "Molly" was the reason I like them so much.

Wow, did we ever have a wicked storm blow thru here around 3. But at least it moved through quickly. Cind, did you get socked by you? Sounds like almost everyone has had their fair share of nasty weather today. Here's to hoping that tomorrow will be better.

Shanti & FT, thank you for your input on the egg situation. It is always very much appreciated.

At first I was thinking they were in a moult, but it has been going on for a while now, and most of them are pretty well feathered out by now. I just don't know what it could be, but I too have been hearing & reading an awful lot of other people having the same problem lately. And not just from around here. Awfully strange. And horses too? That is just too weird. I sure wish I knew what the causes were.
And yes, I finally got to sleep ok, Shanti. You're so sweet for your well wishes. Thank you! Great job at the farmer's market. I'm jealous of all your great finds. I love white spruce trees. We ordered some from the DNR years ago, and they are some very nice trees. Pretty fast growing for a spruce, and really tolerant of most soils, not to mention just a handsome looking tree. The birds love them, especially in the wintertime. And I think a big slow cooker of beans will be plenty for the bash. Just don't stand too close to that fire afterwards.
DrH, that story about Buster was priceless.

And your noodles sound yummy!
All this talk about all the delish food that will be at the bash is making me hungry!

I sure hope everyone is weathering these crazy storms today. There has been some pretty strong ones moving through lately. And I am really sorry to hear about all the critter losses & vehicle troubles that everyone has been having lately.

Hope everyone has a wonderful evening!

good early evening,, I just beat the rain.. I got the motor mounted on the tiller and oiled it and gassed it up.. I pulled on it a few times but it would not start.. then the rain started so I ran to the house..

the quail are hatching like popcorn.. there are more than a dozen already..

I set 36 eggs..

Soggy Evening All... thanks for posting the link again raim. Should be plenty of things for folks and kids to do. Yep beverage of choice is the easiest. We always called it byo (bring your own). Gonna make the second batch of jerky tomorrow. I'll need to cut the grass at camp before Friday afternoon. Gonna try Thursday if it's not raining.
cc, I've never had any hybreds so I can't say first hand. I've heard they don't have laying longevity though and 2 years sounds about right. Time to look into some heritage breeds, eh!
Hope you get the tiller going Jim...glad to hear the motor fit.
When it comes to the sound of a guinea, they yack, don't they.....yack, ack, ack ack ack!

My birds were kept in lock down today to. The hard rains that made me do so, sure created alot of mad hens today. Boy did I get scolded today, and by the way this is how we empty the feeders when we can't free range for food!

TO, your cake is out of the oven.................. I used GF flour so you can have some! I'll give you the rest of the box on Saturday......

For the rest of dessert I will be bringing a cherry pie (made in a 9x13 pan) using Dr.H's lard crust recipe and the cherries FM and I picked last summer!

I'll try to get 2 batches of soap made tomorrow so it is ready to cut before Saturday........... anybody have any particular scents they would like???? I was tossing the idea around of making a Rose scented batch and a Citrus scented batch..... just be aware you will not be able to use the soap for about 4 weeks and to keep it in a closet in the paper bag during that time......

Ok, off to sit for a few while the pie is cooking....

Later!

FM-Her's are the reason I fell in love with the color too. Soon, very soon we will have some. I watched that little blue roo today and he is just plain clumsy on the girls, hopefully he grows some balance as he ages.

Wcc- I might have a blk girl I can part with. They were hatched last August. Want me to take a picture? I hopefully will have chicks hatch by the bash, I could bring you some of those too. All my chickens are cochins, except for my one polish and Murry is a silkie cochin cross. Otherwise they are different colors, but all cochin. Let me know.

BL4- Your making my sweet tooth go. I really want cherrie pie now!

Rained here, but only for a couple minutes. Another storm coming. Hopefully will just be rain and nothing else. Hope everyone did ok with the one this afternoon. Well off to do chores before the rain falls. Later

So Shanti, did you ever crack open that monster egg yet? Was it a double after all? It almost looked like a triple by the size of it!
lau.gif

You were referring to the Ren Faire in Bristol, correct? My sister & I love it too! If you're ever in town while it is open, we should go sometime. It is open Saturdays & Sundays from July 4th til Labor Day. It'll be fun! Let me know sometime.

Celtic, it was only a double but served up with some asparagus and cheese, it made quite the meal. Wonder if birds ever lay triplets?

Yup, I was talking about the Bristol Faire. We'll chat about it this weekend, I hope! That would be a fun day. Maybe we can get some more to join us.

Dang, all this talk tonight about food is making me hungry. I made my shopping list earlier, and wonder if my raspberry cheesecake will hold it's own with that cherry pie?????

The storm just hit us a few minutes ago. I'm thinking my Border Collie wants to hide in the shower. Poor guy.

Have a good night everyone.

"only a double but served up with some asparagus and cheese, it made quite the meal."
Oh, that sounds yummy, Shanti! So does the cherry cheesecake and the pie!

Not so much the toasty horsey, but it was a good laugh, nevertheless.
lau.gif

That would be a good time if some people could join us. Maybe some of the "southerners" who can't make it to the bash.
That raspberry cheesecake is sounding pretty darn good right about now!
We got wholloped (sp? Is that even a word?) with a quick storm that came through AGAIN right when I went to shoo the girls in around 7 down here. So thankful for the roof out there!
Sweet dreams, all!
