Good morning once again! I really love my new and improved schedule...these 2 weekdays off in a row are quite nice for getting stuff accomplished. Funny we had the discussion about pie crust a while ago...maybe 10,000 posts back. I am sure you can find all the recipes if you look Elaine and FT!
(yeah right...could you imagine?)
I can tell you my foolproof one...like Cind I have a bunch of ribbons for it and it is easy as, well--pie! Oh man I am in rare form this AM! What you do is get out your food processor. Put in 2 cups of flour (YUK) a little salt and 2/3C lard. Pulse it up until it looks mixed and crumbly. Then add 4T COLD water and pulse x6 or so (it will be starting to get into a ball-if it doesnt, add another 1/2t of water and pulse again. You can go up to 5T) Then turn the machine on and let it run until the ball forms and goes round and round a few times. Take it out and divide in 2. Wrap tightly in plastic and refrigerate until you have the insides made. When you go to roll just make one piece into a disk and put it on your floured board, flip it once, dust the rolling pin with flour and it should roll right out for ya! (two pushes, two pulls, rotate and do 1 and 1...it's DONE) Fold in half and lift it into the pie plate. When I bake I wipe the top crust with milk and then cinn/sugar or plain sugar, shield the edges with foil or a pie crust shield (best invention ever) For the first 45 mins of baking.
Wow, that took a long time to explain...longer to type it that to make it for sure! Now I am getting hungry for pie...I probably would be too tempted though...I do have some of that GF flour left from the bash though...maybe I will try it and see if it works. THe only problem is that my pastry cloth is so saturated with regular flour that I need to get a new one but cant find one that fits my board....since I am "the pie person" for T-day I think I better find one soon!
Hey Jim--I have 3 or 4 quail cheaping away in my bator too...they arent quite ready to come out yet. I am thinking of taking the bigger ones down to the basement brooder..there is no way all the rest of the hatch is gonna fit in that 20L!
If the Southern bash is at Aztalan I am definitely coming
and it probably wont be too cold at all FT! We are having wonderful 70-75 degree days right now....I just love fall! I am wondering if we made the day Oct 2 if more people could come? Just a thought...
Well, I got my stale popcorn(from last night) and half a cup of coffee down...I am thinking about taking a ride to F&F today to pick up a few more waterers and prolly some other stuff
Maybe the canning jars will be on clearance? I sure wish there was a way to preserve zucchini so that you could have it in the winter too. It turns out pretty good when you put it with tomatos; I wonder if I could just can it in thin tomato juice or stock? Anyone ever try? (Jim dont answer that, I know you dont like it any way ya make it!)
I sure dont envy you guys with kids in HS and all those games, practices, concerts and dances! It makes me tired just to type it! When we had 3 kids in 3 schools for a few years it seemed like we were running ALL the time! (because we WERE!) Every night there was something going on...DH made me laugh yesterday when he called to "make sure we didnt have anything going on" on Wednesday because he needs to go back to Joplin to finish up. I said just the usual...a nice quiet dinner at home. I guess habits die hard hey?
My pears arent getting peeled sitting here and neither are the apples...sigh...better get to it! Have a fantastic day everyone! Terri O
