Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I needed that chuckle from everyone this morning...
After doing the chicken stalls... my carpal tunnel kicked in, into overdrive.. Last night was the first night in 3 days that I slept even vaguely well...after drugging myself into a stupor...
My hands are swollen, can't bend my fingers hardly, shoulder is hurting from sleeping on it.
And I still have to get out to the barn to do chores.

Sooo I will have a young pair of Seramas to bring to the southern bash if anyone is interested, and a frizzle rooster, bantam cochin. Also perhaps a purebred blue cuckoo maran chick.

Let me know.

hi all, I am cooking down a batch of catsup.. I did it a lttle differently this time.. ran the tomtoes through the food processer, then ran the juiced up tomatoes through the funnel shaped thingy to squeeze out the seeds.. this system was a lot faster than coring the tomatoes like I did last time..,, however there seems to be more juice in the final result.. but that might be a plus on the flavor.. and I think this catsup will not be as coarse as the first batch was..

Oh yeah, I also am cooking the juice in the widest pot I could find.. More surface area for evaporation..

Our potato crop is looking like a flop.. the plants were awesome, but the potatoes are generally small.. Lots of tiny ones.. I am hoping as we get down the row , into the more fertile end of the garden, things will improve..

Next year I am not going to use the west end of the garden.. the topsoil there is only about 6 inches deep.. lots of clay under that.. I will use that area for compost piles.. and maybe plant cukes and squash on the compost piles..

gardening is a constant game of "next year" isn't it ??

Carol, we know what you mean about hurting.. Annie and I were both hurtin for certain last night after doing only 20 chickens.. She looked at me and said, how did we do a hundred a day back when ?? one weekend we did 200,,,, 100 each day..

Next time we are going to get rid of all the freeloaders.. stewing hens and nonlayers..

TO.. 17 + 18 = 35 - 31 = 4

17,,, (eggs set on sept 17)..
plus 18,...( number of days they have to incubate). = 35...
subtract the number of days in the current month from 35,,
35 minus 31 = 4 which is the due date, Oct 4.

quickest way I know of to figure out the due date in my head..

walk yourself through it once or twice and it becomes second nature..

eta:
I just finished making 4 pints of catsup.. had a hotdog,, very tasty..

going to revise the recipe a bit..

I decided against adding nutmeg.. Annie said it would taste like pumkin pie.. I hate pumkin pie..

everybody must be outside enjoying the sun..

eta: sun went down long ago.. now where is everybody?

I feel for ya there. I usually had flippers for hands after the weekend shift when I worked at Press Co. And shoulder Yow! Love to see those seramas. Where did you get them? I cant stay on here long and cant catch up. As usual I have procrastinated for the last minute and now I need to get out there and prepare for winter. Hopefully after I do a good days work I will reward myself with reading the cheese thread.

I really love reading what everyone is up too. Thank you all for sharing your lives with us!

I will share what Ive been up to in a few but need to run to work for a minute first.

Here are the new seramas, they came from an middle aged gent and his wife, they are seriously into pigeons too.. I was talking to TO about them..
They got into seramas, and then out again due to impending knee surgery.

Beautiful fall evening all...

I got the oil changed on the ranger today. My friend John called today and I went and picked up a truck load of wood shavings that filled up both coops! And the best part of that , it was free! And me suzie likes that better.

We were going to dig another row of potatoes but by the time i got back home it was almost 2 :30. And lo and behold here was the infestation of box elder bugs... asian beetles.. and what we call wood guys.

Due to the nice weather we (me) are going to pull the cranberry beans and hang them to dry. There should be plenty of beans this winter for soup! YUM!

Oh by the way ...son called this morning...buck weighed in at 192! He's always been lucky like that. I'm really getting the itch to go. Sucks having crap happen.

O by the way this is suze... anyone have grass to cut yet????? Someone wanna cut mine?

well I guess that's about it for now.

Talk later, Brent and Suze

Just popped in to say goodnight! Thanks for hooking me up with that gal from Stoughton Carol...we are trying to get together on Wednesday so she can see my birds and hopefully BUY some! I know she wants my Royal Palm pretty bad. How much are Royal Palm Toms going for? I wasnt even considering selling him but I probably dont need 4 toms for my ONE hen! SHe cant seem to hatch anything anyhow...turkey breeder I am not!
So I got to thinking about a rat in that coop and that is just about the only thing that could get in there...you may be right Jim. I did put out some poison but the small rat sized trap I seem to have lent out and of course I never got it back...man, I hate that! I really need to write down stuff like that or get my name on it...at least I would know where to start looking then.

Got 2 blue eggs today in a coop with 1 blue egg layer....maybe I missed it yesterday? It was weird. Another weird thing is that those Blue Ameracaunas I got from you Jim are getting feathers on their legs! I dod a double take when I was watering them because I thought I saw something...yup, I did; all 4 roos are getting feathered legs! DOesnt say anything in the standard about that being a disqualification for Ameracaunas but it is in Auracanas. SO there has to be a featherlegged breed in the background somewhere...H&R, you are up on their genetics, care to shed some light on this situation?

So I better go and get those birds in, and horses and....whatever else I can find to lock in! Sweet dreams everyone...I am looking forward to having a very productive day tomorrow...dont know why but I sure hope it happens that way! Nighties! Terri O

ETA: JIm that is a crazy way to figure...I just look at the calendar and count--then write "DUE DATE" works every time!

Also...Brent you are driving now? Cool!

SIS !!! thank god,,, I thought the world had come to the end and I was the only one left..

I bought a couple of bales of shavings from F&F.. I have a bunch of lumber to plane, then I will have some shavings on hand when I need it..

I was going to cut the grass one more time, but It is too long and now a lot of it is lodged.. I wil just wait until next year..

are you supposed to be digging and lifting?? that is not good for eye strain..

I do eye drops twice a day.. will keep doing it until I die or go blind, whichever comes first..

Nice sized deer your boy got.. My brother said that if he got another small one, he will drop it off here.. He has his eer processed at a butcher shop, and it is expensive.. So he figures unless he is going to keep the meat, he would rather give the deer to me to process.. can you believe $80.oo per deer ? Might just as well buy a side of beef.. His boys would help him cut the deer up, but his wife won't let them .. she is a bit unreasonable about some (a lot) of things.. bi-polar...

I told brother about a thing I saw on TV on how to clean cat-fish..
He said, good, now if I catch some, you (I) can clean them.. I told him , OH no,, this is for YOUR information..LOL

.........jiminwisc.......

TerryO. I am retired.. I no longer wear a watch nor do I have a calander in my room.. Yesterday I just happened to come across the watch I used to wear and the battery is dead.. LOL

I just butchered 7 americauna roosters yesterday and they were all clean legged.. must be something you are feeding yours. LOL
BTW, they didn't dress out too heavy.. 2 to 2 1/2 pounds..
hardly worth butchering..

I have about 6 too many RP Toms.. I just listed them in the freeads for $15.oo/each.. You should get at least $35.oo for one if someone really wants it.. mine are all young ones from this year..
