Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I've got a broody cochin and 3 eggs in the incubator due to hatch on Wednesday. I'm going to be out of town Mon - Wed so this is perfect. I'll pop the eggs under her and she can take care of them.
Sad news here. My overly friendly lavender orpington, Crystal is missing. She got taken by a predator I'm sure. I know that's a risk I take by letting them free range, but why is it always my favorites that they snatch?

I have not been to the chicken drop. Honestly, I find it kind of appalling! Lol. I guess they used to have one in New Richmond too. Someone was just telling me about it the other day.

I have a couple orders for call duck hatching eggs, once those are filled does anyone else want any shipped to them? They're not divided into breeding pens yet. I have a gray drake, 2 gray hens, 2 blue fawn hens, 1 pastel hen and a black bibbed drake. Most of the ducklings will be gray or blue fawn. The black bibbed drake doesn't get much action.

good morning all>, I liked the old way when the time someone posted was given instead of how long ago it was.. and as long as I am on a roll, I liked the old way where you could log in right to the last post you read instead of having to remember what page it was and have to search for the page and then the last post.. just sayin'.. I am not grumpy, CC..

Nora has settled down quite a bit.. she is just about over her ordeal.. In fact she went right to the lean to last night without a struggle..

I am thinking about starting to sort chicken breeds.. I already have caught 3 barred hens that wouldn't go into the coop and stuck them in with the barred rooster.. I am getting occasional eggs from them despite it being not heated and basically they are outside.. I have at least 3 more BR hens in the coop.. maybe I will join the Foolish hatch.. by then I should be able to collect a few dozen eggs from 6 hens..eh?

I surprised myself yesterday.. I mentioned on here that I thought I had about 6 turkey hens? I counted 9.. No wonder Tommy is strutting all the time..

The 4 baby geese are starting to get feathers.. they look HUGE in the short pen.. I don't have a larger place to put them just yet.... they go through 2 gallons of water per day, and most of that is on the floor.. I am thinking of transferring them to the quail pen, but it is not so warm in that coop. I will give it some more thought.. like Bill. my old neighbor used to say, "I'll have to ponder it"

One of Mom's grandsons brought his guitar out here yesterday and played and sang a few songs.. He and a few friends have a small band.. I never heard him play before,, It was quite nice.. he did a few Johnny Cash tunes, that I am partial to. It did not seem to be getting Mom's attention, but at the supper table, she told Annie that a couple of the kids came "yesterday" and played their instruments for her..

I can't distinguish if any of the goslings are Sebastopol yet. I am thinking of selling the two pairs of adults though.. If I can get a decent price for them..

ME ME ME ME, I heard they were difficult to hatch.. I have been trying to get some for a long time.. I just want to see if I can hatch some.. I prolly won't keep any that hatch so they will be available to cheeseheads first..

BBP: Sorry about Crystal-Hoping she turns up!!!! How is the other L.O.(Lila?) the one that never went in the coop at night? And how about the one that was caught on the fence?
And I was wondering about the chicken drop as well ( I think you mentioned the one in NR now that I think about it) Who's chickens are they dropping? And where are they dropping them from? So you get a hen/roo-then have to quarintine for a month and try to introduce into your flock? Plus they are probably older chickens to boot. So 1) totally hard on the chickens 2) people will end up with them that potentially know nothing about chickens and are unprepared or else end up with an older chicken Hmmmmm All I can say is this is definately not Cali-PETA would have been there lol (And no Im not a huge PETA fan-just was sayin')

Whoa girl, relax, take a breath.. I have never been there, but I can't believe it is all in-humane.. I don't believe Les Desmond is dropping them from a helicopter and saying, "Honest, I thought they could fly.."

back,,dang I thought I killed the board with my early morning post,,,,whew

OK,,,dang are these chickens alive that they drop?? Geeze I can see PITA being allllll over that event...(not a PITA fan either,,,but agree,,,,"just sayin")

on the other hand, I would guess dropping frozen chickens would create some liability issues,,,heh heh

and Jim,,,,I never realized when we talked on the phone you were a "Me, Me, Me" person

Mornin' Dan, Normally I am not, but I have been trying for s long time to get some eggs like that.. it is the challenge of it that I am after.. If I have to act goofy to get some, I am willing to do it.

they must be live chickens, as I understand it, people have to chase them and catch them..

You know what PITA is the ackronym for, eh?. that is how I feel about them..
