Thanks for the warm puppy well wishes, folks! Yes, I had planned to take her to the Sun Prairie place to have her fixed but wanted to take her to our vet for the once over & introductions. We do have a plastic cone/neck thingy, thanks, Carol! (Terri, the $29 is for cats....) I'll probably give her a couple of weeks to settle in before we have the surgery done. Yeah, those ears are adorable aren't they? ha She's really sweet and very smart. I've been wanting a 2nd dog since our lab died 3 years ago but I had to work on DH/OM to agree to two dogs again -- don't know why, I do all the work! ha
Re: rehoming critters - I had to rehome a guinea pig and a miniature possum and thankfully found wonderful homes for them. I would have been miserable had I had to keep them and they're better off at their new homes....
Speaking of new homes, I just read that the Dane Co. Humane Society just built a $3,000 coop for the chickens they get?? ????????????????? WTH???????????????????? Stuff like that makes me crazy! What is it the Taj Mahal of chicken coops????............Arrrgh, don't get me started! I admire & support humane societies in general but the one here aggravates the hell out of me. I think they'd place a whole lot more animals if they had more reasonable prices and it bugs me to no end that they raised a ton of $ for a new building and then built a fancy/smancy one with cathedrel ceilings - well that's a good use of $ to heat & air condition! $$ would be better spent on animals in my opinion. I'm sure they'll charge a ridiculous amount for chickens!! (When I find out what that is, I'll post.) I think the article said they currently have 20 plus hens and a couple of roosters if anyone locally wants to check it out... For those of you in this area, I don't know if you know that the Dane Co. Humane Society now runs a little pet thrift store inside in one of their main hallways? They have a ton of collars, leashes, sometime dog beds, usually several bird cages, etc. It's not priced, it's by $ donation based on what you can afford to pay - honor system.... I stop there once a month or so -- but be forwarned they have really funky hours, so check their website to make sure they're open before you go. Can't tell you how many times I've stopped by and they've been closed!
Well I'm certainly opinionated today aren't I?!
TO, that's hysterical that you named hens for Carol and I BOTH!!!!!!
Pretty peacock, Jim!
New baby chickie pictures are killing me!! Thanks for sharing (seriously -- I enjoy them immensely!)
As a chicken and duck enabler, I want to remind everyone who's looking for baby birds to check with their local Farm & Fleet to see if you can order birds through them this year. I know the one in Verona (which is a new larger center) did last year, not sure if the remodeled one in Madison will or not... But if you have a Farm & Fleet by you and are interested in birds might be worth looking into. Their prices last year seemed very reasonable, too...
Alright, gotta fly - gotta find something to cook/eat and I'm not in the mood to do either. Might just be a "fend for yourselves" night for my guys and a bowl of cereal for me... Oh yeah, looks like more snows coming Tues. & Wed. -- dang! Two quick questions, has anyone started pruning their fruit trees or grapes yet? Dormant oil?? I tend to miss the boat on these things and I'm hoping to do it better this year....
Have a good evening.
Elaine
