Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning everyone
frow.gif
- kind of gray looking outside- will be interesting to see if we get any of the rain/snow/sleet mix as they are calling for today- DH is not ready for it to stay- have to switch over equipment yet and no spare time to work on it.

Talked with my mom this am- the ER doctor figures that my dad has an infection in his ankle- not sure how it happened but maybe he got poke by something when he was outside doing some yard work

. My dad had chills and was running a fever and my mom thought she was see signs indicating a stroke so she finally must of convince him to let her call the ambulance and take him in. So it was after midnight when he got there and they started him on antibotics and did the CT scan and probably ran some others just to make sure. He will be there for a couple of days at this point. My dad fell about 3.5 years ago on ice, hitting his head very hard(they had to drain fluid off his brain) and messed himself up pretty good then so they probably have to take that into consideration as well. My mom said that he was starting to look better when she left him around 4 am this morning- she was going to take a nap and head in a bit later today since she knew he was stable. My dad just turned 82 at the end of Oct. and my mom is in her late 70's. It is always hard to wait and hear what is going on but sometimes easier not to crowd the waiting area especially for the grandkids. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers, you guys are great

Back to the paperwork pile to keep my mind moving.

Nothing sticking here in Madison yet but it is sure coming down. Have to run errands at lunch and I am sure everyone forgot how to drive wtih this weather again!

H&R... hope your dad is doing better. Infections are tough. Thinking of him!
MLH... Packer is a Pembroke Corgi.. so no tail... He slept from 10 until 5 so doing pretty good and he is so quiet. one little whine, then another 5 minutes later, but boy did he go when we got outside. And he does not whine at the door, just stands there and looks at you... Training me as much as him! Hard to tell though when he is peeing.. he is so low to the ground, and a boy, he just stops and goes... I have to look to see and probably look crazy, but rewarding him every time he is outside and goes potty.

My duccle were not liking the cold so Carol moved 2 of them to her barn for the winter and sent one of my silkies back home. So we are roosterless for a while. Have to see how everyone does, our old rooster ( who did not like my kids) really did a good job keeping the peace in there.
But after worming and some molting(still have one in bad molt) production is coming back up. Getting 4-6 eggs a day which is better than when I was just getting 1. Have a dozen girls out there, with just a few that are close to POL.

HensNroos glad to hear your dad is doing better, thoughts and prayers sent your way for sure. Parents are priceless

Good news on the horse situation up here..... well until I call the woman who is boarding Cody the rescue back. She left me a message and said she had an update and it was good news !!!

Part of me wants to hear that the owners gave him up and that someone at the barn wants him and another part of me (the money tender) wants to jump up and down and hop in the truck and go get him. I'm paying $1.25 more per bale of hay (I know that's a lot better then most but still !!! my money tree is getting picked bare)

Wait till I tell DH about him. I tried calling but got a fax machine ?????

I'm sure they surrendered him because of winter. If he comes here he will be on a weight builder suppement right away. I saw him about a month ago and he hadn't gained as much weight as I would have thought he would have.
This kitten is clining to me like velcro !!!! LOL She already is feeling better. Must be a warm house and bed to sleep in.

Will catch up and update later. Gotta get dressed, find a winter coat and go vote. Still snowing up here !!!! Old man Winter has arrived !!!

pink banana squash yummmmm!

I have extra seeds if you would like to give em a go for next year.
Pictures as promised
See we have so many critters around here they stack themselves.........hehehehe

I forgot to tell you all how special my goats are. They've started laying blue eggs! Imagine my surprise when I found 7 blue eggs in their enclosure. I was like "Wow! I can get milk AND eggs from them? All I need to do is get them to bake bread and I got a meal!!!"
Yr hilarious Big Fam!

Our original plan with the chicken tractor was to "park it" on concrete, out of the wind, snuggled in a corner next to our home. But now that it's so cold, the concrete floor sounds horrible for chickie feeties. Cold, even with lots of hay, not to mention hard landings. I'm thinking about using some newly acquired pallets to make a sort of raised floor with plywood over the top or something. Then lots of hay. We'll see how this little experiment turns out. Anyone see any red flags with this plan? ..............then i could pump warm air through the pallets so the chickies have a heated floor! Just like the romans!

Or do you coop engineer types think plywood on the concrete with the tractor parked over it would do just as well?

Thanks for your feedback!!!!!!!!!

BL4~seen that pic on FB and it's a hoot!

Been snowing here since a little past daylight (now 3 pm). Accumulated for awhile, melted, now it's sticking again. Hubby thrilled to have tracking snow. Think I mentioned my goofy ladies have all decided they like the "impromptu" nest one of them made under the ramp up to the roost best and are laying in it instead so this morning I took 3 wood eggs I painted brown and dropped them in the 3 "normal" nest boxes. It was funny to watch them run up and stare at them then they all decided (incl. the chick) that they had to jump in and try them on for size, silly chooks. Going out in a little while to see if anybody took the hint.

any coughing, sneezing etc going on?

good PM, just got back from Madison Dane county airport.. Yep, it is a Maremma male puppy.. 14 weeks old.. TerriO, how did you know ? Kim tell you ? I did not want to say anything until he was home here is case something went awry..

I do not have his house finished, yet.. It will take some growing for him to fit into it.. He is only 14 weeks old.. just a puppy.. His name WAS Bobby Joe.. both of my DD's said that sounded gay.. I don't know what to call him, yet..

Dora accepted him immediately.. He growled at her, but it was a scared growl.. He is roaming upstairs and getting used to the house.. I imagine there will be a puddle to clean up soon.. I hope he has the decency to not use the carpeted area..

Annie headed to town for some puppy food and a collar.. she was expecting a larger dog.. Just wait Annie,, just wait....

I think a nap is in order for me.. My brother did all the driving.. foggy all the way..
