Won't come to bed tonight

I'm sure your issue is being caused by the newbies . .but I've also noticed that they go through a "teenager" stage where they just don't want to do things that they previously had been used to doing. :thone of mine suddenly refused to go inside tonight and I ended up having to corner it and pick it up and put it in. :he
Same thing happened to me last week. But, being persistent pays off and they know you mean business. I don't have a pond to compete with though.

So, just thought of something, maybe you could herd them in in stages. Go out earlier and herd them to their run and then lock them up so that it is easier to herd them to bed later on. That way if they are being ornery it is easier to deal with.
Mine get free range time and then are in their run when I put them to bed. I have had an episode where they all thought it was great fun to go the opposite direction and run around their pool area vs letting me put them to bed. I was persistent though and they went to bed. ;)

They don't have a run, they just free range all day and then get locked in the barn at night. Although we do have some old dog kennel panels not being used so that is an idea to think about, thanks!

Will they perhaps come to you if you offer them some of their favorite treats and then have them follow you to their night quarters? Hopefully the new duck will join your flock and learn to be kept safely too. I hope you have success.

The new duck I saw yesterday was still with my three this morning, so I guess we have 4 ducks now. So cute remembering how little ours used to be. I hate the thought of 5 little ones out there with no protection. I assume the other 4 have all been hiding in the brush and I hope they made it through the night too. If they start coming around I'll just herd them in with the others, give them some yummy treats ,and welcome them to a growing flock.

Love it! :highfive:
